For those who use jars...

I think Toria meant that people often say they give jars because they don't have time to make anything else but that's an excuse because they actually could have time if they made it... iykwim?

yeah I know, sorry, taking my mood out on people here a bit. Sorry Toria

Things come accross wrong on here, I know from personal experience I've taken a few things too personally xx

I understand what you mean toria, I didn't think you were having a go or anything. I have tried cooking with her there but it's just impossible, I've ruined and wasted perfectly good food because it's boiled over or something whilst I was pulling Grace off the fireplace or the stairs. Maybe she will start napping again and I can give it another go

thats it, if Chloe gave me time I would try again, although I dont think she would eat it, and maybe if we ate properly thins would be different, at least with jars she's getting a varied diet

 I don't think it's hard to find time when you only have one kid, take them in the kitchen and give them a wooden spoon to play with?

Caitlyn has ready made meals sometimes, but I'm not going to say it's because I don't have the time, or can't leave her on her own, because that just isn't true..

Completly true! having 2 kids its hard but its doable! Plus im like a single mum has OH doesnt get back till 9pm so kids are fed cleaned and asleep well before then !

Nope, not anymore, she's too busy miaowing and causing trouble :dohh: I think it may be a phase though

She doesn't need to sit in the kitchen, she can crawl around? You don't have to be there the whole time it's cooking either, pop it on, check on it a few times, take it off...

Anywho, I'm not telling anyone how to feed their kids, Caitlyn had jars all the time for a few weeks when we started weaning, and has some quick baby pasta things now sometimes, all I'm saying is, I thought I didn't have time but now it's in our routine it's easy, and doesn't take much time atall. IMO it's not that hard to find time to do it, and IMO if you want to you can, but that's just MY experience and everyone (and their kids) are different

my kitchen isnt big enough to walk around, let alone let a baby crawl around it lol. Elliot has to sit in his highchair with some toys, or if he wont co operate ill wait till my hubby is home or as said earlier when hes having a nap.

But ill be honest-some days id rather sit down for an hour of peace with a cuppa then do the housework or cook lol

what will i do when hes outgrown his jumperoo and follows me around lol

i have to say i'm with toria, i spend plenty of evenings once katie's in bed, sat here thinking i should be doing such and such, but i'd rather go on bnb. but when i know we're out of meals, once katie's in bed i'll have an evening of cooking and will spend an hour or so chopping up veggies and sticking them in a pan. you can have 4 meals on the go in 4 pans at once so it dont take too long and i can easily cook up a months worth of meals in an evening, its just getting round to it!

I agree with Toria.

I might sound harsh but I dont buy the whole 'who would watch the baby while I cook'. I have an OH but he's not here when I cook. Dont you have a high chair she can sit in and watch you? Give her some crayons or spoon etc on her tray. Or get a play pen? Hevz has 4 kids, 1 toddler and a 4 month old baby and she cooks EVERYTHING from scratch.

I'm off back to work in 2 and a bit weeks and I'll still fine the time

I think I could have when I had 1 kid, but honestly I never even thought about homemade, didn't really know you could lol. I never really thought about it with Casen either, he was only on jars for a couple months before he stopped anyways though lol that kid loved to eat. But Hayden I did a mix of homemade and jarred. I had to think which was better...giving him organic babyfood from the jars (and I always read the labels, if I couldn't pronounce it he didn't eat it) and making the boys their meals all homemade or doubling that to do it all homemade for everyone and really spend most of the day in the kitchen. Hayden had a dairy allergy so he couldn't eat most of what I cooked for a long time so I would have had to make 2 versions. But I do cook almost everything we eat homemade (minus what jars he had) and the boys help me cook, Hayden has helped me cook since before he was a year old just basic stuff and he has his own cabinet of plastic bowls, wooden spoons that he can't hurt anything with that he can get into and play while I cook. I think getting them involved makes them more willing to try new foods as well, the boys love snacking on the stuff while we are cooking and if they made it they def want to eat it when it's done. I will name food after them haha, like the other day me and Casen made some homemade chicken nuggets called "Casen's amazing chicken nuggets" and he thinks that's just awesome and wants them all the time now lol

I give Patrick jars because I want to, I trust what is in them and he enjoys them, it give me more time to play with him etc and besides, im a rubbish cook! I maybe lazy or whatever by giving him jars but so long as hes eating them, enjoying them and thriving on them then i will carry on buying them. Some Mums may do everything from scratch and have more than one child, personally I have one baby and dont want to cook from scratch!

when ffions nursery said i needed to bring her own food (because of her lactose intollerence they wouldnt make food for her) i was too embarassed to take in jars so i made my own  but nobody has ever made me feel too bad about using jars

I think a lot of why we feel 'bad' is because there are so many programs like the Jamie Oliver type thing, where we are told how bad for us things are that we've probably been eating for years. I think it's a media thing.

Im sure there are some mums who physically dont have the time, everyone has different circumstances, and even as adults our diet tends to follow suit with our lifestyle, some people make all of their food from scratch, wheras other rely heavily on convienence foods,

Using jars and not home cooking doesnt make you a bad mum, because if it did then what does that say for everyone who's ever eaten convienence foods and take aways?

I always say I havent got the time to do my hair when in actually fact I just cant be bothered.

 me too ...

My mum cooks all of courtneys dinners and freezes them, if it wasnt for that courtney would have mainly jars too... its fine :)

i use jars for joshua, he has what we have when we have something he can have. (does that make sence?)

yeah people have mad me feel bad.
i know its not the best idea but it works for us.
we eat things like curry and that so obviously joshua cant have that.
he has more variety being on jars.
i would never be able to make him so many different things.

I get what some of you mean about making excuses... I'm not really because the main reason I give jars isn't because I don't have time to cook it's because she enjoys them, I know what is in them and I trust that companies who make them wouldn't pack them full of crap when they know babies will be eating them. But maybe I'm wrong  obviously the other reason is because I don't have the time. I have just finished my dinner actually after putting Grace down and waiting for her to fall asleep so I know I am able to make something quick and eat it in peace lol I suppose everyone is different. She doesn't have jars all the time, just the majority. She loves food, she is putting on weight, she has a varied diet including meat, fish, fruit and veg, some that she gets from jars others she gets through fresh or homemade stuff. I was just thinking about this while I ate my dinner and decided I refuse to let anyone make me feel bad about how I feed my child. I know I don't do it out of laziness or because I'm not willing to stand making more food in the very limited amount of time I have anyway. As long as she gets fed properly I don't really think it matters :) but thanks for all your input girls

I feel like this thread is again making people who use jars feel bad.
I do half fresh stuff, and half organic jars.

Jamie Oliver can shove it. The only ingredient in my jars are exactly what I think is in it. Bananas in a banana jar. Apples in an apple jar.

Oh and I feed Helena curry. She loves it, with some apricots chopped up. YUM!
