Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Hi guys, Im back to join in for this cycle too if you'll have me. :flower: Now doing TSI with everything under the sun. :dohh: After 2 m/c's, all the testing in the world, DR for 6 weeks to get rid of endo and DH managing to get his sperm count up from the floor (6mths of no drink, no smoke, no sports, best vitamins - dna frag great now too ), we are doing TSI with everything. Prednisone, Lexapro (for anxiety and to balance out the steriods) aspirin, clexane, intralipids. I've been on everything for roughly 9 days now. They found anti-thyroid antibodies and anti-tpo antibodies in the last test -Ten times higher than should be. Doesn't surprise me as I had years of arthritis until I changed climate for a few years. :happydance: Had intrapilids yesterday. Have 3 large follicles and triggering tomorrow, BD on sat. So scared it won't work and scared it will work and m/c again. Scared of just about breathing right now. It's taken us the guts of 2 years to get to this point and suddenly here we are, doing something and Im freaking.

Thanks guys, I just needed to share that and I know you guys understand the fear.

holy moly - that is awesome, you really are doing everything there! i can't wait to find out how it all pans out - should be bfp this time and stick! i'm getting closer to the 2 year point too and just accepting the fact that i will need to be on prednisone and lovenox next time just to see what happens at this point...I'm freaking about it too.

me: 35 mthfr (A1298C hetero) other than that, fine
DH: 33 fine

4 m/c, first in march, 2000, 3 in past 15 months, all unexplained and in weeks 5-6, 1 bfp was with clomid/ovidrel/iui
3 rounds clomid w/ovidrel total

well after having my 14th loss recently I have decided not to ttc, the hardest decision in my life. but for right now. I Know it is the right thing.

so sorry to hear that 9babiesgone - it's such a hard decision to make. i don't even know what else to say but have tears now and wishing you all the best.

Hi ladies,

I posted this in the assisted conception thread but wanted to seek input here too.

Has anyone done IVF with preimplantation genentic diagnosis (PGD) after recurrent miscarriages? What was the outcome?

Here's my story:
me: 30, DH: 40
TTC: 2.5 years
PCOS, MTHFR
*June 2010 BFP (clomid 50mg) - 6w4d scan HB @135 bpm; MMC discovered at 12 weeks (baby stopped growing at approx. 7.5 weeks); D&C
*December 2010 BFP (clomid 100mg) - 6w3d HB but small gest. sac; 8w2d scan no HB; natural miscarriage 8w5d
*July 2011 BFP (Femara & IUI) - 6w3d scan empty sac; 7w2d scan HB @ 120 bpm but super large yolk sac (13mm); 8w1d scan showed no HB; miscarriage 8w4d

For my second and third pregnancies I took low dose asprin and pogesterone (my progesterone numbers have always been fine but took just in case). The third pregnancy I added Lovenox.

My RE has suggested IVF with PGD (whole genome analysis testing for single gene disorders and chromosome problems of all 23 chromosomes) would give us the best outcome. We're planning to start the process at the end of this month. Just curious if anyone else has gone through the process - I'd love to hear your story.

I tend to respond well to meds so I'm sure I'll produce a lot of eggs I'm just worried that PGD will find that they're all abnormal ...

Wow RGN that's a big expensive leap. So sorry to hear of your losses. That's a really tough run. All fingers crossed the next one sticks for you. Have you done the recurrent miscarriage blood tests yet or the chromosomes blood tests (both partners) and y-deletion (just male)? They run a few hundred euro here (Im in Ireland). Couldnt they try you on steriods in case you have autoimmune issues? Have you done any of those bloods tests? antibodies or chicago bloods? Maybe your RE has some good reasons but it just seems like a huge leap to pgd. They can do IVF/ICSI now with something called IMSI, not half as expensive as PGD but is more detailed look at the sperm than it is for just ICSI on its own.

Thanks Hopeful, I appreciate the vote of confidence, I really do. I will keep the thread posted on how this goes. :hugs: The prednisone isn't so bad but I had it one day without the lexapro and I was manic, took me hours to figure out I'd forgotten the other pill! Also Im getting to sleep ok but waking, wide awake and twisting and turning then at 5am every morning (DH not too happy about that!) Shattered in the evenings!! It's been a long road through 2 private clinics, the first one wanted us to do ICSI with no meds whatsoever. Wouldnt even give me an aspirin - after 2 m/cs!!! Thankfully the one we are with now was on a different wavelength and Dr willing to throw the kitchen sink at this. I will :kiss: every inch of her feet if this works.

Thanks for the input Gill. I had a full recurrent loss blood workup after my second loss (which is when we found the blood clotting disorders. In addition ti MTHFR I have PAI-1) but I don't know what, if any, chromosomal tests were included, I'll ask my RE (I have an appointment on Monday). I'll also ask about the autoimmune issues. And thanks so much for mentioning IMSI - another question to add to my list!

I agree is is a big step and I feel like we might be jumping the gun a bit but, that said, if we ended up here in a year or two after more losses I would kick myself that we wasted time. And I want to do whatever will give me the best chance of having a healthy pregnancy ASAP, which I think is why my RE suggested this option. It's just really hard to know what to do. Our insurance covers most of the IVF costs so we only pay for the PGD so that makes it a more appealing option.

Hi RGN.

After losing 6 babies all at the 11 week ish mark (though they probably died earlier than that) I have been told to have either ED or PGD. I have a translocated chromosome in one of my X's which unfortunatly appears to be lethal to male babies. My consultant believes all of my babies have been boys and tests on my last 2 confirmed this.

After much thinking and due to my age (39) we have decided to play it safe and go for ED rather than PGD as there is a rare condition which means that the ovaries will only produce eggs with that genetic flaw.

I have heard great things about PGD. But as we are self financing we have to make sure we give this the best shot we can and that means not using my eggs.

Good luck in your decision.

Hi Ladies.

Just dropping in quickly. Hope everyone is ok, I will read though the thread and catch up on everyone soon.
I'm afraid I've been pre-occupied as one of my darling pooches is seriously sick and I'm nursing her through cancer and high liver enzymes.
She's been my substitute baby for 8 years and it's breaking my heart watching her go through this.

I suppose this is not the right forum for this but I'm just hurting and wanted to vent and I know how good you ladies are on here.

On a more relevant note, at last, I have managed to get a date to see Shehata, after not being able to make my last 2 appointments. I am seeing him on 8th November, so only 6 more weeks or so before we can TTC again.

Sendings to everyone and hope to catch up properly soon.

xxx

Afm im 9dpo no preg symptoms!! Dont think this is my month no preg b4 30!! Boohoo xx

Hi ladies!

Well it's taken me a while but I am proud to say I have finally read through all 402 pages on this thread!! You ladies are so brave and inspirational and you never give up I think each and every one of you is truly amazing!

Im 30 have no children and have just had my 3rd mc in 6 months! At the beginning of the year I thought 2011 was going to be a fab year but it's gone downhill ever since! My first 2 mc were at 8 weeks and last week I had one at 6 weeks. All natural mc.

I had a few basic blood tests as my gp after mc 2. I can't exactly remember what I was tested for but it included blood clotting disorders, thyroid and infection. All came back clear. I also had my progesterone checked 7dpo and that was fine.

Does anyone experience mid cycle spotting? The first half of the month I am fine and then 2dpo until my AF or a bpf I seem to spot very light brown just when I wipe. I'm sure this has something to do with the egg being released as it always starts just after ov but the gp wasn't sure what's causing it. Anyone else have this?

I'm seeing my doc tomorrow to get referred to a rmc specialist so hopefully they will be able to find out what is going on.

I wanted to say thankyou to everyone that posts on this thread because you have given me hope and also armed me with a list of qu for tomorrow.

So a HUGE thankyou and good luck to everyone!

hi ladies, just went thru my 4th chemical pregnancy and dont know how to cope. I'v e gone back on my antidepressants which I had stopped while ttc. i'm at a loss and so sad and confused. i don't know how to move forward.

Hi girls.

not a nice thread to join but I thought I am coming in to say hi anyways.
On Friday I had my first early MC. Of course it is annoying like as I have to wait another month now but I am not that sad as I am glad I can even get pregnant if you know what I mean. It was the first time conceiving as well. I just hope it doesnt become common that I have another one. What is the cause of MC anyways and what is the difference between that and chemical pregnancy?

I had my 2nd miscarriage today, both were at 5 weeks. I am feeling very low and not helped by the usual comments "it will happen for you one day", "it was just not meant to be", "there was probably something not right with the baby", etc. I text one of my friends today telling her, and she text me back telling me she has had a bad day too at college!!!!

I'm so sorry Shirlls. Can you seek out testing at this point?

Have you not tested yet Davies? You are truly hardcore if not! Good luck.

Hi Bumpy. Sorry you have to join this thread. As far as I know mid-cycle spotting is caused by the egg rupturing the follicle and causing some bleeding. This can take a few days to make its way out your body so it is likely nothing to be concered about. If you are concerned then perhaps ask for progesterone although I don't think this is the problem (but I am not medically trained - more of a self-taught miscarriage expert!)

hi ladies, just went thru my 4th chemical pregnancy and dont know how to cope. I'v e gone back on my antidepressants which I had stopped while ttc. i'm at a loss and so sad and confused. i don't know how to move forward.

Mpepe - so sorry to hear of your recent loss. I think the anti-depressants might be a good idea for a while until you feel emotionally stronger. Have you been tested for NK cells? This might be an idea for you if not.

Hi Janine. So sorry to hear of your loss. A chemical pregnancy is one that occurs before you reach 14dpo (4 weeks pregnant) so many women have them and don't even know as they don't test early enough to detect the rise in hormones. I know this is not what you want to hear, but 1 miscarriage is very very common and there is every chance you will have a successful pregnancy next time. This thread is mostly populated by those unlucky few who have suffered recurrent losses (3 or more) so I wouldn't want you to panic unneccessarily at this stage as I hope you don't go on to meet the recurrent criteria (as determined by GP's not me!) Good luck with TTC and I hope you conceive again soon and that it leads to your take-home baby.

Hi Shirlls - So sorry for your loss. I don't think people can even begin to understand the heartbreak of a miscarriage unless they have been through it themselves, so I hope you find the support you need from your partner. If you are in the UK you might find your GP will not test for problems until after 3 miscarriages as they aer sadly so common in the 1st or 2nd pregnancy. For what it is worth, I know LOADS of people who had 2 miscarriages and then had a third successful pregnancy with no problems. Good luck to you.

As for me, I am today 8 weeks pregnant and still TERRIFIED. I had a scan yesterday and baby was fine with a lovely beating heart but the panic will creep back in by the end of the day I expect. If I can make it to 10 weeks then that will be my furthest so I might stop worrying for fractionally longer. I am however fat as a house from the steroids (and cakes!) and black and blue from the heparin. I would however continue with all this for ever if it means we get our baby.

Hi Lamb, thanks so much for your reply. thats a good point Ill definitely ask that. Would it happen for 10-14 days though as i seem to get it from a couple of days after OV until my AF or BFP. seems a long time to get spotting for? I have a private consultation booked for Sat so this will definiately be one of my questions!

Whoohooo 8 weeks - well done! Good luck to you!
