Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Happy Tuesday everyone :)

Jess.. Sorry to hear about AF :( but at least she came, and went quickly!! Mine is too, YAY! I hear you about the monitoring, and the charting and all that stuff. I think I will continue to do it, but mostly because I want to see how my body is feeling and reacting to all the things that are happening. I have started temping, and will be curious to see how it turns out. Of course it is always up to you, and what you feel comfortable doing!! :hugs:

As for me and the clomid, I have made it through 4 days, with 1 more dose to take tonight. I have had very little side effects, the heightened emotions are pretty much my only issue. Last night I had a cry for basically no reason at all! I felt silly but I just couldn't help it. Oh well, as I said, only 1 more day, and then I'll be done with it. Then tomorrow morning I get my tubes checked, and then its the waiting game until next week!

Ohhh.. and I picked out my sperm donor. Did I tell you that? OHHH.. man that was strange. I paid the extra money so I could see pictures of them, and would have a better idea of the man that I was picking to be my baby daddy. I finally picked a man that is a pro golfer and his brother is a pro baseball player, he is really hot too! I figure I have the brains, and he has the looks and athleticism, so hopefully I have a well rounded child! I have to call them today and have the samples sent to my Dr's office. The Dr wants the sample ASAP.

Jess, so glad you are back!! Missed you over the weekend :flower:

Coy.. sorry you've been feeling so tired lately, but don't let it get you, you are woman :) hear us roar.. LOL!

Ali

Ali!! I'm so excited for you!! As for the  last night, sometimes I do that and I am NOT on clomid. :haha: Mine is from a combination of hormones and lack of .

So you picked your sperm donor? How exciting is that?! I didn't even know you could do that!! And even look at pictures...wow!! I am not sure if you can tell from my avatar picture, but I am bi-racial. How does it work when you go to pick a sperm donor? Can you have any race you want? Is it limited? Do they do a blood analysis to make sure you are compatible?

So since AF came for her visit this month, I wonder if there is something else potentially wrong with me. Or if it is my BF. Nonetheless, he will not do the SA. He doesn't even want to talk about it anymore. And I believe my FS said he wouldn't do anything else unless BF got tested. So I am stuck. I wonder if perhaps he will check my tubes just to rule that out? Maybe I will call his office this week and ask.

Ali, I have a good feeling about this for you...or maybe I'm just excited for you!! It doesn't even matter. I am sending you lots of :dust: and I pray it all turns out wonderfully!

Ali ~ all sounds exciting and nice to be able to actually get a visulization of the donor

jm ~ im in uk but my dr refused to do anything for me untill partner at the time got checked as he said there is no point,i did eventually get tested with my now hubby as he went and got tested

Jess.. thanks so much!! I really do hope this is it :) If not I'll have to take a break until September (I'll be in Canada for July and the first part of August). So yes, I'm really hopeful!

TEEHEE.. about the  I am usually not too emotional, but I guess I just needed to let it out. It was a woe is me moment, feeling sorry for myself, and just being silly. Glad I'm not the only one that has moments like that! :hugs:

The company I went with is cally XYTEC, and they are in Atlanta, GA, there are others that are in California. Different banks cater to different needs, from what I have been told XYTEC has a very diverse donor population, and you can pick from many different races and ethnicities. They do all the genetic testing for certain chromasomal abnormalities, and other issues that could put you or the baby at risk. They also check their blood type, and all of that stuff too. Then you can select the type of donor you would like!! You can search for free, and take a peek at the different donors. If you want to see photos and more comprehensive information about them, then you have to pay.

As for your situation, I think you are really in a hard spot, as you can't really move forward without your BFs help! What does he think about the situation? Does he have an alternative plan? Or does he just want to bury his head in the sand like most men ;):haha: Maybe you just need to give him time? I would consult with the FS (or maybe another FS), and see if you can't complete all the testing on you. My other thoughts are that you could take some supplements? There are products out there called FertileAid and FertileCM, that help with fertility and CM issues. I'm not sure whether they work, but maybe they do? Or at the very least you could try the guaifenesin. If nothing else, I think its key that you make sure you are ovulating, and do lots of BD before :haha:

:hugs:

Ali...how many mg is your clomid? A friend of mine took it and didn't experience any side effects. but I am wondering if it comes in different doses that could potentially affect your mood?

Ali...how many mg is your clomid? A friend of mine took it and didn't experience any side effects. but I am wondering if it comes in different doses that could potentially affect your mood?

It definitely could! I am on 100MG, but the lowest dose is 50MG. Usually they start people at 50MG and then each month work their way up. Since I explained to my Dr that it was this month or we'd have to wait until September, he may have decided to just up the dose to give me the best chance? I'm not sure why. He is also going to do an HCG shot that is supposed to mimic the LH surge and induce ovulation when the time is right. So there won't be any guessing as to when I ovulated. Plus with all the extra follicles that will be producing eggs, I bet there will be a good chance I get pregnant!

I must say that besides the heightened emotions the past few days, it hasn't been too bad! Some women don't have any side effects at all, while others feel horrible. I guess I'm in the middle. There are supplements out there that can mimic clomid. Something called vitex (chaste berry tree), I was having trouble with my periods a few months ago, due to stress they were delayed. Well I started taking vitex and they were immediately regular! So maybe that is something you could look into? I don't know how you feel about supplements, I personally don't mind taking them, but do worry whether they are effective, and/or can cause health issues.

Let us know what you decide!!!

I have regular cycles and my FS said when he looked at my ovaries that I had just ovulated and had at least 10 follicles that he could count right off the bat. So I don't think I am a candidate for clomid. I think it is just a matter of BD'ing at the right time...and a little more often. We both work so much and the focus on having a child has become an irritant for my BF. So, I decided not to bring it up anymore.

But I think I will continue to monitor the process just so I will know exactly when we conceived (when it finally does happen).

I sure hope there isn't anything preventing conception on his side...:(

Additionally, my faith is strong and I am convinced God did not give me this strong desire only to have it come back void. I will get my BFP one day!! :)

Well that is all promising :) Maybe just using the guaiphenesin to help with the CM? Otherwise I think you are doing all you can!!! Keep the faith, I believe that God has a plan for us all, and he will come through in the end. :hugs:

Seeing pregnant women and nursing mommies in my office makes me happy...and sad at the same time!! They are everywhere!! Why aren't I one of them!??!??

Ok...I'm alright...just had a moment. It's crazy but I can almost see how beautiful our babies will be...I'm just driving myself crazy!

Thanks for listening...

AWW.. so sorry Jess! :hugs::flower: I know how you feel. Keep your faith!!

Hello everyone! I was a little MIA this weekend. :witch: tried to ruin it but i didn't let her. She came. She went. And now I am ready for this next month.

Although I don't think I want to do all the monitoring that I did last month. It was such a let down. I don't know. What do yall think? Is it a good idea to keep monitoring? I have never done the temp charting.

Coy, is it necessary?

Ali, how is the clomid going for you?

Jess, glad to have you back  Re: the charting and temping, monitoring, etc....yes, I would personally keep it up. I have used my chart so much for reference! It helped me to understand my body and what was going on. Another lady I know does this charting stuff all the time and her doctor has actually requested that she keep it up then bring her charts in to him so he can get a better idea why she hasn't yet conceived. So I think that in that respect there is def some benefits. Plus you'll pinpoint Ov day, etc, to help maximize your chances of cathing that egg!

Jess-

I understand how you would feel with your BF refusing to get tested. I know you stated this discussion is an irritant for him but he needs to back up and realize how very important this is to you. Make it plain to him everything that you have done so far and the testing you are willing to get completed- sopme of it is not exactlya piece of cake either! He could perform an at-home SA and ship to doc's office. Most men though view this look at their :spermy: as an attack on their manhood or virility....tell him "it's got nuthin' to do with hotness babe" :haha: He needs to know how you feel whether he likes it or not. Not trying to offend or upset you, but trying to be honest with you :hugs:

So nice to meet you both MissusO and AngelSerenity, and welcome!
The more the merrier :)
I wish you both lots of sticky :dust: and :hugs: too!

I'm not sure if you have heard my story yet, but here goes:

I'm 39, single and wanting to be a mom. I have picked out some sperm, and let me tell you he is a fine looking man! Extremely athletic, has a college degree, and a smile to boot! I am currently taking clomid (day 4 of 5) and will be having my tubes tested later this week. Should everything go well, we will be doing IUI late next week. This is my first time trying clomid/IUI and I'm hopeful that it works!

:hugs: Ali

Thanks Ali, your journey sounds amazing, go girl, I love women who know what they want and go for it. I hope everything goes well, can't wait to read about it!

Thanks Phil, the good news stories help so please hang around! I'm glad you're getting your wee miracle, fingers crossed for you. I had 6 cycles of Clomid back in 2009, I ovulated mega style apparently but no it didnt work for me. I seem to have overcome the getting pregnant bit now with alternative methods for PCOS and my body, it's just holding onto them

:hi: hello

Am a relative newbie here too but have been made to feel very welcome and have had lots of laughs and support so far and am sure you will too. Am from Norn Iron too but live in Edinburgh now - 23 years here but NI is still 'home' - sticks in the blood obviously :haha:

Take care

Missuso

Cheers Missuso, I know what you mean. I love travelling and have worked in a few places but always come back here .

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

I'm currently WTT for another cycle or 2, if I can hold on but the patience is wearing thin already lol. My last MC only finished 4 1/2 week ago and I've had an AF already so the pondering begins. I got pregnant straight after a MC this year, which also ended in this latest mis, so I have decided to wait a couple of cycles for peace of mind. tick tock tick tock:growlmad:

Ahhh Coy! You make my heart smile! Thank you for your encouragement. It absolutely makes me realize that BF and I need to sit down and have a ♥ to ♥ conversation. I didn't know how to approach it before but now I do. :happydance: I feel so much better...

Thanks again!!

I agree with Coy! It takes 2 to make a baby, and discussing the issue and coming up with a plan that works for you both is key. Telling him how you feel, will help him to see how important this is to you, and hopefully he will do the right thing :) :hugs:

JM - totally agree with what the others say! My DH had the same attitude so we bought a home testing kit for his SA and when it came up with a problem he realised he needed to get tested properly. Turns out he was fine, we probably just didnt use the kit properly or mis-read the results.

Could this be an option?

Oh man, was he totally irked with you after that ? :haha: Poor guy :nope: lol, all that stress! But hey- at least he got tested and everything was okay! That is the important part and why have the woman go through all of these intensive and often physically intrusive tests when it may be the man's issue? My dh was willing but we got pg so  got to skip that part thank goodness.

Tiatammy- as far as doing anything different- not really. I used opk's to verify my Ov then temping to help with that also. Then I watched my cm to make sure it was ewcm...I took Guiffenesin tablets too for the five days of fertile window, just to help with cm. Then I just got mad at dh and, um, put my foot down about timing :haha:

Try not to worry or be scared- tubal reversal is a fairly simple and very common process. I am sure everyuthing is fine! But I am wondering if you are perhaps having an issue with hormone levels and that's why no LH surge or egg release?? They have therapies for htis so don't worry...also, no reason to be scared about an IUI- they are a simple process that skips over the cm if you are having an issue with that. The lady on this thread "Philomena" is currently about 9 weeks prego with a first time IUI- very succesful and not scary at all! What is your cm usually like? I think it may be hormonal though as you mentioned no LH surge on OPK...possibly a long cycle? Let me know what you find out from your doc and try not to worry too much :hugs: :friends:

Hi grey eyes I am so confused, talked to doc, and he said my charts look boobie that was his exact words lol. well I told him that as of now I am on cd 17. started period on 5/13/12 which is cd 1 so today is 5/29/12 and that would be cd 17 right? I have counted and counted and still keep coming up with the same nimbers, I dont use fertility friend I use this charting from cycle watch that the doc uses, and I email it to him each cycle. I am concerned, I dont know what I could poss. be doing wrong, I have counted my cycles like I always have, I get my cycle anywhere fron 26 to 28 days. GRRRR, well he wants hubby and I to come up to kentucky and have the tubal x-ray done and for hubby to have another SA. and he is talking about fertiity drug after we find out what the tubal xray says and hubbys SA. HUGS HUGS FRIENDS

Hmm...boobie, huh? And he's got his Phd right? LOL! Silly guy :haha: All charts look "boobie" at first glance  What can we say? I wonder why he had trouble making sense of it? Is there any way you can transfer your chart so we can see it here? I am curious about how boobie it is :) lol, in all seriousness- if your dh is willing to do another SA just to be sure then I say go for it, then move on to the x-rays...it is all worth it so that you know what is going on. How long have you been ttc??

Well doc. meant to say the charts look like poopie, another words real bad, and all this time each chart I sent him he said looked normal, I dont get that, why tell me all this time my charts were normal, now it has been 14 months and now you are going to tell me they look poopie, the charts are by a company that he uses with his patience that cant be transferred anywhere but to him, that sucks, I would love to let you all see it I would love to get some feed back or help. Now he has got me wondering about figureing my cycle days out if I am doing it right, I have been counting my cycles since I started my period at the age of 12, I mean my mom told me how to do it.She always told me 28 days from the start of the last period is your next period and that is the way it has been happening. Of course now I get them every 26 to 28 days. GRRRR It is driving me nuts. HUGS HUGS FRIENDS
