living with kids with allergies group

Hello - can I join? LO is 13 months and allergic to dairy and egg. He has bm twice a day and 2 bottles of Neocate. Tried Pepti first but he reacted to it. We're both on dairy and egg free diets, but I have cheese once every 3 weeks on his dietician's advice. Apparently the occasional exposure through my milk should help him to grow out of it. He just has a bit of a rash for a few days the following week. He was exclusively breast fed until 6 months and did have some tummy trouble (I was eating dairy) but nothing too bad. Then at 6 months I gave him some yoghurt and he came out in an awful rash all over his body. The rash then never quite went away until I cut out dairy and egg a month later. It's hard work keeping their diets interesting isn't it!

Pretty good still, no change really...still on dairy free and limited soya diet. Alexs 3rd birthday on Monday!

Really? Katerina's 2nd birthday is on Wendesday!! hehe :flower:

K is doing ok-ish. She is doing better allergy wise. She has been treated for most things and her eczema has cleared, she has suddenly a huge increase in her appetite and putting on more weight. Its great to see. The only issue now is that she has a lot more gas from all the variety she is having -her diet was very limited before- and if she doesn't have a poo one day we are basically up all night due to the gas. But her therapist -she is also a nutritionist- has explained to me that this is normal because her body needs to build all the enzymes of the new foods so it needs to get used to them. So hopefully we'll see an improvement soon! We have introduced egg and fish so far as well as tomatoes and apples and oranges. So I'm happy with that. Will be introducing more with time.

That's great, is it still that naet thing, i cant remember what it is called, that you are doing?

Well just when we thought things were going good looks like jake has another allergy or intolerance. Not sure what to though. At lunch he has homemade tomato soup and a free from yoghurt, he fell asleep woke up grumpy and was wheezing and had some very watery diahrrea and a bout of vomitting. Iv booked to see his gp on Monday to get access to an allergy clinic as iv had enough now.
Question if your had soya yoghurts and/or milk what was their stools like jake are very pale and very offensive always paste like or runny. Normal???

My LO has milk and soya allergy and his poo's are literally just like water

Went well at the gp's he has referred jake to an allergy clinic without me even asking and has put him on a specialist formula, called prege something. Fx this helps

I was just thinking the same thing, hope everyone is doing ok.

Maria hardly ever gets eczema anymore :) She was getting seemingly random rashes for a while and we finally figured out it was paprika that she was reacting to so now thats figured out she's been great :happydance:

Fantastic :D
Weve been discharged from the dermatologist as Alexs eczema is under control. He does get the odd patches but nowhere near as bad as he used to be.
Hes still off dairy and on soya, but not full time soya as thats whats giving him the odd rash still.

Thats great!
We go back to Maria's allergy doctor in August I think to talk about trying dairy again.

OOH this thread popped back up just when I have a question! :D

How long did your docs say infants can be on hydrocortisone? I apply it to my daughter 2-3x/day (all over) just to keep it barely under control. It's been over a month though, and if I miss a day it comes right back. It's pretty bad too - raised red patches, very itchy, bleeding :( She has an appointment with dermatology but it isn't until mid-august. Can I keep putting it on her until then or is it too long?

5 days :/ if youre needing to use it every day like that then there is something still in the system thats making her break out.
Long term use of steroid creams can cause skin thinning...I dont mean to worry you but I would be questioning sooner than later about the long term use like that :hugs:

OMG! :(

My doc said I could use 1% for 6 months! :( I've been using it for 2 weeks, but taking a day off here and there. As soon as I stop the eczema comes right back. It never really goes away, but at least it gets less red.

She is covered in it though. My son's eczema was nothing compared to hers :(

I don't really know what to do about it though. Apart from dairy/soy what else could it be? Eggs? Wheat/Gluten?I know she has a problem with dairy as OH spilled some milk from his cereal on her leg and she broke out in hives!

ETA: So glad your LO's eczema is gone though! :hugs:

Sorry, i didnt want to panic you but there wasn't any other way to say it :hugs:
Is there anything you have spotted even a slight reaction with?

We found whilst Alex has a full dairy allergy, there were quite a few other foods that were intollerances rather than an allergy, so when he was eating all of them it was too much for his body to handle and he would break out.

The list at its biggest was Dairy and Soya allergy, intollerance to white fish, beans, pulses, lentils, peas (anything in the legume group)

Were now down to avoiding Dairy and everything else in small moderation.

I'd start by cutting out the most common allergens (eggs, nuts, seafood, wheat etc.) and then see how her eczema is and try and figure it out from there. Its hard when you don't know whats causing it, took a lot of experimenting with diet to figure it out for Maria - you're still breastfeeding right? Don't forget to cut out of your diet too. I only had to eat a tiny bit of dairy for Maria to have a reaction.
