Working out mommas-to-be!

Sorry to hear it's sciatica Sass, I hope the doctor recommended some stretches to help. It is seriously so cold here, no fun being outside at all. And I think it's supposed to stay pretty cold throughout March too :growlmad:

Don't beat yourself up too much Greats, it's easy to eat what's convenient when you're so busy.

I'm sick again today, headache and sick. Might try and walk on the treadmill if I feel better after my nap. Really hope this sickness passes soon...

Sass- Moving through cat and cow in yoga is supposed to be really great for sciatica. I don't have sciatica, but I do know that going through cat and cow has helped my back a few times when it was feeling tight. But I have been told by several people that it really helps sciatica. I'm sorry you have that! I've heard it's painful.

Mrs Eddie- Sorry to hear you are sick! Hopefully your nap helped. I was sick about 2 weeks ago and I felt like I was living on Tylenol cold. Hope yours passes soon!

Greats- I don't think there's anything wrong with having to have fast food esp when you're busy. I get it a lot, but I just order the healthiest things on the menu. :) I want Taco Bell now. Maybe I'll get some tonight.

I am feeling good this week. I was having a few struggles last week, but it seems my body has worked up more strength. And so I'm feeling good. I'll see how my foot does in my dance class tomorrow. I'm going to try some Dr. Scholls inserts to see if they can help absorb some of the impact.

I need to pick up something heavy and put it down loudly =/ can't wait to start lifting at my normal weight again. If DH will help me! Been cleared by doc to start weight lifting again.

Thanks Rebecca, am still not feeling great today but better than yesterday at least. I'm going to do some yoga tonight, which will hopefully help. Hope your foot gets better soon and that you have no problem resuming your classes.

That's awesome that you can start lifting weights again DSemcho, I'm sure you've missed it!

I did my dance class this morning and had no issues with my foot!! :happydance:

Also, if this is at all reassuring to those of you not yet near the end like me, I've gotten to week 33 and I've had to go into smaller maternity pants! But I've gained 2 lbs this week (probably baby). The exercise is definitely worth it (eating healthy too, of course). I was actually discussing it with my husband last night because getting new pants now just seems kind of silly. But I had 2 pairs of pants that I wasn't wearing much because just 2 months ago or so, they were kind of tight. Now, my other pants are just so big they aren't staying up. So, I put on the "tight" pants and now they fit regularly. It's a really good feeling to have to go down a size this far along. :)

That's excellent Rebecca! Congrats!
I'm on it with the cat cowl. Thank you! My doc only told me to cross my leg(foot on knee) and lean forward. Not too helpful.
Going to the gym yesterday was fantastic. I just walked for an hour and did machines but I seriously feel much better on my hip.

My gosh yes I have missed it. I don't like not being able to work out - my workers won't even let me lift something that is 35lbs. I was like -_- I can carry that with one arm.

That's amazing, congrats Rebecca!

Glad that you're feeling better Sass, I can't believe that your doctor wasn't able to offer some more helpful tips re stretches :growlmad:

I hate not being able to work out either DSemcho, I have found that when I do work out I have a lot more energy.

Did my yoga workout yesterday, am going to try and do my pregnancy cardio/weights workout tonight. My goal was to get four workouts in this week and next and then be back up to five beginning in March

What's the yoga workout you have mrs. Eddie?

Sass- How is your sciatica doing? Have you found any relief at all?

Sass, I have the Gaiam Prenatal Yoga With Shiva Rea DVD, I love it

Managed to work out both days this weekend, very happy about that. Tonight is my night off as my DH has hockey so I'm on bedtime duty alone. Tomorrow, I'll do my pregnancy workout again!

I'm adding this DVD to my wish list.
Just got back from our baby moon / birthday trip. The traveling was tough on my hip but we took a long walk each day and got a few massages, so outside of travel days, I felt pretty good. Thanks so much for asking. Hoping maybe things are rising up and taking the pressure off the bottom. I've slso found a massage specialist at home that I'm going to make an appointment with asap.

Glad you had a great time away Sass, must have been tough coming back!

Massages are the best, going for my first prenatal massage tomorrow.

I really hope you like the workout. There is actually a section on it as well that instructs your partner on how to properly give a pregnancy massage. I'll have to make DH watch it again as a refresher :winkwink:

Sass- I'm glad you are feeling some relief! I hope that the massage will also help you to feel much better!

Mrs. Eddie- I hope you had a great massage as well! Sounds delightful :)

This thread has been quiet. How's everyone doing?

I had to ease up on my workouts some this past week because I ended up having a ton of BH with some cramping and extra discharge on Thursday. It was all okay in the end, but I think I was pushing myself too hard. I was working out and then nesting at home and I was basically moving almost nonstop. So, I'm pretty sure my body got mad at me. lol

I took it much lighter on Friday and I gave myself a relaxing "spa" day at home. I immediately started to feel tons better and all of the symptoms from the day before just went away. I went back to my dance class yesterday, and I was prepared to back off on my intensity, but I really didn't have to. I felt completely fine. I also rested more at home instead of just busying about cleaning and organizing. So, everything is good now.
I realized on Saturday that I only have about 5 more Saturdays of my dance class until my baby should be here! And I am pretty sure she is going to show up in March (just a feeling). So, that would be 4 Saturdays! It's so close! People have also been commenting on how surprised they are that I'm still doing as much as I am. But I can say it's not that hard when you've been doing it for most of your pregnancy. Your body gets used to it and changes are so gradual most of the time that your body has time to adapt. If I have any other days like last Thursday, I realized I may have to go easier for a few weeks. But once I get to week 38 I am not holding back.
Also, the further along I get, the more motivated I am to exercise because I keep thinking, "You are about to have a big job of pushing a baby out. You need to be in the best shape possible!" Also, I take time to look at the weights and think about how light my baby really is and how working on building muscle has made it so much easier to carry this baby around. My baby should be anywhere from 5-5.5 lbs by now. I picked up a 5 lb dumbbell yesterday and thought, "Wow! Baby is so light!" Even picking up an 8 lb dumbbell was another reminder about how little baby really does weigh. Somehow, that is so encouraging and motivating for me!

You are such an excellent source of motivation Rebecca! Bravo to you. And I totally agree: I feel so much better when I've worked out opposed to days I havent. Getting back tomorrow and really looking forward to it.
Stopping from nesting is so hard though, isn't it? I just love it and once I get going, it's so hard to stop.
So soon for you! Congrats! I'm sure your delivery will be that much easier.

Hi  hope it's ok to post here!

I'm 9 weeks and really want to have a 'fit' pregnancy this time round as its my first pregnancy where I've actually started at a healthy weight after losing 35kg last year. I'm feeling so soft and squishy and like I've let myself go already due to morning sickness and being afraid to exercise like I was.

I've had a quick read and you ladies are awesome keeping up the exercise  just wondering how you get over the pregnancy obstacles?? And I'm not into yoga more of an outside or treadmill jogger & walker or mini trampoline type. How do you keep exercise a priority when you're not feeling the best?

Thanks :flower:

Hi Ladies! Just found out I'm pregnant and am hoping to stay pretty fit during this pregnancy. I mostly do weights, yoga and walking atm.

When I was feeling really sick I worked hard at finding the time of day that was best for me. I brought a big water and granola bars with me and peed before I started. That seemed to work for me. I also only walked most days.

I agree with Sass, on days where you feel sick, (especially in the first tri), light exercise is a good idea or taking a break if you are really tired. I did find that when I could exercise in first tri I felt much better in terms of my energy.

Aliop, you can still jog on the treadmill if you were doing that before you were pregnant and maybe find another pregnancy safe workout instead of yoga that you could do that you might enjoy?

Rebecca, you are doing so great. I liked to think of labor as a marathon that I was preparing my body for to keep myself motivated. My workouts have been more consistent this past week am hoping I can get up to five this week, we'll see. Its also nicer here this week so am going to start walking again at work, will hopefully get a 3km walk in today

Allop- I really didn't start woking out in this pregnancy until about week 14 or so. I was working out before finding out I was pregnant. I was running every other day and doing BodyPump. I found out that I was pregnant at the end of July, and I kept it up a little into August (I no longer remember how far into August), but I quit from too much nausea and fatigue. For one, I just couldn't get up early enough anymore and my nausea was so bad that I just wanted to rest.
So anyway, I just waited until I started feeling better to get on a routine. But I've been on it every since. I exercise Monday-Saturday and I rest completely on Sunday. I started off with light, easy exercise and just worked my way up. It's really not hard to get past the obstacles once you get into a routine. Exercise has made me feel AMAZING! It made me feel so much better than I was before I got into a routine that that was motivation enough to keep at it. I'm basically in the last month of my pregnancy now and I still don't feel too limited. I don't jump or anything. I don't do anything flat on my stomach or flat on my back anymore. And that's about it.
