Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

I'm SO glad it's not just me than. :hugs: to you both. I am keeping a booby diary as well now. Yesterday went pretty much the exact same as the first day but I did manage to refuse a feed in the evening. So we had 6 feeds yesterday. :dohh: Which is still a lot. And it's hard to say because in the mornings she will constantly switch boobs when we first wake up. For like 20-30 minutes it's a constant switch off. So I don't know if that counts as 1 feed or if it counts as a million like it feels.

In the beginning, I kept thinking I would just let Emma feed till she wanted to quit. But now I'm changing my mind a bit. I REALLY don't want to breastfeed past the age of 3. It's just my 'weird' age. I love that she loves it and I would be happy to continue with one or two feeds for the next year or even more if she cuts it down to just a before bed feed. But this day stuff and morning marathon is wearing thin on me.

At first, my wierd age was 1!! :o

Then it went to 18 months, now I think it's about 4! But I don't see myself feeding a 3 year old! I see him weaning at 28-30 months!

I think half the problem is booby is there, I'm hoping now I'm putting him in his own bed to start the night he'll learn that the booby will be there when he wakes up, so will sleep through! If I can get him to sleep through, I'll feel a lot better at maybe giving him one or two daytime feeds!

Night time needs to be mine again, iygwim? So me and DH can have our grown up time, I think he's feeling a bit pushed out tbh!

My DH will probably feel the same when he's back. I have been sort of half assed about getting Emma into her own bed. Some nights I put her in there, other nights I just put her straight into my bed simply because it's easier. I think when DH is back we will full blown try to get her in her own bed though. Good luck to you guys! Hopefully he'll be sleeping through in his own bed in no time. :hugs:

I can't say it enough, but I am so glad others out there are like me and our situation. I've been starting to feel like a serious weirdo compared to other people I know with kids. :dohh:

Can I ask you ladies a quick question please.

I am still breast feeding my daughter shes now over 8 months but I have suddenly started to massively leak milk. I am still feeding her 5/6 times a day. She hasnt dropped any feeds since I started weaning as she is on the small side. Just curious as to why I would suddenly be leaking again !!?

Haha I know! Nobody I know co-sleeps or breastfeeds past 1! It's not that I don't want him in our bed anymore, I love it, I just feel he is getting ready to have his own bed!

Hmmm sorry, I can't really think of anything that would cause that when you are 8 months in. Could it be that although she is nursing 5/6 times a day she is taking less milk at each feed? :flower:

Cleckner & Jellybean :hugs: I am so glad its not just me too.

I totally agree that the switching boobs for half an hour feels like about a million :haha::wacko: Thats what K does at bedtime. If he only he would then sleep through!

My mum BF me until I was 12-18 months and my sister was 24 months or there about. Mum has always said the night time feeds were the hardest to stop.
My sister BF her eldest until he was 24 months(ish) he was lactose intolerant which is why she went that long with him & they co-slept most nights. With her second DS, who just turned 1, she is combi feeding and he seems to like sleeping on his own. Sister is speaking about trying to wean him off BF now.

I don't really know anyone else that BF, or at least not beyond a few months and don't know anyone else that co-sleeps either. Apart from you girlies on here. :hugs:

I just out LO down for his nap (3 hours late) in his bed for the first time! It feels wierd, he normally naps on the sofa lol!

I haven't posted in here in ages! I've made it to just over 10 months BF'ing now with no plans of stopping anytime soon. We started putting Bella in her crib in her own room when she was 6 months old. It was a bit of a struggle at first, but she sleeps better in there on her own than she did when she was in the bassinet in our room. She's been sleeping 10-12 hours straight through for about 2-3 months now.

I put him in his bed for his nap today, he did not like it...I got in with him and fed him to sleep, he woke after 20 mins and wouldn't go back down without booby on the sofa :dohh:

my lo has an awful cold :( hes not really eating food but is still having loads of booby milk :) but hes starting biting me again!!
only 3 weeks untill i go back to work

awww, poor Miles!

How's it going ladies?

Cleck & the others- none of you are weird i promise! Harry's BF's are all over the place at the moment. We've been on holiday the last week & there were some days where he only had 2 BFs (first thing in the morning & mid evening) & he was STTN no probs, but the last couple of days, he's been a total booby monster & wants it all the time... When he woke up from his nap today he had a really runny nose so all I can think is that maybe he's got a cold or maybe his other 2 canines are starting to make their way through his gums? Either way, i feel like i shoulkd change my name to 'boobie' instead of 'mummy!' Other than that though, life is good. x

Aww I wondered where you disappeared to flora! I even did a search for your name a few days ago because I hadn't seen you around. :haha: I'm glad things are still going good! Emma ramps up her feeds when teeth come in too. Which is made worse because her latch gets lazy when her teeth are coming in and it isn't pleasant on my poor nipples. :dohh:

Well, we will be moving back home in November and I am SO excited but I was also thinking I am so thankful Emma is still breastfeeding. Because I'll be able to comfort her during the trip and transition of being in a new place. I'm moving in with my inlaws because my DH is going to deploy again for 6.5 months. But, it'll be our last deployment EVER because he's getting out of the Navy!!!:dance: I just hope we don't somehow screw Emma up with all the moving that is going to happen in the next few years.

aww, sorry hun. We went to Wales for 9 days for a break; it was lovely (aside from the wet & windy weather), but yep, we're back now so I'll be online again more! Felt a bit lost without internet (couldnt even get phone signal most of the time, lol) so it's nice to be back :)

That's great your DH is getting out of the navy soon. What we he choose to do instead?

He'll be going to school as soon as he can get enrolled for diesel mechanics. He's already a mechanic on his ship now but it's not proper certification that can be used in the 'real world' even though he's done a lot of training through the navy. So he'll try to get a bachelors degree for it I think. And if everything goes according to plan he'll work part time as well and I will try to find some kids to babysit so I can stay at home with Emma still. :D

Breastfeeding is so brilliant to comfort them. My LO was in hospital over the weekend and had to have so much testing done and it was so fantastic to be able to give him the comfort of breastfeeding. Especially when he wouldn't eat or drink anything else after his anaesthetic. I was so pleased that I was still breastfeeding him and was able to comfort him in that way because it was the only thing that worked.

Aw Polaris - hope he is ok now? xx

Thanks Mork, it was a very scary weekend. He had a lot of tests and was investigated for a lot of very frightening possibilities, but thankfully it looks like he is on the mend and that the condition that he has will hopefully start to resolve itself now. I posted a thread about it in Toddler Club with all the details.

Must have been so scary hon, thank goodness he is on the mend now xx

my lil man is 6 months today :) yay we made my goal, now for the next one!!
