The mini isn't as small as people think- its only a couple of inches small height and width wise than the normal iPad- still at least 4x times bigger than an iPhone so no point comparing it to that.
That's the only thing I'd say about the mini, I wouldn't give it to my daughter, she has the 3 and its certainly clearer.
3! Shes been confident with these things since she was 1 and has really helped her! I had a 1 but with the iOS6 upgrade (it has Guided Access that helps children with special needs) the iPad 1 didnt support this , so I traded it in for a 3.
I still want a mini though
