Hi girls was just wondering if there was anyone who could help...i have been ttc for 3 years now after m.c of twins in 2006 and have had the basic GP testing then reffered and refused by IVF wales due to my age (their policies state the female has to be aged 23 to be considered for treatment) so me being 21 i have to wait. Is there anything else i can try, any route i can take or any more testing i can suggest...i hate the feeling of not being able to do anything...i feel like i dont belong... thanks so much!

I spoke to IVF wales today who told me that there isn't any other testing to do as im too young thats prob why im not catching is because im so young anyway, she said that theres no point doing a HSG as it isnt a very nice test and it would need to be repeated if i were to get my tubes blocked again.
so she told me all i can do basically is wait until im 23 then i will be put back on their list, but if i had the money i could go privately - this annoyed me so much basically in their eyes im too young but if i have the money then i can have any treatment. its just not fair

I don't really have any advice b/c the treatments and policies etc are different than here in the US, but I hope you get some answers soon!

Hey hun, don't really know much about it but didn't want to read and run Hang in there, I understand your frustrations because i'm TTC at a young age too and although i'm 19 and have my own place and i'm getting married etc i've had a lot of problems with doctors just saying "Oh there's plenty of time yet" etc....

they told me i have unexplained infertility yet they havent given me genetics testing yet and they know theres something 'wrong' as such because i can get pregnant they started to take me seriously when i turned 21 and now i have to wait until im 23 for IVF clinic to make their move...but i just wanna know is there any other testing i might not have had that i should ask for xx

Have they done blood testing/ultrasound scans of ovaries? Have they considered PCOS?

Have they checked to see if your tubes are blocked. Usually that is one of the first test that they like to do with unexplained fertility.

Hi hun!

Im also under the age of any IVF treatment etc for my PCT. But they have referred me to a FS who has done CD3 and CD21 Bloods, ultrasounds, DF's SA and Im now on clomid... they will also do a HSG and Lap if no success with clomid after 6 months. After that there is nothing they can until Im 30.

i have had blood tests for cd21 and they said it was normal hun x they did blood tests for PCOS and said it was negative and i didnt have it.

do u mind asking how old you are hun as my GP mentioned Clomid and again said its something they can't prescribe only at the IVF clinic which again i have to be 23! its so silly surely there is something i can do xxxx

Hi hun, this might be different as i'm in England and not in Wales, but i've been prescribed Metformin by the gynecologist I saw a few days ago but in advance of the appointment I spoke to my GP about the treatments I might be offered and she said Metformin was the most likely and if that was unsuitable/doesn't work then i'd most likely be prescribed Clomid and i'm only 19.

T'elle, hang in there...take a deep breath. You're still a spring chicken. Perhaps some exploratory procedures may help to rule things out between now and when you're 23. Enjoy your life in the meantime!!! Best of luck

Thanks for the messages everyone! going to book an appointment with my gp and ask a few quesitions on whats been mentioned here

i know im still young but that doesn't make me feel any more relaxed hun if anythin it frustrates me more...we've still been trying 3 years and not had success so obviously 'something' might be wrong and i'd rather find out now and try to do something about it if it can be...x

I can't see why only the IVF clinic is offering HSG and clomid and I would have thought you could have these before IVF to rule out all other treatments. I would push for a HSG to find out if your tubes are blocked and push to either give clomid a try or IUI. You don't have to be 23 to try them and I would have thought a normal FS would give these not an IVF unit. For example my hospital do initial investigations such as HSG and bloods, give clomid and do IUI and if they don't work you are then referred to aspecific IVF clinic. However things might be different in Wales. Hope that helps and good luck

So sorry hun that sucks. I hope u prove those idiots wrong and get your BFP way before you turn 23. I have never heard of such craziness. If you are having issues you are going to have them weather you are 16 or 45 still something that needs to be addressed. Sending you bigs hugs and lots of baby dust.

Elle - Im 28.... so a couple of years away! Theyre still going to do the HSG/Lap and dye as if my problem is blocked tubes that can sometimes help. How much longer until your 23??

I'm sorry hun, they are probably delaying testing because they need to do those closer to doing IVF. I'm sure it is frustrating and I won't tell you "you have time" because I'm sure you are sick of hearing that. I will say that you are fortunate that you have the option of covered care for fertility treatments. I am in the states and I have to pay for everything fertility related. IVF won't be an option for us due to the expense. Try to relax and enjoy life until it is time that you can get the help you need. Who knows it might just happen accidentally then. Good luck with everything.

I wish I had some magic potion to give you that would help but without the test there really is no where to start. Just seems like it would even be more cost effective for them to give you the test now and mayb whatever is not working can be fixed without IVF. Seems like even in the states so many Dr's just want to jump straight into IVF. I have to pay privately so it is not an option at this time. But I am willing to try everything else first but most dr keep bringing up IVF knowing that it will cost 10K USD to just even try. It upsets me that they wont try other methods first so we gotta kinda figure it out on our own. I am similar to you in that I was never preventing from the time I was 20 I knew something was wrong because I hadnt fallen pg but it wasnt until I hit 26 that I really got scared. I wish I would have been more aware of all the issues I was having at a younger age.

Hi there. I was sorry to hear about this injustice and blatent ageism!. I am in a bit of a similar position in that my pct is about to say no to ivf because oh has kids.

One way of getting IVF is egg sharing. Its not everyones cup of tea, and you need to be prepared for the child of your spare egg( if that makes sense) turning up on your door, however depending on whether we qualify I *may* have a consultation. I am not sure on the ethics and ramifications as yet.

Awww i'm so sorry to hear that and I can't imagine how you must be feeling after trying for so long. I've only just started trying and it already feels like a lifetime to me. Keep strong and I hope that your little miracle arrives safely soon.
