As a mother who formula feeds..

Exactly, and there are all sorts of family situations now. Gay couples, single dads, etc. What a crock of shit.

I think a mom could ingest so many toxins, carcinogens, crap and pass them on through their breast milk.

do you think formula is better than breast milk?

I am saying it is an individual case, and for some formula could be better than breast milk.

You mean in some cases or some formula is better? I dont think its better at all.

For some people, I am sure formula is healthier than breast milk. Do people do studies on every single humans breast milk? No. I know people who eat crap and their babies are so large and cannot move at a year old and have fat spilling out of their diapers and are exclusively breast fed.

Not heard that one before lol Lots of myths about here as usual. My baby was excursively bf for a year and still is at 18 months and sure you can see for yourself he hasnt a pick of fat on him and I am fat. Not everything goes through your breastmilk and your diet dosnt matter.

I will admit the comment about alcohol made me  as well. It isn't the same, and no doctor in the world will tell you that feeding your child formula is akin to a pregnant mother drinking alcohol to get drunk.

I do get the whole "Her body - her choice" bit, but really... I think that was a poor comparison.

Just my 2.5 cents. :flower:

My sentiment exactly. People say "Formula fed babies are pumped full of crap and get fat easily." I don't know of any babies (personally) who have been exclusively FFed. But I know of two or three who were exclusively BFed and they have always been "bigger" babies. Possibly due to their mother's diets. Not that the mother was purposely eating crap food so her baby would gain more weight but just the odd few things weren't really helping iykwim?

I can't support her opinion, because I can never support removing choice over ones own body.
You tell me what the difference is between a law mandating the use of a car seat and a law mandating breastfeeding.

A car seat is an inanimate object.
A woman is a person with the right to autonomy over her own body.
Simples.

breastfeeding prevents obesity ?? plenty of evidence to back that up from reliable sources if you google that. Sure why do any of us breastfeed then if formula is just as good and all the medical research and thousands of years of use was all crap. I dont know where all these words about slagging formula came from in here I havnt seen anyone refer to formula as bad though I hear some are? what articles say formula is crap, like alcohol and the famous one like poison? would like to see them.

Everyone has a right to an opinion. You'd be disgusted with a pregnant woman rolling around drunk would you not? Whats the difference in judging her for that and for not breastfeeding? Its her body, her baby after all.

That is what my comment was referring to. :)

My boobs are mine, that's just the way I feel!!

I love Jake and he's beautiful and healthy. He was back up to his birth weight after a few days and is now a healthy 9lbs 11ozs. Im not worried about him at all and I think he's thriving. xx

sorry I thought they where articles as I heard that a few times in this forum thats all. I do think its important that a mum make an informed decision by knowing facts from both sides.

Maybe I missed them but it is a long thread. Where has someone said its devils drink or similar?

I said it was the devils drink. (Sarcasm!!)

Missy86 has posted a couple of comments that have been made throughout this thread too.

So why would you call it devils drink?

To quite honestly, take the piss out of those who say such things! It's stupid. That's how formula milk is described as. Saying you will question yourself one day if your child ever becomes really ill because you didn't breastfeed. It's ridiculous.

So you think thats what it says, I hear so many accusing breastfeeding mums on calling it that yet I have never heard anyone but people like you refer to it as that. Just remember you called it that. And the health advice is there for a reason not to make people feel bad but to help people choose and make an educated decision on how to feed their baby.

I have heard BF Moms refer to it in negative terms. Perhaps not "devils drink" verbatim, but along the same lines.

I think people need to do what works for them. I tried, it didn't work and so I switched to Formula. I went through a crazy guilt phase, but now realize that I did what was best for me and my daughter. If I ever have another... I'll probably try again. The only difference is that if it doesn't work out for us again I won't beat myself up so badly for choosing to switch to formula.

I'm not attacking and this is an honest to God question... But why get pregnant in the first place if you are so worried about your body not being "yours"?!

What about when your stomach got bigger as your baby grew? After all, YOU couldn't control that, it was LO's doing. Is saying "My stomach is my stomach" different from saying "My boobs are my boobs"? They are still YOUR body parts, but you're doing something incredible for LO.

I fail to see the difference! A baby is meant to have breast milk, but because LO is "taking over" a mom's boobs, that is a reason to not BF?

I think it's more to do with the fact that a lot of women see their boobs as a sexual object. That never really mattered to me, the way I saw it was my boobs are there because they're designed to feed my children. Unfortunately they "failed" me so to speak. Society these days is so highly sexualised, everywhere you look there are topless models, porn etc. I would say a lot of women feel that that is a major issue. I could be wrong though
