Moms of April/May/June 2010 babies thread! :)

Muddles, yay for team pink!! Are you convinced they are right or still nervous about potential bits and bobs tucked away?

Maybe I'd be actively witholding until he pulls his finger out lol!!

Emera, glad to hear things are too different with little girls.....

Modo, that's shocking that they have lost your notes, I guess these things do happen but that doesn't help you. Would it help to sit with your MW and go through it, they might be able to expalin a lot? I've kind of done that with mine and it put my mind a rest a little....

Anyone else doing the strep b test? I paid myself last time and was positive and this time I have talked my MW into doing it..

Sarah, glad you had a good day and hope you get some more of your jobs done while Steve's off. We have a very excitable Will when he see's his grandparent's too.

We finished the chest of drawers last night and just have the wardrobe to go. then I can get organised and start putting stuff away. I bought a two pack of PINK and white polka dot fleecy blankets. They have just gone in the wash for the first baby load, gosh it makes it all quite real.

I have to go into work for a couple of hours later and really can't be bothered....

Hope you all have a good day xxxx

LC: I had Bobby in the private wing of an NHS hospital and I had a consultant not a midwife. My consultant decided to induce me at 39 weeks for no apparent medical reason. His birth ended up with an emergency c-section. This time I decided to go through the NHS (my nearest hospital not the one I had Bobby in) because I didn't like the way I was treated under private healthcare. Every midwife I have come across has been horrified by the reason for my induction and say it was not medically necessary. No body is induced on the NHS under 40weeks unless there is a medical reason to do so. Without my medical notes we will never know why this happened. I really don't want to meet up with my ex-consultant and have him defend his actions, I just want to move on. I feel like I can't get any closure without these notes :(

OH crikey, I didn't realise, that sounds dreadful!! I really hope this time will be so much better, have you read any hypnopbirthing stuff, the Mongan method in particular it's really empowering. I have read it over and over, it might help you feel more positive about this birth xx

Thank you hon:hugs: Yes I am reading the book and I am doing a hypnobirthing class as well. I think it's pretty fantastic!

I did Hypnobirthing it was the best thing i did in preparation for both my labours, it kept me so relaxed! Can't recommend it enough!

Emera  I shall remember to position myself very carefully for nappy changes!

Maybe Sorry to hear your h is being an arse!

LC The three lines were pretty clear and although the guy doing the scan said it wasn't for definite he did say 'that's the labia' so I'd say it's a girl. We haven't got a nursery to decorate, and wont be rushing out to buy clothes so it is just nice to know what flavour we have got, and will hopefully help with deciding names as we can't agree on any!

Modo I think that's a good idea that LC suggested about talking things through with a mw as it may help to put your mind at ease. Hopefully you will have a positive labour experience this time.

Sarah That's really sweet Oliver gets so excited about going to see his grandparents. My oliver gets really excited about going to see his grandparents (H's parents) and would go there every day if he could and he never wants to leave. He likes seeing my Mum but I have a feeling that's more because she lets him sit in her car and pretend to drive so when we go to hers Oliver is at the door trying to get out to the car, and if she comes here then as we open the door to let her in he is heading out the door to her car!

muddles we saw the three lines and she pointed them out but just didn't seem so positive as with Will, to start with I didn't mind not really knowing for sure but the further along the more I want to know and get organised x

Hey all -

Muddles - yay for a little girl! ha ha I would say the only difference between grils and boys that I have noticed is my little madams attitude! but then again I have seen a fair few boys having hissy fits like my little miss! - have you got any ideas on names?

L-C - very cute getting things ready! I have already sorted through all of Amys old clothes to see if I actually need to buy anything new ... and I did go to marks and spencers and buy a very cute set to bring her home in!

Sarah - Amy gets super excited when we go to my parents ... not so much when we go to Daves but she loves my dad - he is really grumpy so I think she sees him as a challenge but he does love her to pieces!

Modo - I really hope your birthing experience is better this time. I did have a good experience with my birth last time but I am really into the idea of hypnobirthing so I might have to look into it!

Emera - glad your getting on so well - how is she sleeping? have you ventured out with the two of them?

Hope everyone is ok. I am still feeling rough tired and headachey seems to be a major virus going round my mum is just getting over it so fingers crossed I will be back to normal soon!

LC I didn't know you could get tested privately. Is Strep b something that will be in your system all the time? I was ok last time, so does that mean I will be this time. I know my friend's little boy was really ill when he was first born because of this, so when she just had another baby she was given antibiotics.

H&F  I have heard that girls go either way- they will either be little madams or they will be as good as gold and you can take them anywhere. I just 'know' which type of girl i will end up with  No idea about names, just like with Oliver (who was named Baby Boy on his hopsital tags for the first couple of hours) can't agree on any names!

I was going to buy a new sling for use in the summer but decided we can manage with the Close Baby Carrier as I did love it. I have just bought a Pacapod changing bag as the bag we used last time was a gift so I felt obliged to use it, and it was too small, didn't have a zip top so you had to hide your valuables at the bottom... I got it from Ebay for £60 and it's BNWT so saving £15 on the shop price.

Keeping my eyes peeled for a buggy board and then we are going to order the carrycot bit for our Micralite instead of using the My3 this time round as it's just too bulky for everyday use and not easy to push one handed if Oliver is walking. We have our Mclaren double (from Ebay that I use when I look after my friend's child) that I can use if Im going to be out over naptime/if we are in a rush or are going to be out for a while.

Think I will get some girly vests and babygrows/romper suits in first size and 0-3 and some new muslins but should have lots of unisex first size and 0-3 from Oliver so will have to wait until we get the stuff down from the loft, to see if we need anything else, will probably do it around the same time as you have LC. The blankets and sheets and things are all unisex so don't have to worry about them then can start buying proper clothes once she is born. We have a full size wardrobe and chest of drawers in Oliver's room so plenty of space for the Oliver and his sister to store clothes.

What about the rest of you who are expecting what are you buying/thinking you will buy? Maybe any recommendations of things you found good second/third time round? Emera anything you have found useful/couldn't live without?

Think we will need to build an extension for all the toys though

There are a couple of websites were you can get the test for free and then you pay about £32 to get it tested, they send you and your midewife the results. It's not always in your system, which is why the NHS say they don't routinely test (nothing to do with budgets I'm sure). I did my own test last time, vaginal/anal swab (last one pretty gross) and then they gave me antibiotics in labour. Def doing it again this time with their help or not. I have a friend who works in a special baby unit and she has been nagging about the importance of it.

I have just ordered two pink baby outfits to take into Hospital and my MIL gave me another 3 pack, so the rest will be the unisex stuff from Will. then as soon as I know it's a girl it'll be shop til I drop. I think we have got most stuff now, just need to stock up on cotton wool and things like that, I'd do that slowly from now onwards. I did buy a new wrap around sling for this time as well as the baby bjorn from last time. Thankfully we went for cream, bedding and blankets, so just news mattresses and a moses basket stand as we borrowed on last time. It arrived today as well as this playmat, which seems to be really good for the money:

H&F post the link for your going home outfit xx

LC I will ask my midwife about it when I next see her then speak to my H about it too. The playmat is lovely. I think I will get a girly babygrow as a going home outfit (but pack a white one too just incase ). Oh yeah will need to buy a new mattress for the cot, newborn nappies, breastpads, cotton wool etc too.

Oliver is really tired today and has been asleep since just before 1, mind you he is still getting over the high temp, snotty nose, cough thing that he got over a week ago, then he seemed almost back to normal then on Friday he got conjunctivitis! Since I started looking after my friend's LO Oliver has been ill pretty much every other week!

Muddles that's a good idea but they tend to put you off because, that's not the NHS recommendation but I have read so much about it that I thought I couldn't not. Here's the site:

https://www.medisave.co.uk/group-b-...-p-7896.html?gclid=CPmkkMzg9a4CFUcntAodPTDKHQ

I talked to my mw last time and she put me off then when the results came back she took it really seriously. I can see their point that although you might have it at 36 wks, you may not at labour and then you and the baby have been exposed to antibiotics needlessly.

It's a personal decision because it does affect labour in that you are tied to a drip and I'm not sure about water and things like that, your options are more limited. She what she says hun.

That's ther problem when they mix with others, after the Christmas break, when Will went back to nursery, we were all coughing and spluttering. Think how strong his immune system will be x

I went for these outfits:

Cute outfits L-C!!

H&F Hope you're feeling better soon!

Muddles its no fun when they are ill all the time is it? Oliver seems to get ill every time we go to toddler group, and then I usually end up ill too. Totally puts me off going

Modo I'm so sorry to hear about your experience and the lost records :hugs: I hope you get a lovely birth this time. Am I right in thinking you have a doula?

Emera you have a VERY cute little girl there! How is Roh adapting to been a big brother?

xx

Sarah - Roh is really sweet with Freyja, its adorable, he offers her some of every meal he has and wants to cuddle her all the time :) On the other hand, he is acting up a bit and the number of tantrums has definitely gone up over the last week, so i think he's missing the attention a bit. I'm doing my best to properly play with him as much as possible though, so i'm sure things will settle down :)

Or it might just all be because he's nearly 2! :haha:

Freyja is a cutey :) OH is cracking me up, i keep saying "i'll just pop her in her basket then" and he's right there going "nooo, i'll take her for a bit" then sits there snuggling her for ages! :dohh:

Awwwww Emera Roh sounds so cute! It all sounds very stress free - I've heard a lot of people say that second babies just tend to fit right in with the family where as of course with your first everything is turned upside down. I imagine having more confidence is a huge thing though. I just remember that when Oliver was small it was an achievement to get up and dressed never mind have breakfast :haha: I think now I'd be more likely to have baby in a sling a whole lot. Either that or really, really hope that I got a baby who would actually sleep in a moses basket, unlike Oliver who would only ever nap on me :haha:

I decided to treat myself today and bought one of those mini greenhouses, with some seeds / pots etc, and I'm going to attempt to grow some fruit / veg / salad. I'm not green fingered at all and I've never grown anything before like that so it could be a huge disaster :haha: But Oliver loves to play out and it will give me something to do outside while he's playing, and of course he can 'help' :haha: I'm quite excited about it arriving now (I bought it all online) Oh, and I bought sunflower seeds so we can have a little family competition (fixed of course )

Sarah: Yes I have hired a doula this time

Emera: Roh is so adorable! I hope Bobby takes to the baby like he did but I don't know if that will happen. Bobby is quite high-needs and doesn't really talk yet. He communicates mostly by reaching out, bringing us things (like an empty sippy cup tells us he is thirsty) and screaming when he is unhappy :haha:

Modo that's good re the Doula, is she lovely? I'm sure she'll look after you :hugs:

Oliver slept in until 9.30 today  It was lovely to sleep in :happydance:

Emera that's so cute about Roh with Freyja.

Sarah your gardening plans sound fun! I fancy growing sunflowers too, but need to wait until H has done our garden as it is still a big mess from when we moved in. Yay :happydance: for a lie in.

So pregnancy cravings hit today.......I am craving alcohol  I know I could have a glass but that isn't what I want, I want 3/4 glasses! Will have to ignore that craving until at least August

Muddles when I went on holiday I was 17 weeks I think. I had a glass or 2 of wine every evening and one night I had about 1/2 bottle  terrible I know but I haven't really drunk at all the rest of the pregnancy except a glass of fizz when my nephew was born and one at xmas  I figure as a one off it wasn't the end of the world!

Hi

I've had the odd glass here and there....but have never wanted to get on it more than this time lol. It wouldn't take very much I'm sure.

Roh sounds so cute, I really hope Will is a good boy when the baby arrives. He is taking a very active part in the new room, spends a lot of time in the wardrobe (voluntarily lol!!!), and even helped with Daddy's hammer on the new furniture!

Sarah the greenhouse sounds great!! I'd love to have one, I was looking at the veggie pot kits in B&Q earlier and was very tempted, we've done courgettes, tomatoes and potatoes before. The tomatoes never worked and so it's put me off.

We've had a nice day today. Will was a superstar at swimming today and joined in with the songs for the first time ever.

Then we have spent the afternoon in the garden, Will spent much of it naked and in a bucket of water - he loved it!!

I'm shattered and have my last four late shifts this weekend, have reduced the hours a bit so hopefully it'll fly by. Then only 7 to go yippeeee.
