LOST: The Final Chapter - discussion/theory thread! **May Contain Spoilers!**

Okay so i read about it and im confused.

Back on the island: Jack woke up above ground, next to the waterfall and all by himself.

Back in L.A.: Jack went into the church through the back. He saw a casket and walked around it once. He placed his hand on it and had his flashes of the island, starting with his opening moment of the entire series when his eye opened after the crash, and continuing through various attempts to leave, being held hostage and finally kissing Kate on the cliffside. He opened the casket and it was empty.

Then he heard, "Hey, kiddo."

It was his father. Jack asked how he was there, and Christian asked, "How are you here?"

Jack realized he'd died, too, and began to cry. His father hugged him. Christian said they were both real, and that everything that had happened to them was real, and all the people in the church were real. Jack realized they were all dead, too.

Is this not the alternate timeline? Cos it says back in LA xx

Yeah I'm not so sure about Jack's son. It seems the only purpose to is was so that Locke could tell him he didn't have a son

I now feel a bit like I did when I finished the last Harry Potter book (geek - yes!), ok maybe not quite as bad but it's that feeling of "now what do I do?!"

Amy - whether you find it disappointing or not, it's still a good episode (imo)

I don't think I could even begin to explain it in a way that would make any sense! When you watching it?

Jacks son tied them to the concert is only reason i can think of.

I am so gutted about the ending it just ended with oh were all dead!!! .. No explanation as to what happened next or anything - so the plane just left and they lived back in LA? Jack died on the island and hurley took over with ben for however long .. and black smoke was no more .... boring :\

Tonight. OH's picking me up from work and im going his at half 4 :) x

I've pinched some comments off the LOST Facebook page........... what other folk are thinking!

Everything on the island happened before the flash sideways. When they all died in the island timeline they were taken to the alternate timeline or purgatory. Penny and Kate and everyone in the church died at some point. Some before Jack and some after. Great ending to a great series. I couldn't be more satisfied.

So many unanswered questions. What was the heart of the island? What was causing the golden light? Why is it that a single rock can somehow prevent the island from collapsing? Why in the hell did it create the smoke monster and how? Why does Desmond have the ability to resist electromagnetism? Why does he have the ability to see into the parallel ... See Morereality? What was causing some of the characters not to age? Exactly why would the man in black kill everyone if he got of the island? Didn't he just wanna get off cos he was totally screwed over by that bitch who killed his mother? I could go on and on.

There was no island--at least a real island--there were no survivors from the plane crash.

a great ending! i don't think ben, anna lucia where ready to leave yet. ben lust for the island, (probably now in charge of it as well), and anna lucia couldn't 'let go'. she took the bribe from hurley, and i think she was still consumed with our world. all the ones that 'passed on' let go of their lives, and built relationships, and found 'true ... See Morehappiness'. in a sense i think the show was giving a two fingers to consumerism. perhaps. let go of everything and you will be happy. jacob gave teh candiates a choice to control there fate free of most forces.

I'm really shocked to see the number of people that interpreted the funeral scene to mean that the entire series had taken place in some form of purgatory (which if that were the case, I could completely understand their disappointment). But my take on it from the outset was that it was only the 'flash-sideways' that was purgatory, or, as ... See MoreChristian put it, the place they made so they could 'find each other again'. An alternate reality that allowed each character to find their way to a sense of peace with themselves and to the people who were closest to them. So in a nutshell, Oceanic 815 actually crashed on the island, some characters died on the island, some left and returned, Jack died in the bamboo forest after restoring the light, some characters ultimately left for good (Kate, Claire, Sawyer, etc.) and some stayed for good (Hurley, Ben). And those that survived - on and off island - lived out their lives to whatever end met them. But when they all eventually passed on (there is no 'Now', as Christian said, so it didn't matted who died when or in what order) they found one another again because of the relationships they had created. They were ultimately waiting for each other in the afterlife due to the importance of the lives they had shared on the island. And the funeral was all of the other characters who had finally accepted their lives and deaths, helping Jack to 'let go' - a recurring theme in many of the flash-sideways stories. I thought it was a beautiful choice for the finale and a brave one as well, as it was left so open to interpretation - and misinterpretation - by the dedicated audience that had followed it. So if you loved Lost but hated the finale, give it some time and thought and another careful watch. I think that the final moments of the show, like the entire series that proceeded them, contained a much bigger story than most people understood at a glance.

loved it a bit scmalzy but some questions arnt meant to be answered i.e the polar bears .i think a biblacle meaning was good cosidering possibilities of bad dreams or thru dogs eyeswere bandied about .i think jacob and the man in black were possible cain and able or the devil and jesus possible linus was sent to hell or still is in purgatory.the ... See Moreisland i thyink was purgatory as lots of people met who they were destined to find and they met them in the real life after a bit of a push together .a great series all in all i have never watched a whole series in my life before this.but this was addictive .dont think jeff faheys character was in church as he was just a pilot in the wrong place at the wrong time as he didnt seem to have a conection to n e 1.

Seriously? The polar bears were brought in by the Dharma Initiative to turn the donkey wheel, thats why Charlotte found their remains in the desert where Ben was transported, if your still really LOST i suggest watching Seanie B's YouTube recaps.

This is how i see things: The plane did crash on the island and everyone on the plane did die when it crashed. Now, them being on the island this whole time was their way of finding their way to heaven. If you notice in the chruch, none of the others including Ben were not in the church, which leads me to believe that the others never existed. And ... See Morethe bond that Jack, Hurley, Kate, etc.... is strong because they didn't want to believe they were really dead, and they needed eachother.
Maybe i'm wrong...But no one i know watches LOST...and i need someone to talk to about it!!!

I know on CTV.ca there's another "The Final Journey" which is a recap/explanation thing. :) Just about to watch the finale now.

its rumoured there are alternative endings!! Hope they show us them!

Just at the part where Sawyer complained about how Jacob didn't say anything about anything (he wants to go find Desmond) and Hurley was like "That's true, he's worse than Yoda"

Made me actually LOL

there's hundreds of questions i have but a couple fro this episode is errrm all of it :haha: a couple though, what was the point of kate sawyer getting on the plane? where did they go? and what is hurley doing there? what was the church thing about? who was jacks son? what was the concert thing all about? and where the flipping eck was widmore? HEY one thing i was right about was juliet and jack being davids parents, what was all the time travelling with desmond, and faraday?

all in all i'm disapointed i reckon the story had been stretched so much because it monopolised so much money for the writers they milked it to an inch of its life and ruined it, should have been condensed alot more and made it les confusing.

kate and sawyer died on th eplane i think, along with the rest of them on it....

the church was a meeting point for them all when they were ready to "let go and move on"

the concert was a meeting place for them all too, to get them all back together.....
Maybe widmroe wasnt there because alot of them never met him?

No idea about the rest!!

Apparently if you are really religious you will understand it better? dunno if that is true!

tonight when daisy goes to bed im going to read read read!!!

one of my friends thoughts!..........

i dont get the whole sawyer as a cop, jack and juliette have a son etc!!! when they were dead did they go into a sureal place where they had to find each other again!!
i need to speak to the shows producers and ask a few questions!! ha
i was thinkin the whole 6th sense thing too but obviously not!! and why was everyone not in the church at the end!! that place should have been packed out!!!!!!!

the religion type thing is if you think the whole island was purgatory

yeah i liked it when they were all realising they knew each other! Thats when i thought it was gonna be good!!!

yeah they died but we didnt see it, we didnt see hurley or ben die either, but Ben wasnt ready to let go so stayed outside the church.

Neither was anna lucia........ the whole purgatory thing makes the most sense i think......

i wonder why Claire would give birth again though........!!!!!

yeah my head is frazzled too!!

I don't think the plane with Sawyer, Kate, Claire etc crashed I assumed they'd safely got off the island. We don't really need to see what happened to them I'd assume Kate and Claire go raise Aaron, Sawyer will find his daughter, Miles and Frank not sure. Would be interesting to see a spin off involving Richard - back in the real world after all those years!!!

The conversation outside the church between Hurley and Ben suggests they had at least SOME time running the island together.

There was no concept of time in the alt - where were Nikki and Paulo though?!

i wonder why Claire would give birth again though........!!!!!

The common factor in them all (apart from Desmond, but he's "special") was the plane crash/flight - so their 'vision' (can't think of a better word) started from there. Dunno!
