Monthly exercise thread!

Hey :) Can I join?

I joined the new gym thats just opened up and have been going for about 3 weeks now, 2 hours 3 times a week. This is the first time I've done any proper exercise apart from the odd half hour on the wii fit etc.

Going off to the gym in half an hour, I've got a good system, me and my friend go in the gym for an hour or so then relax in the jacuzzi for 20 minutes then have a nice shower.

I'm not looking to lose weight etc, just trying to get healthier so my monthly target is going to be 24 hours a month which is 2 hours 3 times a week :D

Next month my OH is joining so I hope to be able to go more.

Hope you girls are going to motivate me though, if I miss one time then its harder to go again and then I stop going hehe

RAFWife - I have a question! How long does it realistically take before you start feeling and seeing results? And how much exercise do I REALLY need to do per day to lose the amount of weight I'm wanting to lose? (3 stone at least). I'm doing the Nell Mcandrew Ultimate Challenge Ultimate Results dvd and it's hardcore cardio workouts...JESUS I'm actually drenched in sweat right now. Sorry to sound so OTT but I'm not used to this!!

Seeing results will vary between individuals, so it's hard to put a time limit on it.

Ideally you should be doing 30mins-1 hour of exercise 3 times a week. I wouldn't recommend doing your DVD more than that as part of getting fitter is giving your muscles a chance to recover. We only get fitter during rest periods, not during work periods and it's a common misconception that you should be working out 6 times a week to see results.

You can work out more than 3 times a week, but it's only really recommended for people who are in consistent exercise, or if you are just starting out then you should focus your training so you are only working specific muscle groups on certain days. ie if you go running on a Monday, then you should look at crunches, planks, tricep and bicep curls, etc on Tuesday. Basically focusing on more resistance based and upper body exercises, then Wednesday go running.

So as your starting out, and your happy with your DVD for now then I would recommend you do it 3 days a week with a day rest inbetween each session and try to keep going for 30mins-1hour. As a beginner, if you do this then you should start to feel fitter and notice inch loss in a few weeks. However you need to make sure you are eating correctly too, as giving your body the right fuel will mean you see better results, quicker.

Hope that helps :)

That answered a lot of my questions too! Thanks rafwife!! xx

Welcome hun :)

As a beginner you will see results quickly as your body goes from no exercise, to structured exercise. So the improvement level is a lot bigger. However the fitter you get, the more you will plateau and need to keep working on a new routine to keep seeing results. That will be a ways off for you guys yet though, just remember that you are in the fab bracket of people who will see results quickly

God, I'm feeling so awful right now (but more motivated)
My 2 year old just asked me to 'dance' with her (this involves jumping around like a looney waving your limbs about and laying down and jumping up etc) anyway, after a full 3 minute song of it I was so exhausted I had to sit down and she was crying and begging me to keep dancing with her :(

I want to be able to dance with her as much and as often as she wants!

I have to do this for HER and for her sister!

Ooh Kte, I like the ticker idea (and may well steal it and make my own!).

Does anyone know if there is a 'best' time to exercise?

Hiya,

I hope its not too late. I want to start and I would like to do 16 hours of workout this month.

I will try and combine gym and at home dvd exercise together.

It's not too late. I'm closing the on time sign up's at 12 midnight mountain standard time. (I live in the US) so We still have about 9 hours.

Katie - hahah yeah, me too. I wear a regular bra and a sports bra and they still try and escape. :dohh:

I am so in, I need to work out as much as possible. I really need to lose this baby weight, along with the lazy weight.

I'd like to do 30 minutes of anything active the first week, and 45 minutes the second, and 1 hour for the last two. i am going to get some stuff to help me out tomorrow... Great thread idea! Support sometimes can be key to success... :)

That adds up to 25 hours and 45 minutes this month!

Well I burned 407 calories today. My target daily is 300 so that's pretty good. I also deep cleaned the house all day. I'm not counting it towards my goal but I know I burned some extra calories there.
