Reflux Help & Support Thread

just been looking on the label of her ranitidine - it says in 0.5ml 3x daily is a total of 7.5mg - in Colic Solved the author says dose is usually 5-10mg split 3x daily so she's getting a good dose by the sounds of it?? definitley making a difference she's much happier though going to call the doc when I get her weighed on Monday so get correct dosage :flower:

Yey Ness, So pleased its helping Ava  Its such a relief isnt it when they are happier :hugs:

Does anyone else have the lansoprazole in dissolvable (in the mouth) tablet form? If so, how do you find them?

Hi Kelly - thx for ur comments

Think Lansoprazole isn't so good for babies because they are 'delayed release' - babies tummys empty much more quickly than adults, so they're not as effective as the 'immediate release'. Is it Losec MUPS ur using jst now? If so, how old is ur baby? Ru havin problems givin her the meds? If so I can offer you some different options I've tried that might work for you... x

Thankyou so much for your offer of help, I really appreciate it :flower:

My Daughter is 5 months old ~ I was worried about giving her the dissolvable tablets, for risk of choking, but the doctor suggested i break them into 1/4's & give it to her that way, which is much better

Ive just realised I have been giving my Daughter 0.4mls of Domperidone 3 times a day, when on the label it says 4mls 3 times a day! :dohh: That seems an awful lot?

So, to make it clearer & let me know what you think, pretty please :hugs: Im all in a muddle, as to if to give her these full doses?

She has:

1 X (strength 15mg) lansoprazole orodispers tabs once a day

4ml domperidone (strength 1mg per ml) X 3 times a day

hi Kelly
Firstly, ignore what i said about the lansoprazole orodisp tabs not being so good - had confused them with the capsules you can open up - so sorry!

Your dosages defo look good to me. The domperidone is defo a high dose, but max daily dose is 2.4mg/kg/day. Since your LO's dose works out at 12mg daily she's not exceeding this max as long as she weighs a minimum of 5kg (which I'd guess she does at 5mths).

Here's the source for this max dose:
https://www.medicines.org.uk/EMC/medicine/6965/SPC/Domperidone+1mg+ml+Suspension/ - info on dosage for infants is in section 4.2

Hope this helps!

Hello ladies hope u all are well. Still struggling with the reflux. Some days good other days not so good but we are up to the 25th percent for weight so something is working. Dr told me I could strart giving more solids been on cereal since 3 months hopin that starts to help. Have the hardest time getting LO to keep the med (omep) in his mouth he hates it so much and spits so much out. Anyone have any advise on how to get him to swallow it.

So sorry to see you've suffered so many losses b4 the safe arrival of your LO - hope the sh*tty reflux goes soon - you really deserve to enjoy ur LO to the full!!

What form is the omep in? Is it tablets you dissolve in water or what?...

Cheers Ness

I agree - this is the best book ever written by a country mile as far as i'm concerned jst now - stopped me bein carted off by men in white coats.

Aww I had to giggle yesterday, Nim vomited onto DHs face yesterday  I nearly wet myself laughting.

She still has runny poo and is chucking after every feed, wondering whether I should stop the erythromycin as its not doing anything for the delayed stomach emptying as shes still chucking like a pro.
DH has agreed we can go to the paed once he's back in the country and can ask to try Elecare. Its so unbelievably stressful having a baby who literally drinks the bare minimum per day and doesn't enjoy her food at all. She wont have a bar of solids/puree at all.

Still atleast the Losec keeps her pretty much pain free, she occasionally gets an attack that hurts but 99% of the time shes a happy chucker, she currently has a neat trick where she drinks 1oz but chucks back 2! Now that's talent!

We are on holiday in Queenstown at the mo, she was a total star on the drive down, 6h and she barely grizzled at all. We had a lovely walk today but boy it's cold down here! Winter clothes are us :haha: We bought Nim the cutest hat today, pics to follow later, suffice to say its pumpkin patch, pink, furry, has ears and has flaps down over her ears :cloud9:

aw well done Nim! lmao at chucking up in your DH's face:rofl: Mark throws Ava around everywhere cant wait for the day she throws up in his face lol!

I've increased Ava's dose to 0.7ml x3 daily as 0.5 didnt seem to be doing much, she's doing better on 0.7!

One thing though - does ranitidine turn the poo orange?! SEriously its orange and she's a bit constipated poor thing!

It can do yup, and with the constipation, as its lowering the tummy acid so it takes a while for the digestion to settle iykwim?

Would anyone ONLY give domperidone?

I was prescribed domperidone & lanzoprazole....But hate giving her too many meds

Would love to hear your views :flower:

I think domperidone only helps the sickness as it helps move food along faster, and renidetine (which is wat we have) calms the acid... I've not heard good things about domperidone even by drs.. I avoid giving that to my lo.. Renidetine helps my lo with the acid pain.

Thanks Hun its the liquid form the pharmacist compounds it for us.

I'd agree with peachy, if you only want to give one give Ranitadene not domperidone.
Domperidone is strong and can cause cramps etc, its not a 'bad' drug, and can work really well, but Ranitadene tackles the acid and pain from reflux, rather than just emptying the stomach faster iykwim?

Is that what the lanzoprazole does too....Tackles the acid & pain?

If so, should I mayby just try her on that?

Yup, so sorry, just realised I wrote Ranitadene not lanzoprazol :dohh:
I would just use that, it's a h2 inhibitor/blocks acid production, so will help reduce the cause of the burning.

Losec does the same, Nim chucks like a chav on a night out but at least she smiles while doing it!

Thats what I will do :flower: Just given her the lanzoprazole & wont give any domperidone today.....See how we go :baby:

She doesnt really be 'that' sick anyway, just small amounts ~ Her reflux is mostly silent

Thankyou for you help ~ I was getting myself all in a muddle

No worries :hugs: with my girl I've ended up researching bloody every drug/idea/solution. DH says I'm a baby puke encyclopaedia
Nice eh?!?

See how Meadow gets on, you might find she is fine with no domperidone at all. Generally it's only used if H2 inhibitors/acid blockers aren't cutting it at their max dose.
