Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

it was negative but only cheapie tests, will poas tomorrow for you coy lol

Yes, use a better test :test: I've found that the cheap ones don't detect hCG until it is much higher. Get a FRER!!! Oh, and I found my mid afternoon urine to be much more concentrated, I always got darker tests then  FX'd that this is if for you :dust:

Hi ladies,

Im going to poke my nose in here

I'm 36 TTC for 13 months now, and seemingly have unexplained fertility issues (although have not been tested for blocked tubes - that's next step). Currently I am seeing an FS and have been put on 25mg's of Fertomid (to try for 4 months) just to try and sort any potential hormone blips that there might be because everything else looks good!

Annnnd sadly our frist round didn't work (boo hiss! WHY NOT!! We BD'ed like rabbits!!) so am on CD6 now and on second bout... lets hope this works because I was crushed with disappointment when my AF came on Friday.

35 years of NEVER wanting kids, and now deciding to try. Blargh!! Who knew it's not as easy as just shtooping and WHAM it happens eh?

Hating this whole experience, everyone around me is pregnant or want to be in a competition with you to BE pregnant (WHAT?!) and this whole BD'ing thing on a clock is no damn fun!! "Honey I know your granny just died but I think I'm ovulating so roll over" :dohh:

Just need to rant a bit!

Kthanksbye and good luck ladies!! :winkwink:

Hey Snooklepoodle.. I'm another success story! I'm 40, single and wanted a baby, and I'm now almost 6 weeks
Trust in your fertility specialist, and get them to run the tests.
Things they should do:

1) hormone levels (usually cycle day 3) and an AMH
2) do a sperm :spermy: analysis on your DH/BF
3) tube test
4) ultrasound to check ovaries, and uterus for any abnormalities

I'm sure some of this has been done prior to them putting you on a medication. By the way what is that medication? I've never heard of it!

Once you have the results from the tests, your FS should be able to give you a good idea of what the issue is. Then you guys can decide how far you are willing to go. Hopefully you issues are not as  as mine and you can get pregnant without too much intervention!

hmm.. well hopefully it is implantation spotting, but if its not, make sure you tell your specialist about this. Several days of spotting before AF can point to a luteal phase defect (low progesterone).

Hello everyone! I have been lurking around here for a few days and thought I would sign up and introduce myself. Though I don't know if we can reveal our first names...

I am 36 and childless, so I am going to be TTC my first (most likely through IVF) hopefully in a couple of months. I have been married to my DH for about 5 years (only marriage for each of us). My DH was not too keen on the idea of children, but has had a change of heart and is pretty excited himself about the idea. I talked to my GYN. Unfortunately, I was severely anorexic for nearly 12 years and did some damage by not having AF for 10 years. I have been in recovery and doing well since 2006.

I am doing as much research as I can re: IVF to prepare myself for my FS appt next month.

I am looking forward to having everyone here for support as we all experience our journeys (albeit in different stages) together.

Thanks for reading!

Hey alicatt!

Congrats on your BFP!! Yay :happydance:

I have had all the tests done, hormones look great internal sonars etc show no abnormalities and aparently my "AMH was so great it's rarely seen like that in a woman of 36??" Bah, the info overwhelms me but from what I got from him, everything is in tip top condition, DH also no issues with his "boys" :winkwink: and yet we still battling on!

Fertomid is just the generic version of Clomid - and he put me on a half dosage (a measly 25mg) because there is nothing wrong, so he didnt want me to release loads of eggs as I am already ovulating normally, he just wanted to potentially sort any hormone issues there may be during ovulation. But if not preggers in 3 months time now, he'll check whether my tubes are blocked

So I'm hoping we don't even have to go that far! Going to try the SPEM method and using OPK's this month again (never worked for me before) So we'll see!

And then the looooooooooooooooong 2WW :coffee:

Have a great day ladies! GL with all your tests!

If anything it tests our sanity!

hi snooklepoodle I am surprised they haven't checked your tubes already, I was also diagnosed with unexplained infertility after ttc for 6 years and after my bloods came back as ovulating regular, they checked my tubes which were clear and dh swimmers were good so I was prescribed 50mg of clomid and I conceived on 1st cycle with them, this must have kick started my fertility as went onto conceive naturally after that.

I cant see how they can give u a diagnosis of unexplained infertility if not checked your tubes.

I have now been ttc again for 21/2 years and if I am not pg this month I will be starting tests again next week.

Ali my spotting seemed to have stopped but still bfn this morning, boobs still sore and felt nauseous this morning, going to get a first response this afternoon.

Ah goodluck, keep us all posted about your test! FX for you!

Well I think it was less a diagnosis of "Unexplained fertility issues" and more just me assuming that's what he meant when he said to me, everything looks great with blood and ovaries and with my DH's "boys" and then he said "so nothing appears wrong in the first "look around" however we are still not pregnant" :) so maybe I shouldn't just bandy terms like that around LOL!

But yes upon hindsight and being on these sights for a bit I was wondering why he didn't just check my tubes, although maybe he wanted to try the low dosage of clomid first before doing something invasive?

Because if I'm not mistaken checking your tubes is pretty invasive correct? Can anyone actually tell me the procedure they use, I know they inject dye, but have heard it is quite painful, so do they do it in office?

Checking tubes is pretty simple. It's a hysterosonogram. They use water/dye and shoot it into your uterus and then us a U/S to watch if your tubes are open. It only takes about 5 mins. I have had 3! LOL! My tube was initially blocked, but my second test the Dr was skillful and unblocked it! I would ask your FS to do it sooner than later! Also, after the tube test you are more fertile! It is like duct cleaning for your A/C, clear passages get rid of the cobwebs so to speak.
Do you have endometriosis? I have read recently that it can cause infertility as the hormones emitted from it inhibit fertilization.
Other things you can try:
* Diet.. if you have allergies to dairy or gluten (wheat) can cause infertility
* Endometriosis.. blockages and hormones can be the problem
* Chrimosomes.. have your and your DH tested
* Auto-immune.. hidden immune issues can hinder fertility
* Clotting factors.. hinder implantation and increase miscarriage potential

Most if these issues are rare, but could be the issue!

AFM - Aunt Flo came to visit at 2am last night. Hah! Clearly this means that I'm not preggo, but I was quite sure that I wasn't. HOWEVER...I'm still thrilled because this was a 29 day cycle for me!!! Yippeee!! I'm practically a normal woman again. I went from 3.5 years between cycles (thanks to distance running, but I wasn't TTC either), to 6 months, then 65 days, then 45 days, then 35 days last month and FINALLY 29! The magic number I was shooting for. Now...we won't have to wait so darn long to hit that crucial timing. ;-)

Sorry about AF, but you are right, it is good news that your cycles are getting more regular! FX'd they stay that way!

Good morning ladies!

Snooklepoodle- The HSG can be painful if your tubes are blocked but taking some ibuprofen beforehand is helpful I didn't know I could take it till after I had it done so I like to give ladies that tip. My tubes weren't blocked but it was still painful without meds. When I had my mock embryo transfer last year I took a painkiller and didnt have any pain.

Alin hope you get hold of a Frer and :test: soon!

Ali you will have a little sweet pea tomorrow :happydance:

Matin- where are you? How are you feeling in your 6th week? Symptoms?

Samsfan- We missed you. :hugs: Have you started taking the maca and other supplements?

Grey Eyes- Did you finish your assignment? Praying for your family. Hope you get good news soon!

BW- How did your Nt scan and other tests go?

Philomena- s for your sweet baby girl

Angel-we are thinking of you :hugs:

Hi Ladies!
Can I join you guys on here? I never realized how hard ttc was going to be at this age! Had I known all this I def would have started earlier. After 2 losses in 5 months I am convinced I just have "old eggs" Another girl suggested I get tested for MTHFR. I am going to call my Dr. today about that. But, I really do think it's my eggs. I've done a lot of research about coq10 and PQQ for egg quality, as well as wheatgrass and I just started taking all of these about 3 days ago. I guess it takes about 3 months to go in affect so I am remaining hopeful that we can still do this naturally since we really don't have the money for IVF. I would love to hear from anyone else who is trying the COQ10. I also would like to try Femara but I don't think it would even be worth it to do until the 3 months has passed. My Dr. wanted me to do Clomid but I heard Femara is much better esp. for us older girls lol. I guess there's less side effects, doesn't affect lining or CM which is good. Hope to hear from some of you as it would be nice to talk to someone who is going through the same thing I am. It's hard to talk to your friends esp since most of them already have their kids and just don't get it. Here's to hoping for some BFPs that stick!!! :)

Snooklepoodle: I am not gonna lie, the HSG test they do for the tubes is painful!! BUT, it only lasts for like a minute.
