Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Uni Tsi- I am not sure about Cherokee...my dh is part Oglala Lakota and unci is how we say it in that language  I think you are on the right track though :winkwink:

Ali- how are you today lady?

Babywhisperer- um, bump pics??? I loved taking bump pics, lol. It is so hard to get preggo, stay preggo, just BE preggo--loved showing it off!

Matin, Sams, Alin--ladies!! :hi: :flower:

Sorry so short today ladies, kids r keeping me running  :headspin: I have been going crazy lately. Still got their room to work on but have been concentrating outside. I had some up-keep painting to do so made the fun mistake of letting the dd's help  lol! Ah, well we painted the front yard antique bench (had to - it was peeling everywhere and looked hideous! Then we painted the front step area, and the huge old picnic table out back. It was like 200 degrees outside :laugh2: so I am sure I've burned....anyway dd's managed to paint each other in the process, so I am glad I issued junker shoes and T-Shirts for that job! :haha: Aw well, everything looks nice now :winkwink: I have shopped for the weekend, abstained from buying the ice cold Coors :cloud9: I really wanted  have been out hiking, etc, now going for a quick jaunt with dd's....last night was weird we had a tornado warning! So dd's and of course headed out for a quick walk before the storm hit, got caught in a few dust twisters and of course the neighbors followed us in their four wheelers taunting "bitter git yer camra out, bitter it yer camra out! (they are red necks).

I swear

LOL! Anyway, sandwiches for dinner (too hot to cook) so we are off on our walk. Will check in tomorrow. Or, in the words of my redneck neighbors "wull chick in tuh morry" LOL LOL!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome all new ladies! I'm on this board, though mostly just keeping up-to-date on everyone's progress.

I was visiting my family over the July 4th weekend. It's been 5 years since I've seen some of my siblings, so it was super fun to meet my new nephews and niece. I had a blast playing with them! Since none of my family is near us and none of our friends have children, we rarely are around children anymore. My acupuncturist asked me last week if "Would I be upset being around the babies?", I said, "NO WAY! I LOVE being around them; I don't get emotional over that stuff, and figure if I never have kids, then I have some awesome nephews and nieces that I can spoil!". Being around them definitely made me feel more motherly and desiring a child even more, but we shall see. We should know the results of my husband's most recent SA, so fingers crossed that something is working.

Best of luck to you all! Baby Dust!

thank you isobel and alin for your words of encouragement .... I keep alternating between believing everything will work out fine and total panic. I don't think it helps that my DH is several years younger then me and seems to think we have all the time in the world. Maybe a part of me just wants to be able to tell him, "no no the ladies on bnb said we have to hurry up" :shy: when I think about it like that, now I feel silly lol

I completely feel you on this! My husband is about 4 years younger than me and he seems to not understand the sense of urgency. He finally came around to realize we have to :sex: as often as possible, particularly because my cycle is irregular. I told him that I am only giving myself until 36 (another year) and then we aren't trying anymore. I want to feel a little more in control of this whole shebang. It's a tough thing!

Hello everyone! I'm the newbie and just joined today. Congrats to all those over 35 that have conceived and are ttc. I'm mom to two teenagers girl 14 and boy 16. I have a normal cycle and recently did a physical-healthy and no illness. I always wanted another baby but timing wasn't right. I maybe preggo I am 6 dpo and having lots of cm (tmi) since Ov. I have lower ab cramping since 2-3 dpo and left boob tingling and throbbing on side. Im expecting AF on 15th. Has anyone experienced this and got BFP?

Just joined babyandbump yesterday and delighted to find this forum!

I'm 41 and we have been NTNP for about 2 years. Finally decided if we wanted to do this, we needed to see a specialist. Just finished my first round of Clomid. I'll go in Friday to see how things are coming along.

I'm feeling very hopeful, though I know the journey is just starting!

Thank you ladies for being here!!

Ladies Welcome!

This has been a great thread.. its been quiet for the past week or 2 though. I think some are mourning the losses we've had recently. I was one of them, I did a FET (frozen embryo transfer) from a previous IVF and the baby stopped growing at 6.5 weeks. I am moving onwards and am looking to the future. Another woman here, Chantal also had a MC at the same time as me.

There are however 2 ladies that are currently pregnant.. Angel and BabyWhisperer!!! :wohoo: So it is possible and we are all still trying!!!

Shorty.. your symptoms sound promising!!! :dust:

Ganda.. welcome to you too! I am 40, almost 41 and did clomid back when I was 39 and starting out on this infertility voyage. :dust:

AFM.. well I had blood work done on Monday to see if my HCG levels had returned to 0 after my D&C on Jun 27th. Turns out that my HCG levels are still elevated, at 59. So I have to go back on Monday to test again :nope: I'm also hoping to get the results of the chromosomal testing on my fetus. To see if it didn't make it due to a chromosomal issue. I'm really hoping that this is the reason. If it turns out that it was normal, this will be crushing as it will mean that my NK cells destroyed the baby even with all the efforts we have made to suppress them  I still have 2 frosties :cold: embryos that we can use to try one more time, but I am also considering doing a fresh IVF.

For those of you that are considering IVF, there is a great center in Colorado, called CCRM that is having great success with women over 40. Let me know if you are interested and I'll go into more detail.

Welcome Everyone! Glad to have you hear.

I've been working on conceiving for the past year. Taking longer than normal due to several factors. My age (37) doesn't help, and my cycles were quite abnormal for 4 years. However, I am now on a precise 29 day cycle (even down to the exact hour). Yay! My husband has low sperm and morph due to testicular cancer. Blah!!

However, we have an update today from his SA performed last Friday. He is now up to 5.9 million, 78% motility and low morph. This is an improvement, and has doubled since February, however, still as the FS says, "not good enough". I really do despise doctors because I understand their pragmatic stance, however, I've seen many others conceive with these types of numbers, so they immediately want to do IVF. I'm just not keen on this idea at all.

I guess my hubby and I have some talking to do tonight. I would like to continue to try naturally, regardless of timing and my age. I suppose I'm stubborn and I want to do things on my own terms, regardless of the outcome.

I know that you aren't a fan of IVF, but with IVF they can do ICSI with IMSI which supposedly selects the chromosomally normal sperm for use in ICSI. This vastly improves your chances when MFI is the main issue. Not saying that trying naturally is impossible, but your odds are probably in the 30-40% range per cycle of IVF vs 1-5% naturally. I could be off on the odds but they are likely that far apart. So my suggestion to you how much you want a biological baby. If the answer is yes, then I'd go for IVF. If you want to let nature take its course and/or fate, then go naturally. Or maybe adoption is an option?

I'm sure you will make the right decisions for you!

How is everyone? Chantal? Ali? Thinking of you ladies.

Sorry I've been MIA, have a lot going on. I've been hesitant to share what's gong on with the little bean since there has been so much heartache and disappointment on here. We found out after the Maternity21 test that we are having a boy! If there was any doubt, at last nights ultrasound he was reaching between his legs and playing with his you know what! I had another blood test for Down's and Spinabifida. I have my stage 2 scan on Aug 5 where we will get to see a lot more in detail, but last night we could see 10 fingers, 10 toes, the baby's wee wee, and even the chambers of the heart. I am still cautious but pray every night that all is ok.

I promise Coy I will post a bump pic soon. I'm more nervous of the boobs thought. I am borderline DD!! I wonder if Hooters would hire a prego woman???

Miss you ladies. Hope you're all doing well!

Thanks! I think for now we're going to do the ol' wait and see. I know time is not on my side, but I'm going with my gut right now. I think we will wait until January to see if we should take another course of action. By that point, I will be almost 38, so I will decide at that point. I keep thinking if my low percentages, at some point, in some month, my odds will start to stack up in my favor.

Morning Ladies..

BabyWhisperer.. YAY! great news! Don't worry about me! I'm happy for you and love to hear about your great news!

Sams.. Hi! I am going to post a set of supplements that should help us older ladies with old eggs.. just need to do so from my computer not my iPhone!

AFM.. started the supplements and am thinking I'll do another fresh IVF in Sept. No news yet on the fetus my FS office called, the lab is behind and they have promised results by EOD Monday! I have an appt next Wednesday to decide what to do next. I'm prepared for a FET or another fresh IVF, or god forbid the news that my body killed the embryo even with the IVIg  That will be a hard thing to deal with.

Hello and welcome to all the new ladies.:hi: I will be 42 next Saturday and my dh is 40. We have done 2 cycles of ivf and got pregnant naturally 3 times but all were miscarried. Moving on to the next step which is donor egg.

Babywhisperer- congrats on week 17 and finding out you are having a boy!

Ali - Yes I am praying for you that it was just a chromosome issue and not the nk killer cells.:hugs: I told my Ob that I felt relieved that it wasn't my body that was at fault, just something that went wrong during cell division.

Angel -you are more than half-way there :) Sorry to hear that you and dh are going your seperate ways. Alot of emotions to deal with while you are pregnant.

Sorry I have been mia. I was waiting on my chromosome results. I got them today. 47,XX,+16 (Trisomy 16 girl). My new Ob has referred my dh and I to a genetic counsellor who we have an appointment with on Monday 15th. We will have karyotyping done on both of us to see if we are carriers of chromosomal rearrangement – (translocation, inversion or insertions)that we may be passing on to our babies. We also had a consult with Re last Friday and he sent me for further immunological testing for RPL. (still waiting on the results of those.) I told him I would not do donor egg until I ruled out anything immune related. The previous Ob never gave me my labs and when I finally got them it showed I tested positive for mthfr C677t! Since I was only heterozygous for the gene she totally dismissed it! Alot of doctors don't take it seriously unless you have 2 copies of the gene (homozygous)yet it is known to cause miscarriage. I am now taking special prenatals that have methylfolate instead of folic acid which my body cannot process.

Hi ladies. I know it's been since February since I've posted. Quite a bit was going on, and I needed to take a break.
I had a miscarriage in January, but for some reason didn't feel like sharing with anyone. I hadn't even told my husband I was pregnant because I was waiting for the pg test to get darker... it never did, and then I miscarried. It took me until May to finally tell DH about it.
I'm doing better now, but I'm not sure that another baby will ever happen. And I'm trying to become okay with that.

Ali & Chantal - I am so sorry for your losses. :hugs:

I am going to try to catch up on everyone. I will be in and out of town over the next three weeks, going places with limited to no internet access, so I may not be consistent until mid August.

 to all!

Chantal I'm very happy that this doctor is more thorough and proactive. I'm sure it is a good feeling to exhaust all options and make sure the obstacles can't be overcome before deciding to do DE. This way you know you and your dr did everything you could. I have a friend dealing with a full trisomy 13 daughter and they were never tested for anything. It's heart wrenching to see what they are going through. I also have a friend who kept miscarrying and they finally realized she translocation chromosomes and would never carry full term. They did DE and the doctors chose a donor that closely matched her body type, coloring, nationalities and height. She was successful on her first try and has 2 healthy 4mo old twin boys. I can ask her questions for you if you'd like. I'm praying for you.

Twotogo I'm so sorry about the mc. Have you consulted with your Dr as to what you can do next to increase your chances of success?

Ali, I admire your strength and don't jump to conclusions about Mondays report. It could be a myriad of reasons. If you do a fresh IVF will you stay in Fl or go to CCRM in Denver?

Hi Ladies,

Nice to hear from you TwoToGo, and sorry for your loss  it hurts no matter how far along you are :hugs: Next time let us help you! I see you posted a fitness ticker, good work! Keep it up!

Chantal.. you know my feelings about your situation! I'm so happy you are getting karoryped to make sure you don't have translocation issues. It could also be the male that has those as well, it's not just a female issue. So yay for testing! Then once you know all the answers you'll know whether to replace your eggs or DH's sperm or maybe both!

AFM: Not going to CCRM in Denver, they are mega pricey and with the additional travel cost it is just not going to happen. I have been reading up on their process and I'm confident that my FS and my research can reproduce their success. The appointment was moved to Wednesday now ugh. They will get the results on Monday but not in time for my appt. So hopefully they will call with the results. Then on Wednesday I'll go in to discuss my options. I'm undecided whether I want to try a full fresh IVF, if the issue was chromosomal, and my hormone panel shower still have a decent egg reserve, the yes I'd like to do one more. Then do day 5 chromosomal testing to weed out the bad ones and while we are at it do testing on the 2 frozen ones too. Then transfer the good ones in a FET the following month. If my hormones are bad or if the tests show my baby was normal, I may try with the 2 I have left.. a Hail Mary with added NK cell suppression. But we'll see what the results show and the tests.

Chantal! Your remnants are being felt here today! It's yucky out!

Babywhisperer - I haven't been to a doctor for quite sometime. I have no insurance. There are several reasons that could have contributed to the miscarriage. One, of course, would be my age. Several other possible reasons could be the black mold in our house, and we also had a low level carbon monoxide leak in our house, which had been going on for a while. It was found when a contractor came to inspect the black mold in March. It was fixed immediately, but it could have been a cause. Who knows.:shrug:
It's probably a good idea not to get pregnant until we get out of this house, which will hopefully be soon.
