I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was like 21 so I've known I have it for a long time. The only time I have regular cycles (or a period) is when I'm on birth control. I'm "morbidly obese" according to doctors but there's really nothing I can do about that. I have a thyroid disorder and PCOS and I'm just honestly....fat. It's who I am. I'm active and I eat very well but I just can't lose weight. I lost about 100 lbs with surgery (pretty much gained back now) and still no period without BC so if your doctor tells you it's your weight, they could be wrong. Some women just have PCOS no matter their size. I think I developed it when I was a teenager judging by my periods at that time. Weight is definitely a consideration but don't let your doctor tell you that losing weight will fix it. It does happen obviously but not always. I've been very fortunate with my doctors but if I had one tell me, well you just need to lose weight, I think I'd ask them what treatment they provide thin women with PCOS. Or I'd leave and never come back.
Anyway, we've been kind of not preventing since we got married in September but because of my husband's school schedule and some health issues for both of us, we haven't been BDing a lot. I think we're about ready to actually start trying and so maybe I'll try Vitex! I've even been on Metformin and that didn't work either. It just made me feel sick all the time.
I love hearing these success stories too! It gives me so much hope!!
