Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Babywhisperer- It's Long Island IVF. I chose it because it my close friend went there and had successful triplets with IUI. It is a center of excellence under my insurance and my doctor created the first IVF birth through cryopreserved embryos. I can't say exactly how much its costs, but I know they give grants. That is basically why I am going there.

Babywhisperer... I agree and think you should try the IUI for a month and then go to IVF, that way you are trying both options, but in the most affordable way?

Ali... how are you feeling? You do sound as if you have some type of flu virus, I hope you are resting up (and looking forward to the roller coaster again, we're sadists I think really!)

Coy... how are the DDs? Did you get your assignment finished?

Jess... GL for this cycle, I hope you catch that egg :flower:

Samsfan... How are you?

Phil... loving the profile pic, how are you coping with the new routine?

AFM... I got a positive opk last night but temp hasnt dropped this morning so I reckon ovulation will be tonight or tomorrow. I can feel the bloated tummy and slight ovulation pains starting which for me normally start the day before ov. We :sex: yesterday and I'm not sure if I can innocently entice DH tonight without him becoming suspicious. We are only meant to be NTNP but I CANT HELP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a good day everybody x

Hi Sparrow,

I am 40 and have done 2 IVF's (both failures) but I have the chance to do 2 FET (frozen embryo transfers) so that is what I'm gearing up to do. There are plenty of women here that are my age or slightly older that have babies. Phil just turned 41 and she just gave birth to a baby girl. Never just found out she is pregnant and she is 40. So don't give up hope. However you might want to go see your OB and have a few tests done, to see if you might need a little extra help? IUI/injectibles or clomid is very popular and people often have success with that. So don't give up!

Morning! YAY for getting a positive OPK! I'm sure you can entice your DH. Is there a way you can entice him without making it obvious that it is your idea? That might work

I'm still not feeling that great. I just had TMI a bout of the runs, and my glands are swelling up again. For the life of me I can't figure out what has all the symptoms I have? My lower back is very painful too. I had trouble sleeping last night because it was so sore. I am just trying to make it through the week so I can   My Mom keeps telling me to go get some exercise, and I don't disagree that I need to exercise, but not when I have a fever and I ache from head to toe! :haha: It is comical now, I swear this bug whatever it is is a chameleon and keeps changing its spots! :argh:

Second shot of estrogen is tomorrow, then U/S on Friday with blood work. Fun stuff! :haha:

Good morning everyone! :hi:

Sparrow...I'm Jess...welcome! I am 41 and I am TTC #2. There really isn't anyone in my life telling me i am too old. BUT, a lot of people don't know how old I really am. But my parents do 9Duh!) and so do my BF's parents. And they are completely supportive and excited and anxious! Lol! Don't listen to anyone telling you what you should and should not do with YOUR life. That is between you and your family. If you want another baby, and your healthy enough to have one, then you SHOULD! :) We will all support you here! :)

Coy...I am so glad you got your computer issues resolved. It is no fun playing catch-up on homewo0rk assignments. I am completing a self-paced teacher certification course right now. And given how busy I have been the last few days, I am so glad it is self-paced...otherwise I would be WAY behind!!

Ali...you better start feeling better or I might have to make a trip to Florida! Maybe you need to completely clean everything (including your body). Detox your house, car, and body. And start fresh. Have you tried that yet?

Angel...good luck on getting a little BD'ing time in!

Chantal got a BFP!!! I am stupid excited for her! That is so so wonderful!!! :happydance: i can't wait for her to get back so we can celebrate online with her!

AFM...well, lets just say I don't like scheduled sex!! I haven't ovulated yet, but we are trying the every other day thing until I ovulate. And neither of us could really get into it :saywhat:! I just don't get it. I will have to try a different approach tonight.

Ah,Jess :haha: lol @ timing and not "getting into it" Serious? Skip the romance baby! Just grab him :winkwink:

Helllooo ladies! Good mornin' to ya'll :winkwink: I am in a good mood this morning (K, late morning  )

Jess- I like your idea of detoxing everything. Ali tells me I can't (or shouldn't ) use Lysol...how do I detox the house? Bleach? I'll try it.

I did complete my assignment- 3 part Assessments package (bleh) on HIPAA Privacy Rules. (boring :shhh: ) lol!

OMG, the last few years we have had to drive half way across the state for Teagen to take her school testing :growlmad: this year we get to do her ISAT 20 minutes away! :happydance: I can't elive it! And her annual IRI testing (drumroll) at our local library :saywhat:  lol! I am psyched, can't wait.

Got everybody in the house on antibiotics except Aeryn and I...I had dh schedule to go see his doc as his glands are swollen and not responding to meds :nope: T is on a super antibiotic...*sigh* Nuts!for it all. I was up at 3 this morning w/ :wine: lol! Just one glass. I'm a good girl :smug: lol

Coy- I know it sounds gross...but vinegar...or there are many green, organic products even at target. I'm one to talk I just took a break from cleaning with Lysol! and I love Murphy's oil for my wood floors.

yuck for the super bug...a super virus is on the loose:plane:

Good for you on the wine. You deserve it!

Alicatt- hope you feel better. I think you need to serious get some rays and some exercise. You need to kick whatever bug is getting you. I had some sick people around me at work today... I said stay away.

Well everyone, I have some cramping today..probably the witch about to get me. I am breaking out which is always a sign that she is on the way:(

Hey BabyWhisperer!

It sounds like Cornel is the better option. From what you've said they are better able to help you there. From your explanation, they don't seem to have as bleak of an outlook as the other FS did. Plus they are more likely to think outside the box to make you pregnant. I honestly think you get what you pay for!

You are right about the Injectibles/IUI it will be a dry run on the meds, and maybe you'll get lucky and it will work! Didn't you say your DH went off propecia? So his :spermy: might be in better shape now!

I know IVF is a scary option, and very expensive. I was just doing my taxes and I spent what Cornel costs thus far! My IVF's were slightly cheaper, but I had other costs, like :spermy: and surgery along the way.

ICSI was recommended to me as well since I was using donor sperm. They take the best looking :spermy: and inject it into the egg. It increases your fertilization rates. So I would definitely do that.

 missed you!

PS. Did you see Chantal got a BFP? She left for Barbados yesterday and won't be back until March 1st. She found out on Valentines day!

I didn't see that! What great news!! Oh this makes me very happy.

I think you are right. A month of injectables and IUI will get me used to injecting and they will see how I stimulate. I appreciate your advice especially since you've been down this road. Xo. And I missed you too. How are you feeling?

so I tested this am...is 9 dpo too early... because it was like BLANK! NEGATIVE!

so I tested this am...is 9 dpo too early... because it was like BLANK! NEGATIVE!

It's also too early for AF! Give it another 2 days, then test again. The embryo could be implanting right now, the cramps can be signs of this. Here is hoping that is what you are feeling!

AFM- as long as I stay on the Mucinex D and take my migraine meds I seem to be surviving. I can't wait for Saturday! I have to take my car in, but as soon as I return I'm going back to bed and I'm going to  this thing off. Then come Monday I better darn well be feeling like normal! I can't keep feeling like this. I did have a talk with my GP nurse and she suggested that I get a referral to a neurologist. Thing is that I still think it's viral, just not influenza A or B. It's the only thing that makes sense

Hey all..

I spent 2 hours at the walk-in clinic last night. They did a rapid flu and rapid mono test, both came back negative. Thing is that I still feel like crap. She gave me a z-pack in hopes that perhaps it was a different kind of bacteria that was causing my symptoms. So between that, Mucinex-D and Excedrine migraine, I'm surviving. Barely. I slept almost 12 hours last night.

My symptoms are: headache, low grade fever (99.5 ish), nausea, swollen lymph nodes (in neck and under arms), aches all over, fatigue, sinus/ear pain.

Oh sweetie this sounds like what is going around here. I had to be on 2 Z packs back-to-back and it did the trick. I hope you get better fast.

Good to see Jess check in! How is everyone else?? Coy? Twotogo? Sansfan? Chantal? Angel? Phil? Sorry I have been MIA, between earlier days, acupuncture after work...and the fact that I wanted to not obsess over my 2nd opinion @ Cornell today, I just felt staying off BNB was the best way to give my head and emotions a break.

I miss you all! I want to hear how everyone is doing?

Afm, my 2nd opinion appt today was ok. They did an exam and on the u/s he could see 6 follicles on the right and 3-4 on the left, suggesting a slightly better result than the .47 AMH blood test suggested. He decided to redo the AMH test and I will get the result in 10days. I think today was a good day to see him as I am getting AF tonight or tomorrow. The news wasn't great though. He thinks we have a 10-15% chance with injectables and IUI and to not bother with Clomid as my chances would be like 5% since DH's morphology is 5%. He is also requesting another blood test and SA for DH to double check the previous RE's tests. He thinks we have a 30-40% chance with IVF and thinks it is the best option esp if DH's morphology comes back as being low again...IUI may not work with his low #s, and that ICSI with IVF would be the best way to choose the best swimmers. I don't know what to do.

What would you ladies do? IUI with injectables for $1000 and try that for 3 mos, or skip right to IVF? The other thing is that Cornell doesn't have any payment plans like the 3rd party option of buying a plan for 24k and it covers 3 INF cycles, 2 FTs and if nothing works you get 70% back, the other RE at North Shore Hospital on LI has that plan. Cornell is like 22k upfront and that is per trial. We have no fertility benefits on DH's insurance. Any thoughts on what you ladies would do? This is the same doctor that helped Celine Dion and our close family friend who is an obgyn trusts him implicitly. If the first cycle doesn't work we have to spend another 22, so 44k for 2 cycles. :dohh: Do I choose the cheaper group that has a good reputation, or the more expensive group that has a world wide reputation of being stellar.

In the meantime

hi baby! typing one handed here so will be brief for now... when they talk about % chance of IUI or IVF working they are including absolutely everyone who has tried in that number- its not % chance of couples in exactly your situation- so your actual chance may be higher. ALSO IUI is considered an effective solution for couple's with low or compromised sperm as they take dh's sample- give it a 'scrub and shine' and then put them straight into the uterus where they more easily find their way to the awaiting egg... MOST couples who are going to be successful with IUI will succeed in the first 3 tries. IVF will be there all year long, but its a lot more invasive and trying, imho... I vote for giving the IUI a chance for 3 cycles then move on if you have to. spending 3,000 for 3 tries which may very well work is much more palatable than 22,000 out the gate for one go.... also, I would opt for the place with the track record.... imho....

missed you! glad you're back!!
phil.

so I tested this am...is 9 dpo too early... because it was like BLANK! NEGATIVE!

I didnt get my very first, extremely faint bfp until 10dpo and that was unusually early... a few more days.....

i mustve been out to lunch last week - i thought you were further into your cycle than you were!! ah, sleep deprivation!!
