Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

I asked Darren earlier did his family ever ask about Alexander as they havnt even been to see him and he is past 3 weeks old and they dont even come in when they in car. Now his sis send down a hat set which was nice and cards yesterday but she has come to see him, the only one thats bothered, Not a card from any of the rest or a word. So my answer was in asking why they never called in to see him was.,,

well they know he is being fed all the time.

Oh so my breastfeeding has stopped them coming? clearly they dont want to see it! I knew that would happen does anyone remember me saying that clears a room when william was little! wtf is that all about! not coming to see your grandchild . nephew, cousin etc because he is being breastfed! will be a long time before he isnt! and when they do come I am wiping a boob right out and feeding him! HA!

:cry:I REALLY NEED HELP LADIES :cry::cry::cry:
:wacko:Tobias has taken to biting the nipple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:wacko:

He doesn't do it all the time. I try putting dentinox on his gums before feeding, in case it is teething causing him pain.... doesn't help.
It seems to be when he has had enough, and his new way of telling me he is finished...... How do I break this HORRIBLE habit of his. I am in so much pain. I have never had pain from BF, so am very un-used to this!

I try taking him off, saying 'No, That hurts mummy' in a stern voice... but he just smiles (I am learning not to smile back!)

PPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

take him off, and say "No...that hurts mummy" in a stern voice as you are doing

AND/OR

take him off and leave him off for 5 minutes, not looking at him or anything, that's what we did with Olie and it has worked, he rarely bites now, it's mainly when he's teething, but it woked! x

The only thing that worked for me was to pull her into the boob when she bit so she had to open her mouth to be able to breathe, and do it again each time until she learned. Telling her no just made her laugh and taking her off made her scream and bite again when she finally went back on!

Thanks both,
I am currently trying the no and keeping him off for 5 minutes. I actually use the pushing onto the boob to get him to let go! So guess I am in the process of using both!!

How long did it take for them to realise biting was bad?

Ladies - I NEED HELP!!!

Ilana has been a boob monster for ages. Whenever I am off work she wants boob all day, and I don't refuse her (she can go all day without it whehn I'm at work). As it's the Christmas holidays I expected her to be a boobaholic again.

She's lost interest since yesterday! Normally from about 4.30pm I let her have some boob, then dinner at 5.30pm, then more boob, then bath, then boob then bed. Yesterday she barely had any. I got a little into her before bed, I then had to go back in as she screamed for ages at bedtime and gave her a little more, and then she woke once in the night for it.

She's just done the same tonight, no real requests for boob today except in the morning when she woke up, not much before bed and even when she screamed again at bedtime and I went in, she just mucked about shouting at me and trying to pull my top off my arms, she seems obsessed with me having bare arms lately, and kept going from one boob to the other without drinking for ages. In the end I gave her a beaker of cows milk and she lay down, drank it and went to sleep.

She is out of sorts and ill, a cold and cough and gooey eye, maybe something with ehr ears as she has no sense of balance at the mo... but she normally loves boob no matter how ill she is.

Husband says he thinks it's because I don't have as much milk and he says my boobs are much smaller suddenly. I have not doubted my boobs since she was small - could it be the reason though? Or maybe she's lost patience and just wants a fasted flow of milk now? Or just her illness?

Any thoughts ladies? She still wants it when she wakes at night but why not in the evening?

Thanks both,

A few days I think... it suddenly stopped - thank the lord!

Yeah, few days to a week I think it took us! You could always try nipple guards while he's learning too, they worked wonders for me!!

becstar, I really don't know, as I haven't gone through this yet, but sending big hugs and hope you find out wahts going on soon! xx

Jaybee - with H I actually shrieked when she did it and it scared her, she soon figured it out. Although she does sometimes get 'nibbly' when she's getting a new tooth and is falling asleep.

Becstar - H is poorly and has been sitting on me pulling at my clothes demanding 'Ma' (Ma-ilk), she signs for it too. She's been feeding about 4 or 5 times a day compared to 1 midday feed. She's also been signing for milk while she's latched, half way through a feed - which I'm guessing means it's flowing too slowly... which isn't surprising given the extra demands. I gave her a couple of inches of moo-milk right after a feed and she drained it.

She's been chomping on toys quite severely and sticking her fingers in her ears, bashing her head... I think she's feeling pretty crappy, she's been crying in a really dramatic loud complainy way and has no patience with not being able to do exactly what she wants. It doesn't feel tantrumy, more sorry for herself.

Maybe La's just unwell too? :(

:hugs:

RE: Biting

Otter went through that phase, too. I would take him off, give a stern NO, and not feed him for 30-60 seconds. If he did it again, take him off, firm NO, no booby for 30-60 minutes.

What actually really was key though, was not letting him do anything but actively feed. I soon discovered, he was most likely to bite at the end of a feed... feeding would become comfort sucking would become play would become biting (all VERY quickly).

So, it got to where I was watch him carefully. If they are actively sucking/drinking their tongue is over their lower teeth and they can't really bite. I would watch for suck-swallow to turn into suck-suck-swallow and then move him to the other boob. There I would watch for suck-swallow to become suck-suck-suck-swallow and then end the session.

After several weeks of this, I gradually could let him start comfort sucking again. Now he can comfort suck/play for ages and won't bite.

Becstar:
Does La have a sinus or ear infection? I would get her checked. Gooey eye is often a sign of sinus infection.... loss of balance is often a sign of ear infection. They often go hand in hand. Either or both of those can be what is throwing her off. :hugs:

Thanks ladies. I tried to get her a doctor's appointment yesterday but I was 15th! in the queue and it's a bloody national rate number and I couldn't afford to wait in line! I'm going to try again today when the surgery opens in 15 minutes.

I'm actually a bit scared in case they say nothing's wrong... then what? !

She fed well this morning and once at 4am. She's mow eating her cereal and raisins and singing, occasionally stopping to put her hands to her head and say 'oh dear!' so let's see what today brings.

we did it, EJ started sleeping through the night, we have had to massively increase his solids in the evening and make sure hes 100%+ full before putting him to bed but hes now going from 9pmish till 5/6amish before wanting a feed then going back to sleep till after 8, its a dream and im actually feeling alive from not being up in the night with him, he did bite for a bit with his top teeth settling in but we are past that for now and enjoying BF
he has stopped taking a bottle of expresed milk though so ive decided to pump for another lady who needs milk donations to make sure i keep my supply running higher than what EJ needs so that he will always come away satisfied

Kayleigh still has the boob a few times a day, even with formula too, thank goodness! Still bfing here!

Alex is a gene carrier for cystic fibroses :( he dosnt have it thankfully but his children may. They done two tests as they thought he did have it. And one of us has the gene so we are lucky neither got it. I wont be having any more any way.

Oh no!! Well, I am glad he doesn't have it! I was quite worried Ollie would have something like that, as we don't know Lance's family history (he's adopted and his birth mum is adopted)

DF *hugs*

In one way it's good to have the info, and by the time Alex is having children who knows where medical science will be :flower:

not only do I have to interview potential daughter in laws I have to dig medical history up lol

Well, I know it's not really making it better knowing but at least he'll know and be prepared just incase his kids are born with CF, It'd be even worse if it was a complete surprise!!
