Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

The procedure went well. They didn't sent the fetus for genetic testing, I have an appointment in 6wks and we will start a ton of blood work.

Oh good luck sammy! Make sure you eat and drink well before they leech you xxx

Petitpas & Lamburai - this may seem like I'm clutching at straws but do you think because I started temping during a fertile patch of cervical fluid and +OPKs that these temps could actually be elevated and my normal BBT is lower that what I've charted so far?? Please be blunt!

Lala, I am echoing the other ladies in that you really could be anywhere in your cycle! Straight after an m/c cycles can just as much be erratic as normal and there doesn't seem to be a fixed rule as to when you ovulate again. You're doing really well on the temping. Just don't worry about the odd jumps up and down or where you were sleeping. You're looking for the general trends and you can usually tell when you've ovulated (give or take a day or two) as the temp rise is quite obvious.
How are your opk sticks looking btw? Are they all equally strong? Or are they getting stronger/lighter?

sooooo looks like we will be blowing 6K and going to Spain!!

6k? Bargain :winkwink:

:yipee: VIVA ESPANA :yipee:

(My BIL and his wife had IVF in Barcelona to 'create' their son)

Is this going to be with pre-selection? Or sister's eggs or what? xxx

he he he .... you are sooo funny Petitpas!!:haha:
This is with an anonomys egg donor, as they won't let us use my Sis out there and it includes:

EGG DONATION CYCLE……………………………………………………..……………………………
Includes
Initial consultation with ultrasound scan and transfer test
Blood Group (if necessary)
Karyotype and Serology (both recipient and partner)
Sperm assessment and freezing (includes general sperm assessment, laboratory preparation, freezing for ICSI)
Egg Collection and culture of gametes and pre-embryos
ICSI (Sperm Microinjection)
Assisted Hatching ( if needed)
Embryo co-culture
Blastocysts
Embryo Transfer
Donor Costs:
Interview and selection
Blood Tests, Blood Group and medical exam
Drugs
Economic Compensation
Follow up visits
Room and Theatre
Egg cells retrieving
Anaesthesia and nurse

so all in all not bad... and no waiting list...

That sounds great!

Out of interest, do they give you a back-up plan of what-ifs? I.e. egg retrieval isn't as it should be? Do you have to pay another £6k then or is there a price for repeated egg retrieval?

Thanks ladies! I don't have to tell any of you how badly I want this and how impatient I am!! I'll just keep on charting and see what happens.

Petitpas, my OPKs seem to be as dark as the control line but at the 10 minute mark, a bit darker. The test says not to read after 10 mins. I'll see how everything looks tomorrow. I have an u/s tomorrow to check my uterus and ovaries...

Fifi-folle, I've split my chart, thanks for that. I'm sorry for your losses. I'm sorry for everyones.

Keep you posted and thanks for all your help and advice!

Lala, that's exciting that you're having a scan tomorrow! You'll be able to see for yourself whether your egg has popped yet or has a little while to go (ask them what size the dominant follie is). :yipee:

Great idea! Thanks Petitpas... I will do just that. I hope they tell me!!!

Update you all tomorrow xx

Hi ladies!

Well, she said my uterus looks normal but she said to her colleague that it looks slightly retroverted. Also, there is no dominant follicle. I don't know if i've mentioned before that I have PCOS. She said my ovaries are very large. Last time I had a scan when I lived in Chicago I only had one cyst on one ovary and about 5 on the other... she didn't tell me anything else really.

I wonder if the PCOS has anything to do with the +ve OPKs?!

I'm going to continue charting and see if I can establish a pattern. Roll on my appointment with the specialist!

xx

Hi Ladies

Well I just learned I had a MMC on Monday (the days go by so slowly it feels like a while ago already)..

I was supposed to be 12 weeks but also just found out the baby only measured 7 weeks..

The cycle before this pregnancy I had had a chemical pregnancy which ended quickly at 5 weeks. I didn't really put much significance on this since I've read it's very common and because it was so quick I didn't think of it as a real pregnancy.

So my doctor phoned me and said because I have had two back to back miscarriages I should come in for tests to determine the reason for the recurrent problem.

This put everything in a new perspective for me. I had just reasoned that it was just chromosomal incompatibility and just bad luck that it happened twice..

Now I am concerned that there might be a reason that I can't carry a healthy pregnancy for long, and it upsets me.

I won't be going into the doctors until the miscarriage is finished (I will miscarry naturally and it hasn't really begun yet so it will be weeks I'm sure), and I am not sure what all she will test for but I will be doing some research before then..

Anyway - does anyone have any basic info that might help someone like me who knows nothing? Or maybe point me to a good place to read up on things?

Lala, interesting scan! It can't be bad if your specialist takes a good look at you xxx
My suggestion re the opks would be to take a sneaky hpt.
If it comes up positive, then that is surely affecting your opks (they detect hcg). I know you had a negative blood test a little while ago so having a positive hpt now is not really to be expected or even good news, but it might explain the opks.
Otherwise, could you ask your doctor for a blood test to check your lh levels? Sorry, I don't really know too much about PCOS so I don't know whether a high lh surge is normal or not. Or whether it can be regulated. Maybe someone else here can advise?

Smfirst, so sorry to hear about your losses :hugs:
It's nice that your doctor is proactive, although it is entirely possible (and statistically more likely) that your intial idea of 'bad luck' is correct.
I really hope everything goes as smoothly as possible with your natural miscarriage, although I wish you didn't have to go through it in the first place  You are a very brave woman! You will get through this and then, hopefully very soon, you will be expecting your take-home baby xxx

Hi SMFirst, I will be having some blood testing started in 6wks. I had a D&C on monday, it was my second. The first one I passed naturally. I work in a medical Lab so I am predicting Thyroid testing and some hormone testing like Progesterone, FSH, LH. I have seen that there can be many tests done. I am hoping for something simple some supplement can take care off. Good luck to you.

Good luck to you too Sammy :)

I am definitely interested in Progesterone testing, as my cycles are usually only 24 days (I started taking B vitamins but don't really know if it changed anything)

The one thing my doctor mentioned was something about testing for a blood clotting factor (ie for future pregnancy they would put me on blood thinners if it were a problem) - but I don't know..

A couple things that came to the top of my mind were:

Toxoplasmosis (as I have always lived with cats and we just took in a stray cat right around the beginning of my pregnancy)

Sperm qualify/ DNA fragmentation in my husband - he has been taking an anxiety drug called Cipralex (an SSRI) - SSRI's have been shown cause DNA fragmentation but not sure how much of an effect it may have..

Hi SMFirst sorry that you've had to find your way to this thread. I'm not sure about toxoplamosis, I have two cats so have been researching it, I think the risk of it is quite low tbh. I hope you find some answers with the testing, I agree with Petitpas, although it seems like "bad luck" can't strike THAT many times I believe that 4/5 of my losses were bad luck. :hugs:

Hey Petitpas! Thanks so much. Maybe I should take a sneaky hpt... my temps dont really correlate with being pregnant though do they? Another dip again today.

SMFirst / SammyCaine - I am so sorry for your losses.

La xx
