Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Hi Davies. I saw a private consultant when the tests were all normal and he said there are still a lot of things about blood that they don't understand so he wanted to try me on heparin anyway. The NHS refused to fund it until the Lupus was proven so now I get it on the NHS (it is bloody expensive otherwise!). Private consultant has also prescribed steroids for NK cells (in case I have high levels) and NHS won't fund these (but they're relatively cheap so it's ok!). See what the consultant says and if you don't like the answers perhaps ask to be referred to St Mary's in London. They seem to be the best.

Is that private st marys? Also hope u don't mind me asking how much did you have to pay to go private etc? X

St Mary's is NHS. Shall I PM you the address etc? You need to get your consultant to refer you and then it is about a 6 to 8 week wait. You could see the consultants there privately which I recall costs about £180 to £230 for appointments and then more for tests etc. My health insurance covered me up to £1500 for diagnostic tests so I was lucky enough to be able to go private. I am now on the NHS system too though as they eventually offered me an appointment.

I do have private health care through my work but it doesn't cover fertility but I wonder if the tests would be if detailed under something else!! X

Sorry to jump in here, I keep an eye on this thread and I am sending love and hugs to the ladies who are suffering again.:hugs:
Not quite sur how to deal with my situation?
My doctor refuses to refer me as I have had 2 mcs, does anyone know the "rules" regarding this?
Everything I read says 3 mcs but if you are over 35 they should refer after 2?
I had my 2nd mc on my 37th birthday, I have paid to see a private consultant and I am currently privately organising a progesterone test and tests for APS.
I just cannot afford to keep on doing this?
My DH and I both work and have paid a fortune in taxes, just think that as I am over 35 I really should be referred?
Maybe I'm just being selfish?
Has anyone else had this or can they give me any advice on what my next move with the GP is.
Thanks again and :hugs:

hi girls, OMG I AM SO ANGRY!!!!!

I requested a progesterone test from my doctor when i found out i was pg at 4 weeks, she refused me the test as she said she wouldnt be able to interpret the results.....i was a bit peed of with this because i thought i may suffer low prog with me being 35 and suffering from bloat etc in my early pg's and having 2 unexplained early losses already (all my tests came back normal).....but thought never mind she knows best. Well when i went back a couple of days ago as i was worried i was spotting i asked her again about a prog test and she reluctantly decided she would do one. I have just got my results back and at 5 weeks my prog was only 4.9!!! So it looks like i do have low prog just as i thought and if i was tested at 4 weeks then this would have been recognised and maybe i would have been given meds and my baby could still be here! ohhhhhh im gutted, bloody incompetent NHS gp's, im starting to lose faith in them.:growlmad:

Ive now been referred back to my m/c specialist so that he can possibly write up a pregnancy plan which will hopefully include some form of progesterone....

Does anybody else suffer low prog and do you think my level sounds low or am i going mad? from my research i think it should be around the 20+ mark at this stage.....

Rant over girls, sorry about that......

LeeC - oh im so sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with you right now babes xxxxxx:hugs:

Babyhopes2011, I dont blame you for being mad I would be damn right furious!!!!!
From my knowledge loads of ladies seem to have this problem, many of them seem to use progesterone as the docs will not listen, so they often self medicate.
The problem is docs seem to argue that low progesterone is a sign of a failing pregnancy and they believe progesterone will just prolong a mc.
Well one of my friends had 6 mcs and she demanded, (she is a strong lady!) progesterone and guess what??????? Yep she had a healthy baby!
Depending on how you are feeling I would really consider complaining about your doc and discussing with consultant a plan of action for future pg.
I am so very sorry for your loss, be proactive and take action!:hugs:

Thanks madmax......i am definetly writing a letter of complaint. My mum used to be a nurse for the NHS so she knows all the ins and outs of complaints so is going to help me compile a letter. I have been researching and yes it is true that progesterone can prolong the inevitable but if my levels are low to start with then the baby has no hope from the beginning so i feel its time i took a stand and stood up for myself and if it dosent work then so be it but it is well worth a try...... i just wish she had tested me at 4 weeks then we could have compared the results......ugh that doctor will feel my wrath when i see her next

Oh thats fab news about your friend.....im hoping that will happen for me too now!! yaaayyyy! Defo worth a try me thinks :happydance:

Good for you sweetie, some docs are just damn useless and have no feelings at all. The problem is they are not experts in the field of mc and lots of consultants disagree! I know my progesterone was low, I had no ovulation for 3 months prior to getting pregnant (major stress!!!) I take agnus castus now, my lovely accpunture lady (as you can tell I think she is amazing!) advised me to take it to regulate my hormones as she is convinced I had high prolactin levels due to stress that stopped me from O. High estrogen and prolactin lowers progesterone!
Maybe TMI but I had severe (.)(.) pain throughout my whole cycle, periods weren't painful anymore so she def said I was not ovulating (doc said cycles get shorter as you get older!) Yes doc they do if you are not O!!!! The first month I took AG I felt better, just think I fell PG before it really had the chance to work!
Not sure if you are like me and into the natural approach, but have a look on Marilyn Glenvilles webpage and the Natural Health practice, it's not cheap but DH and I have gone on the 3 month plan. She is highly regarded in her field.
Just a thought, glad your mum is clued up sweetie, I am sure it will help your state of mind to make your point heard.:hugs:

Looks like bad news for me too. I had another scan today following last week's and the small 2mm area in my womb hasn't grown so i'm having betas done now just to confirm. Bit sad but honestly not having my heart ripped out with grief as (1) was so early anyway and (2) just can't expect good news after all i've gone through

Oooo LeeC and Holly I am so sorry to hear things are not looking great.

absolutely you both should feel free to rant/rave/melt down here cos if anyone understands we do!

Davies... my consultant has me on 5mg folic acid, 75mg aspirin and if I am pregnant 800 mg progesterone, heperarin... hope that helps.

Lee and Holly sorry to hear that things not looking good.
I have had results from chromosone testing after pm results for Zac and all came back normal.

i'm very very sorry Holly and LeeC! I really believed that prednisolone is "miracle peal"and have good hopes about this treatment. I don't know what else to say -Be strong along with my virtual hug.

It's very interesting.Read all of it.....

Nooooooooo! So sad to read Lee and Holly's updates. Thinking of you girls xxxxx

PS - I know I said I was on a break from the site but I'm in need of some advice as currently experiencing VERY unusual period - I've put a new thread on the main forum bit so if anyone has a minute to read it and offer an advice, I'd be really grateful. I do acknowledge though that I might be being totally ridiculous!!!!

(I'm not being cryptic, just think it would be insensitive to put the details here given some of your current experiences). Thanks ladies! xxxxxxxx

Leec and Hollybush., so sorry you're both getting a virtual hug from me too., Lee, we're all here to support each other, you sound so exhausted sweetheart.... there is a reason for all of this, I think Dr Q was on to something when she remarked your longest pregnancy so far was your ectopic, I'm a bit hazy with remembering the instructions about when to start the prednisilone, since I never actually got round to having them prescribed, but are some professionals keen that they are taken from ovulation so as that the enviroment in the uterus has been seen to by the steroids before the egg actually begins to implant., I remember you getting your bfp and then you needed to wait a few days before your prescription came through...
Remember you will be more fertile in the next few months and you have those steroids at hand., this is a battle that I'm sure can be conquered...
Rest up and be good to yourself.....xxxxxxxxx

LeeC & Hollybush75 - so sorry to hear that you're both going through such a sad time, my heart goes out to both of you.

Well it is definitely over for me. I started bleeding in the early hours. Having lots of bad cramps as well. I rang the hospital as I was supposed to be going for repeat betas, told them I'm losing and I wasn't going to be there for the repeat as there was no point. Then they rang me back four hours later saying I must go in to have the betas repeated to see what is going on....but I'm not going...... HAH! There is no point. I know I'm losing so what good is having blood taken going to do. Sweet FA that's what!
