any other over 35 first time mums?

When he was five months old he was pretty much fed every three hours and up only once for a night feed. Oh you mean solids...he wasn't on solids until 5.5 months.

Okay as a fitness instructor and personal trainer I would like to offer you girls some motivation. even if you just have 20 min on a day to do something go for it. A walk, then a little walk and 30s jogging, and go from there. Find something you like. Me was dancing so I love Zumba! I don't like Pilates so much but I saw the wonderful results I had so I keep doing it. And don't forget weights, very important as we age. Try to do something different whenever you can so your body will not get used to what you are doing.
I know is hard to find time or motivation but think about your LOs and even though we might be older mommies we can still kick butt but most important have a healthy body :winkwink:.

Keep reminding us!!! I need a kick in the butt! My back has been killing me since giving birth and my knee started hurting 2 months after. I went to the physical therapist yesterday who pulled up my mri and said I had a torn meniscus :growlmad: How can that happen when I haven't done anything physically active since getting pregnant (I was on restriction due to bleeding) boooooo! Hoping I don't have to have surgery and it will heal on its own, but it's hard with the baby to stay off of it. He also is stumped on my back as it won't curve when I try to bend backwards. It is flat as a board and feels like it is going to break if I try to arch it back, so I have to go see a spine specialist. He told me I have to get into some type of physical activity as I am very weak. He also said it's common to have back pain until the baby gets older and we stop doing some of the things that are continuing to hurt our back. I wish I could trade my body in for a different one!!

I can't recommend pilates enough for back pain, I was in agony when DD got to about 5 months, it was actually waking me up in the night my doctor advised pilates and it's been a god send! It's also helped me get my weight down and my stomach flatter than it's ever been (I'm still a chunky monkey but less so haha) xx

I love pilates! was in a motorway pile up a few years ago and it was my saviour! got 2 pre natal dvds yest and my lordy - i couldnt do them if i wasnt pg :) will try the one thats in ten min bursts! my stomach muscles slplit with martha so im a bit worried about how thats gong to go!

i had a word with myself yest and decided i need to stop freaking out that shes too little and just go with it and that means her having a few falls - shes actually fine when she falls just frustrated and doesnt seem to mind the odd bump to the head its just me being a fusspot! :)

we couldnt dreamfeed as martha has reflux shes a contended refluxer tho which is rare i hear :)

Thanks for the idea of pilates - I MUST start doing some proper exercise -- my GP recommended some exercises for my back (but mostly, it was from trying to stretch on a sofa to reach a high window....)....I used to use an exercise bike before LO, but it's in our 'basement' as we put the baby's chest with changing mat where it was in the living room....

On weaning -- our highchair arrived today! (Yeah!); we're very lazy-ish in that we have been feeding LO in his infant seat, but as I want to mix traditional and baby-led weaning, e.g. putting some mashed bananas on the highchair tray, I have only been doing TW -- he loves bananas and apples and hates carrots, but tried some potatoes (mashed) and seemed to like (which is good because it's the national dish of Ireland....)....

As for my body itself, I still feel better than I did a few years ago (I quit smoking before LO and now only smoke a little/outside, wash hands, etc.), but the aches and pains (aside from the back) do make me reach for the solpadeine....!

best wishes

If your abdominal muscles split you shouldn't do Pilates as this (not all moves but some) will make it much much worse! Also, you should all check before you start doing tummy crunches etc as this is going to widen the gap. There are quite a lot of videos on youtube on exercises aimed to close the gap. Now I just need the energy to follow my own advice lol

theres some pilates you can do - ive been doing erin o briens postnatal rescue and theres only one or two exercises i avoid (after speaking to my physio friend) - ive managed to get the gap from fist sized to 2 fingers (altho who knows what will happen now lol) but defo sit ups are a massive no no (altho thats what my gp said to do lol good job i know so many physios)

I guess you will start showing much earlier with this baby :)

Strange girl

I would imagine you could get a Pilates DVD ( I really enjoyed Pilates for dummies - she explains the right form for the exercises and if you want to go easier or harder on the moves). That would not bother your knees and make you mid section stronger. But I would definetely go see a doctor for you back just to make sure you are good to go:). So sorry to hear about your knee. :hugs:

I'm wondering the same thing! J used to spit up ALL THE TIME. Almost every picture we have of him is of him in a bib. I used to lament that anytime I dressed him up in cute clothes when we were going anywhere, that it didn't matter because either he would spit up on the clothes, and then we'd have to change him into not cute clothes, or he had to wear a bib, which totally ruined the look. But he always was so contented...

So, we're back to teething. Two break through, but it means no break for us. You know, I think it would be a touch more bearable if we could tell where it was coming in. Last time we had those little white cysts before the first two broke through, so there was a sense of something happening. You know, like a progress report.

Now he won't even let us look. I feel so left out. I'm just the supplier of drugs and the changer of runny diapers. Bah.

and the supplier of fingers for LO to bite down HARD on (he broke a nail!) ?

(my LO has two in the front and another coming in the back?)

best wishes

ps. LO HATES his new highchair -- I put him in and he just started crying...sigh.....

hi ladies :hi:
as usual things are moving fast here!
LO's cold is getting worse - blocked nose and what it sounds like a painful cough, poor thing :nope: so we haven't had much sleep recently

speak to you soon :flower:

I know! They are so friggin' sharp, aren't they! And they are his first line of defence when I try to figure out where the other one(s) are coming in. I'll try to look and end up retreating in pain.

In the back? All the "experts" (ie. Google) talks about there being an order to these teeth, but this never seems to be true. Is it a molar?

What does your new high chair look like? Any idea why he hates it?

Oh, I'm so sorry. Cold are horrible. Have you tried the Nose Frieda? It was the only thing that got us through the last cold.

Mine is teething too. 3 teeth on a 5 month old! Seriously :dohh:!!! He has being more fussy too and wants to be held all the time!!! I hope he has a break after this one. And I agree on the correct order of teeth coming in is does not apply to every baby. Thiago has 2 bottom teeth and now the third one is coming on the bottom too. Go figure!
