living with kids with allergies group

My nearly 8-month old DD seems to have some kind of reaction to tomatoes, yet she does enjoy them and the redness they cause in her cheeks goes away not long after she's finished eating them. Here's a pic of the effect they have. Granted, she does rub them all over herself lol. Do you think this this could be an allergy because she's perfectly fine when she eats them  I don't really want to stop giving her them as she appears to like them, but should I? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks :flower: xx

Tomatoes are a common allergy with babies, if shes reacting from contact rather than eating them then you may still be okay to feed them still. Alex used to flare like that after contact with tomatoes but never caused by a digestive allergy.
You could try rubbing some vaseline over her cheeks before eating and see if that helps?

Quick questions? Is it just me or are your LOs worse after a cold/infection? Katerina has got a cold at the moment - just a runny nose and a bit of a cough, nothing major no infection or anything and she seems to be doing worse when she was so great lately. Lots of tummy pain and her eczema is coming back. I know for certain she hasn't eaten anything that has made things worse!

Sorry fromage frais is a type of yogurt. Like the little kid yogurts. Petis filous?

James is always worse when he is poorly. It's something to do with their immune systems being on high alert cos its fighting the infection. So of course makes the body react even more to the allergens.

Yep Alex does too, we were told it was because the immune system is lowered for the cold virus so its not fighting off the eczema either even if there isnt any triggers for it. We have had to go get antibiotics before to fight it off (the eczema, not the cold)

Lo is alot worse when he's ill. Hes got a really bad chest infection at the minute, hes barely eating as everytime he coughs he chokes. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon

Oh ok we have yobaby and lil ones it's just youghurt made with 3.25% fat. I am thinking I'll call the dietician tomorrow to see what she thinks we should do. I'm so scared to alter his diet since he's down to 2 poops a day and most aren't that acidic diarrhea type though they are still very soft.

Girls! I've got another question for you! Katerina ate 2 tiny strawberries last Sat and reacted to them. Sunday she woke up with a runny nose and a bit of eczema on her lgl. By Tuesday she had 2 bits of eczema. The runny nose has still not gone away but its weird. It hasn't gotten any worse but it hasn't improved either. She has also dark circles under her eyes and her nose seems to be itch and she sneezes every now and then. Could this be allergic rather than a normal cold? I read online that when the mucus is clear its usually allergic, and that's what its like.

Question 2, if it is allergic, would it be from the strawberries or could it be something in the environment affecting her? Why does this have to be so complicated?

I forgot to add she is still on antihistamines daily so that should help!

Thank you! Hope everyone else is doing well!

we had a scare friday night , almost gave LO some jarred fish that I had totally forgotten has egg in it, my husband pointed it out as he was touching it to DS lips, luckily no hive from contact I am assuming cos its cooked at a high temp. just goes to show, constant vigilance, check everything, even if you dont think there is a chance in the world it contains the allergen, check it.

Well! Runny nose is still the same, eczema is probably getting worse and today she also had super flushing red cheeks. I've just realised we got her some balloons about 10 days ago and she's got about 6 of them around the flat at the moment and loves playing with them and I'm starting to think this might be it? Nothing else has changed in her environment. But I'm thinking if she is allergic to latex wouldn't she react to nappies? We use disposable nappies at night and cloth nappies in the day.

Also, she seems to get really bad red marks after her bath and we use a mat like this one: https://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Aq ... ed-tab-3-5 It does go away after a few hours and its on her legs where there is a lot of contact with it.

Lastly, I just remembered when she was in hospital for her endoscopies they put some cream to numb her arms and sealed it with a see-through sort of cover and tape. When they took it off she had horrible red marks on her arms which took a few days to go away.

I'm thinking maybe we should take her to see a specialist who deals with allergies as her consultant at the moment is a GI.

Any ideas? i'm really clueless! Having to deal with food allergies is hard enough!

Im allergic to the plasters that they use to cover canulas plus various medicines. No food allergies though, ive never seen a specialist just my gp or a&e when ive had a bad reaction to a medicine. You could always ask for a referral though, no harm in it

just curious how many of your girls feel the parents need emotional support when their kids are diagnosed with severe allergies, anyone belong to support groups?

Oh definatley need support, I struggled for a long time over Alexs allergies and found someone to talk to about it through here (NatalieW). I havent found any groups that have been active of useful enough though which is why I made this one :)

jemma what are you actually allergic to in it?
my son was hospitalized at 6 months and he had a terrible reaction the sticky plaster they cover the ivs with. he was so red , it was crazy. I thought it could have been an allergic reaction but cant think of to what, he is def not allergic to latex.

I think support groups are wonderful, I am part of one but not for allergies and it's helped to know end with the crap thats been going on.

Skyler has only pooped once in two days... dare I say we've found the culprit? I was so worried that it's been two days that we gave him the "contraband" fruit sauces with all the sugar in hopes it would get his bowels moving but he pooped like 30 mins after polishing two full helpings so I hope I haven't just given him diarrhea. We were toying with the idea of reintroducing sugar just not in the quantity my husband gave him :dohh: I really need to get off my butt and call the dietician tomorrow, I keep meaning to but I've had so much happening.

I have no idea what it is in that plaster im allergic to, they have never tested me its just on my notes not to use those specific plasters. Im fine with normal plasters though so its quite weird. My arm goes bright red and i itch so much that more than once before they realised it was causing a reaction ive pulled it off and wanted to cut my arm off as its been so itchy to the point of being painful if that makes sense.

Ive never been to a support group but theres people on here who have helped me through really tough times i never thought i would get through. God knows how many times ive been stood outside the hospital crying and ive text AG as things have been to much or ive worried about making the wrong decision

I'm the same as Jemma. I don't belong to a support group but people on here have helped me so much. There have been some very tough times and I don't think that people who don't have similar issues can actually understand.

Kelly - glad to hear Skyler is better! :happydance:
