Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Hi ladies. I am new here and trying to find some friends :). I've had 2 losses and am currently ttc :).
I have an appt next month to discuss fertility options and test with my doc. Does anyone have any suggestions on testing or questions for my doctor? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
- and puppymom- so incredibly sorry for your news.
Thanks ladies-

Hi Kat - I am so sorry for your losses. I'm in the same boat - TTC#1 and we've had two mcs. We're just about done with the recurrent mc testing - have the last procedure tomorrow, in fact. If you look thru the first page or two of this thread, a few ladies have posted lists of the tests that are pretty standard. For me, it's been a ton of blood draws and tomorrow they'll have a look at my uterus looking for fibroids and septums and the like.

PS - are you in the midwest of the US or the UK? If it's the US, where are you? I'm in Indianapolis and could recommend a great dr if you're nearby.

Hi HappyAuntie :)
Im in the US. I have a doctor here I love and a specialist I may go see soon. My last mc was in December, and I was so devistated, I decided to take some time off of babymaking.
Now im more than ready and have an appointment set for early July. Is it wierd to be excited to go to the doc?! I know its weird cause obviously I have something wrong, and can not carry a pregnancy (so far), but im mentally ready!
I've been doing a lot of researching and have a list of questions and tests to go over with my doc. Hopefully she's ready for this! Lol...
I hope your testing helps you keep your lil peanut next time around. Its a lot to have to go through all of this, but well worth it in the end. Im glad to have some support here :)

Well I am back from the recurrent m/c appt, all my previous bloods were close enough to normal so unlikely to cause m/c, she's taken more clotting ones, coeliac and glucose blood tests.
Sooo hoping one of them comes back dodgy if that makes sense.
As soon as I get a +hpt I am to go to the early pregnancy unit to have hcg bloods done and I will have an early scan, if everything's ok I'll be referred back to RMC clinic to discuss heparin. I was given baby aspirin away with me to take when I get +hpt. Got preg symptoms again so hopefully we'll get a +ve test and this time they'll be able to stop me m/c'ing.

Fifi-
Im sorry for your loss :(. I hope they find some solution for you and u receive your peanut soon!

Hi

My name is Elizna, I’m 30 was married when i was 24 had a ectopic after trying for 2 years then 6 months after that I had a miscarriage. I had a divorce in 2008 after failing to fall pregnant again. I am engaged again and after 11 months we got pregnant. But I lost the baby last Friday. I have no children and I’m afraid I will never have children.

Good luck to all of you.

fifi- hope the new test get u some answers big hugs.

Lucky so sorry for your losses. I too worry we may never have children. Big Hugs.

Just waiting to lose my 4th baby in 8 months, what tests should I be asking for now? If the doctor tells me 'its common' and sends me home I'll slap her upside the head. I'm so angry. I've never got past 6 weeks, but this time my tests are still positive, CB Digi has been saying 1-2 for over a week tho, and hcg went from 71 on Friday to 55 yesterday

Lizzie,
I'm so sorry hun... Big Hugs. Not sure about the test but I hope they can find something out for you.

Lizzie so sorry you are going through this again. What tests have you had done? Have you had the recurrent m/c bloods taken? Clotting etc and chromosomes(for you and DH)? There were about six different vials taken for my first lot. I have now been tested for more things as the first lot came back clear. Have you been referred to m/c clinic at your hospital? If you have been dealing only with your (unsympathetic) GP perhaps you could get in touch with the pregnancy support centre nearby or demand a referral to gynae/obstetrics. It is not "just one of those things" to lose a baby every two months. I am angry on your behalf for you being told "it's common", it bl**dy well isn't.
Sorry for the rant, I hope you get the help you need.
AFM I think I might be pregnant again, getting faint lines on cheapie strips and have a lot of symptoms, but scared that the faint lines are evaps so waiting to get a clearer line before going to PSC for blood test. Also ordered 10miu ICs rather than the 25mius I've bought from the pound store. Hoping they will arrive soon and give me a clear line!

I really hope you're pregnant!!!

Its complicated with me, we're a same sex couple using a sperm donor at home doing AI, and the doctor won't give him any tests unless we go through a private cinic, costing hundreds (incidently, the nearest clinic don't even help same sex couples) :growlmad: I havn't had anything done at all so far, all I know is my progesterone is normal, it was 29 2 days after my MC in April. I had a laparoscopy last July and was treated for 'extensive' endo, but now don't fall into the 'needing help' catagory as 1 - I'm using a donor, and 2 - the endo was cleared up so isn't there anymore to cause a problem!!

Part of me wants to give up, but part of me is thinking I need all the help I can get. I've already been taking aspirin everyday for 2 months incase it's a clotting problem, and with my last MCs my endometrial lining was less than 0.5mm, but this time was 10.9mm, plus I saw a sac on Friday! So havn't a clue why it went wrong this time, since everything was going so well :dohh:

It's interesting you have endo, I do too, I have read one journal that suggested endo could possibly be a factor in miscarriages, something to do with prostaglandins being released when they shouldn't be due to the endo implants although my consultant wasn't aware of this research. As for all your endo being removed, it is possible that they missed some or more has grown (I know that I had my first lap in Nov 08 and by June 09, whilst on Zoladex, the second lap showed more to be removed). I think it's awful that you are being discriminated against. The only thing I can think of is to write a complaint to the practise manager or the health board, even your local MP possibly.
I have been told not to take aspirin until I get pregnant, but then possibly to add in heparin.
I really don't understand why they will not do the recurrent m/c tests, that's just not fair. I would keep pushing. Is there another doctor in the practise? Is there no way of getting a referral to hospital where they might be more open minded? Really not sure what to suggest. LGBT organisations in your area? Lie? Is there no anti-discriminatory laws to prevent discrimination on grounds of sexuality?

My friend runs an advocacy service for lesbians, I'm gona email her at some stage to see if she's heard of anything similar. After my first MC my doc told me to 'relax and it'll happen', even tho she knew I only had 1/2 tries a month and had to plan them to a T.

I asked if my endo could be back, my doc said no (even tho the consultant told me it could come back within 6 months or 6 years, its been a year now). I only had the lap the first time as I went to A&E in agony, turned out to be an ovarian cyst, which then ruptured, so they finally opened me up, after sending me home with paracetemol and I hada be rushed back in) then was todl I was lucky they caught the endo when they did!

Im tearing my hair out at the mo, I havnt even begun to grieve for my babies, as I always get pregnant 2 cycles after each loss, so Im definately taking a break this time to get my head sorted. Thanks for your advice :)

I agree with Fifi, never knew you had endo Lizzie, major player in mcs! Its something like 40 odd percent of women with endo have had them. The arnt 100% sure how it relates, but its something to do with the signals not getting switched off to shed the uterine lining even if you are pregnant. Dearly wish you wernt here Lizzie!:hugs:

WannaB you worded it so much better than me, I could remember the technical stuff but couldn't think how to explain the theory!
Lizzie I went through three m/cs with out even a cycle in between, it exhausts you both physically and mentally. I know you have the anger going on but that just drains you more as you are running on adrenaline. I hope you can have some time to recover, and get some answers (and a new doctor!!!)

I think maybe I belong here. I just had my third miscarriage. We had an appt to see a specialist July 28th. I've read that fewer than 3% of couples go on to have a 4th consecutive m/c but I bet I could beat those odds. Right now, we're avoiding pregnancy at all costs until we can figure out what's wrong. I can't do that again. I just wanted to find out from some of you what reasons you've been given for losing your babies.

Arein83 - Ive had 3 mc too I know how you feel. Ive had all the mc tests and was just told it was 'bad luck' but the tests might show something up for you. I have no other children apart from mc and many a time wondered if was ever going to have one but there are people on here that have had 3 and gone onto have one. Its so frustrating when everyone else is getting pregnant isnt it!sorry for your losses be strong xxx

Areln-
Im so sorry for your losses :(. I've lost 2 babies and so far its been "bad luck" according to docs. I have an appointment early July to talk about testing and possibly resuming clomid (I have pcos) so hopefully I can get some results and keep my next peanut.
I've read a lot of books, googled, and researched. I think, due to my pcos, im lacking progesterone which helps support your pregnancy.
If I were you, id research and ask for testing to be done. Go in fully loaded and not afraid to ask questions. If nothing is found wrong, then at least you know you tried your hardest to find a solution.
Id love a ttc buddy so keep me in mind :)! Keep hope :)

kat-I'd love to be your buddy. I was told in August of last year that I had PCOS after a year of TTC unsuccessfully. I was started on aspirin, metformin and femara. I got pregnant in Sept and lost that one in December. The doc that diagnosed me ran some blood tests but I didn't get an ultrasound until I had started bleeding at 5 weeks. Lo and behold, no PCOS but one cyst on each ovary. So I figured him for a quack and got a new doctor. She isn't a fertility specialist and really doesn't know why this keeps happening but she was kind enough to give me my referral. The blood tests I had done last year came back absolutely normal but I can't figure 3 consecutive m/c's "bad luck".
The problem has gone from not being able to get pregnant at all to not being able to keep a pregnancy. I don't know which is worse.
Our daughter is 4 years old and she was an unexpected surprise but after I had her I started Depo and I wish I never, ever would have. I blame all of this on that damn shot.
