I am planning on painting our nursery sometime in the next few weeks but I wasnt sure if it was ok to do while pregnant. Does anyone know? Or are there certain kinds of paint I am supposed to buy or anything?

well we just painted our kitchen so I hope so lol!!!

I just make sure I use low odour paint

If you're planning on painting, you'd most definitely need a water-based latex as it's pretty much odourless. I've done quite a bit of painting since becoming pregnant, but I wore a mouth-mask and long gloves to be on the safe side.

Also make sure that you crack the window or do something to keep the room well ventilated.

Happy painting! :)

I think paint was only a real problem when it was lead-based or whatever they used to use in paint. As long as the room is well ventilated I think you'll be fine... I am after painting my room whilst pregnant. Oo also get someone to do the high bits for you so you don't have to stretch or climb (although I got a friend to do mine and he made a right mess of my ceiling :growlmad:). xx

i dont know to be honest, but i know that the night before Abi arrived i got an urge to paint and finish the nursery so i spent all afternoon painting and all night wallpapering lol, and she was fine :)

We are planning on moving before the LO arrives and I was talking to friends about painting. I was told that I needed the low odour paint, windows open, bare minimum cracked, and not to go up on ladders or stools because of the possibility of dizzy spells, so other than that I still have plans to paint, just now it's with some help.

I would just wear a mask to be safe! x

We just painted all the wood skirting boards in the nursery. I had the window fully open and most other windows in the house too. The paint fumes didnt get to bad that way.

Take it easy though and dont over do it, i think i done to much and ended up having back pain the day after.

Thanks everyone! My hubby will be doing most the work :winkwink: not that he knows that yet, but I wont be doing the high places or overworking myself. Thanks for all the tips, the babies room has 3 windows so I will open all of them and wear a mask. I cant wait to get his bedding so I can go buy the paint!!
