is/was your LO a really bad sleeper? support and advise thread!

Last night was in a word.......shite! we had wake ups pretty much every hour or so until we decided it was time to get up at 6.30am. Thankfully daddy took her for 2.5hrs and I was able to go back to bed!
I blame the crawling!!!:haha:
Let's see what tonight brings us:wacko:

Cormac is ill again! He literally just got over a cold a week ago and he's got another one. Really snuffly and can't really breath. He was awake from 2-4 last night, I'm not complaining, it used to be so much worse but I feel so sorry for him :-( Am back to rocking him ti sleep while he's ill poor little guy and he needs comfort.

Obviously not a bad night by this threads standards though! z

Yay kosh that is great! I am so pleased for you! :D Any chance of piccies from the pool? xxx

funny you ask that - I took the camera with me but as soon as I started shooting the pool guard came to say it was forbidden for child protection etc etc :haha::blush: anyway, i managed to take 2 at least! will try and post them

After a great start our night turned out to be pretty mediocre. After an initial 4 hour stretch we had wakings pretty much every 1.5-2 hours for the rest of the night. I think that she was cold but she kept kicking her covers off. It's still too hot here for a sleeping bag. LO sleeps just in a vest as when we go to bed it's still quite warm. By the middle of the night though it's getting cooler so I pull a light blanket over her. She keeps kicking it off though and then I think she wakes up because she's cold. I think I'll try dressing her more and leave the blanket off although then she'll be too hot when she first goes to bed.

these days, that is a good night for us! :winkwink:

----eta : thanks for the diary free comment.we'll keep going. i don't think the wind is what makes him a bad sleeper but i do think it contributes to the 10000s wakings per night

The first 4 hours was great for us, not had such a long stretch at the start of the night in ages. I thought we were in for a good night but the frequent wakings still came later on. However, waking every 1.5-2 hours is still not bad for us so I'm quite pleased overall. Every night I think, this could be the night that she sleeps all night. I should stop getting my hopes up I think!

oh - do you really think 'this is the night'? it's funny, I never think that! it's like I have no expectations whatsoever :haha: at the most I think maybe he sleeps 2 stretches together (ie ~5hr)

Oh dear, LO is definitely not well - 3 lots of watery diarrhoea so far today and rubbish naps. He's constantly rubbing his face and looking tired but won't got to sleep  Not hopeful for tonight if his poor little tummy doesn't improve.

Flippityflop - sorry to hear your LO is poorly again. Seems to be a lot going around at the moment :nope:

What can I say, I'm the eternal optimist :haha: I even imagine coming on here and saying 'guess what? LO STTN!!' I wonder if this thread will still be going when that happens!

Aw I am sorry for the poorly LOs! I hope they recover soon! :hugs:

I also never think this might be the night of STTN but I am always hoping for no wakings between feeds. One stretch of 3 to 4 hours is what I am hoping for every night cause after their 3:00 to 4:00am feed neither boy has ever slept longer than maybe another 2 hour stretch. And I don't think they have ever consented to starting the day any later than 7:30 lol. Maybe that is actually really good cause they are in bed by 7:00pm. So although of course Dom doesn't sleep without stirring and crying every 20 mins till about 10:30 to 11:00, this means they actually do a lil more than 12 hours in bed I guess.
Now if ONLY I could drop back asleep quickly after waking for their 12:30am feed

oh, don't worry whenever that day arrives I WILL be here!!!:haha:

oh, angel, i've been meaning to say somethng and then always forget - you mentioned that your OH snores. Does Dom snore too? is there any chance Dom might also have some type of apnea?i know that you can have sleep disturbances due to apneas

Hmmm, I don't have high hopes for tonights sleep. She went down at 7.30pm and had woken just past 8pm and then again about 1/2 an hour later:wacko:
I'm really tired too and could really do with a half decent night. fingers crossed my fears are not realised!
:flower:

We're in for a bad night I think. Started getting her to sleep sometime after 7, she fought but not badly. She started waking herself up around 8:30 and is now wide awake.

Last night was slightly better than the previous couple of nights. She gave me a block of 21/2 hours sleep, after that it was every 45 - 90 mins, but there wasn't any of the constant sucking going on for hours at a time.

I've felt less tired today, but I've had a stonking headache all day.

Got her second osteo appointment tomorrow, but to be honest I don't hold out much hope of it making any difference.

hmm kosh that is an interesting point! Both boys occasionally snore but mostly when out in the pram or the car seat where they are sorta hunched up. Dom does occasionally sort of squeak with every breath in his sleep so I suppose that might be a kind of apnia. It doesn't seem to wake him though. But you might be on to something. I will do some research! Thank you! :D

angel - my mum does not snore (or not always) but has been recently told that her sleep problems were due to apneas and bad oxigenation (is that a word?). she now has to wear a mask/tubes to sleep  but since then she feels much better. she says she used to wake up loads at night, of course she could go back to sleep almost immediately, but I guess that if something like this was going on with Dom, he would not be able to
don't know,jsut a thought

chocolala - second appointments are usually when they start to feel an effect. don't lose your hope!! :hugs:

Sorry to hear about all the poorly babies, hope they get better quickly.

Lo had an amazing night last night, started to wake just after 9:30 but put herself back to sleep, then she slept until 5:48 to be precise lol

Now if only the same could be said for my sleep, I woke at 1:30 and was wide awake. I fell back to sleep just before 5am :'( typical!!

I did a lot of things differently yesterday so not sure which of them worked so will see how tonight goes I guess! fingers crossed

kosh you might really be on to something as OH has sleep apnea and it might be inherited! He holds his breath and squeaks too! I will speak to our doctor about this! :hugs: Thank you!

Flippityflop - sorry Cormac is ill again. What is it with the bugs atm?!

Firefly - sorry your LO is ill. My LO has also been having the watery diarrhoea. It's been going on for a while now and I had been putting it down to teething at first but I now don't think it is. He's been off his food and not quite himself, plus he's lost weight and has fallen down to the 70th centile from the 91st. He is more active so some of it could be that, but the centile charts usually take this into account so I'm not sure... He's still drinking so I'm not too worried but I have picked my friend's brain (she's a paediatrician, handily) in a semi-casual way just in case (can't help myself :winkwink:). A trip to the GP will be on the cards if it carries on much longer I think. His sleep is predictably cr@ppy (literally and figuratively :haha:) with the constant pooing but there's nothing he can do about it, the poor little mite. I'm almost happy he wakes atm so I can keep shoveling water/milk down him.

Kosh - wow for the walking! That's great! Can't wait to see the swimming pics

Everyone else - fingers crossed for good nights and let's hope all these viruses and bacteria get bored with our LOs soon and b*gger off
