living with kids with allergies group

So I have been keeping a record of what he is eating, his milk & his bowel movements. I plan on ringing his dietician tomorrow as then I'll have 4 full days worth of record too discuss

He is having between 5 & 7 poop's a DAY, sometimes we are getting 4 in just 1 hour!! he is sometimes waking in the night with a dirty nappy too :(

He has gone from sleeping through too waking in the night for an extra bottle and I have let him (I know the dietician will moan about that :() because I figure if he is pooping that much (and they are all full nappies!) then his food must be going through him too quickly therefore not filling him for long

:(

We're doing ok I guess. Katerina had a really nasty virus which lasted for 2 weeks!! Really high temperature, cold, cough, no eating or drinking, was kinda scary at times. She is much better now, but now hubby has got it! :dohh:

Anyway, the antibiotics have seemed to affect her gut and I think we have taken a few steps back, but hopefully she will be back to normal soon!

How are you doing?

Hi all not sure if I belong here but my little guy, Skyler is currently on a lactose free diet/formula and a low sugar diet. He's had chronic diarrhea since 9 months and we're trying to rule things out as per the GI specialists recommendations. We haven't figure out what he is reacting to but my hubby and his family have a lot of gluten allergies and we're just waiting on some genetic testing to tell us if Skyler has celiac or the markers for developing it among other things. Anyone else having the diarrhea issue? Got any suggestions? They're going to try him on a no cows milk protein diet next if his current one doesn't work. We're about two weeks into the month.

:hi: Welcome Kelly.
We havent had bowel issues but I know others have, may be able to offer advice.

Were doing okay, still as we were over summer and before. Were at the dietitian on the 22nd because the consultant flapped that Alex wasnt drinking enough milk but weve since been getting more into him. Dont feel like we need to go but we cant not go :dohh:

Hi Kelly :hi:

Weve had alot of bowel problems, we were told one diagnosis and then another and we still havent got a firm diagnosis. My lo has a cows milk protein, soya, wheat and shellfish allergy. My lo is now on steriods which have calmed his bowels down alot but is was a last resort and we had tried lots of different medications before these.

AG, we had diatician yesterday, was abit pointless really as they just said carry on with what were doing but there just keeping a close eye on him with his weight and that. Back at consultant on thursday so will have to see what he says

^ wow! Thats a lot to be allergic to. We've had much the same a bunch of different diagnoses but his diarrhea seems to have calmed down a bit the last couple of weeks, he was going anywhere from 6-8 times a day really runny yellowy acidic diarrhea and now he's going more like 2-3 times a day with more normal poops and only the odd acidic poop. Though he had a huge one yesterday but he is cutting 6 teeth right now, 4 of which are molars. The dietician called us and asked if I wanted to try giving him milk again (cause she thinks it's a sugar sensitivity) but I said no I'd like to keep going as is for a few more weeks.

We've been bum rash free for 2 weeks! :yipee:

I have a non dairy , no egg, cookie recipe, and non dairy no egg chicken pot pie if anyone is interested :)

Can you post the pie recipie please? Id probably have to alter it so it had no wheat but would still be useful

Cupcake - both recipes sound interesting! I would have to adjust to no wheat as well but should be fine!

Kelly9 - welcome! I'm sorry to hear your LO has issues with his gut. Katerina has also got issues with diarrhoea, excessive wind, bloating and occasionally eczema and rashes. She is allergic to dairy, soy, wheat, egg and fish so far!

Not got much advice other than be patient. It can take ages to figure out what they are reacting to and it takes time for their gut to heal. For us it took about 3 months of very strict diet and daily antihistamines!

I hope it doesn't take that long but I'm prepared to wait. Things seem to be getting better.

ladies, the pie recipe you use store bought phyllo dough, so is there a no wheat alternative to that?
the cookies is regular flour so that you should be able to substitute

Hows everyone doing? Weve got a consultant appointment tomorrow so will let you know how we get on

Hi, I would be interested in those recipes too please Cupcake :)

Can I ask, LO has certain food allergies so should I avoid introducing shellfish into LO's diet until later on? She has been fine with white fish and salmon and loves them too (mind you she loves eggs but cant have them lol)

I'm not sure what to suggest. I'm not sure if the fact that she is fine with white fish is a good sign or if it is completely irrelevant. I haven't tried shellfish yet with Katerina as she is allergic to white fish and many other things so I'm too scared!

Good luck hun! Finally got our consultant apt after going back to the GP, who hadn't even sent the damn thing. Anyway, Dec 14th, got letter yest. :)x

Happy our doc says if there is a higher then normal chance of a serious reaction to something to drive to the childrens park right outside emerg and give it to them in the parking lot just in case!

I should be getting another call from the dietician this week... I really think our issues are lactose related so I think we're going to put Skyler back on cows milk to see if he reacts and if he does back to lactose free and we'll give him regular amounts of sugar to see how he reacts to that since he's been lactose free and low sugar for a month and more now. On a happy note we've been bum rash free for over a month! :yipee: However there have been a few close calls.

how did connors appointment go jemma??

great news about skylers bum kelly9!

I am fed up of the price of the free from stuff, it bugs the crap out of me that they change so much more for stuff when they know people have no choice!!! I don't buy much, just mainly jamtarts/cake for little man since his dietician is constantly on at me too try get his weight up a little and too give him more cake & biscuits & less fruit & veg!

So I have now decided I am just going too make my own, I currently have some cupcakes in the oven (some 'chocolate' and some cherry & saltana), I have ordered the stuff too make him gingerbread people then next week I'll make jam tarts & shortbread

I am going too freeze it all as single and just get him one thing out when I need too, gonna save a blooming fortune!
