Hi Nuke, thanks for guiding me here. I never even knew this existed! I'm from Bangor incase anyone was wondering? Can I join the gang? x

oh and eve... kawaiigirl is a converting to cloth! someone else we can spam with nappy porn!

Well my home-made washing powder trial went brilliantly and everything smells clean... not fragranced... not of anything just of nothing? Of cleanliness! Similar to the smell you get from line dried clothes! So pleased!!! It's also soft! What to make next.... :]

where did you buy the ingredients for your powder? I meant to ask that on your blog but forgot :dohh:

Oh you can get all the ingredients online if you want to but you can get the soda crystals [washing soda] from most supermarkets - it's a green bag:

The borax substitute I was fortunate to be able to buy in a shop round the corner from me, other than that you can order it online:

The soap flakes I grated a pure soap [I found packs of 2bars of Simple in Asda for 55p] but you can buy soap flakes either online or apparently some tesco and boots stores sell them
And the essential oils are in most hippy/health food shops I got mine in Holland and barratt. I didn't get lavendar as it can mess with pregnancy and young boys hormones I got orange but I didn't actually add any to the powder. So I think that's a personal preference really. I plan to get some white vinegar when I can find it to use as fabric softener too as you can use it with the nappies too

Oh I should say that obviously the recipe is in cups, I found measuring cups in Asda that measure in cups and to make up 75% yield it took 4 boxes of the borax substitute and 2.5 bags of the soda crystals as well as 4 bars of the soap. So it depends on how much you want to make up in one go. I'm using the 1/4 cup measurer in the box with it and putting in half the scoop per wash. You could make less up if you want to try it first!

Hi everyone, I haven't been on in a while. Congratulations to the newly pregnant ladies! And Lauzie, we are at exactly the same stage!

I was wanting a little advice - my doctor has referred me to the midwife and asked me if I knew where I wanted to give birth yet - I can go to the Royal or Lagan Valley. Lagan Valley is nearer but I'm wondering what your recommendations are and if it really makes a difference - should I just stick closer to home? Thank you :flower:

Really interested to hear about your homemade washing powder Aaisrie. I only use eco products in my house, except for washing powder. I tried an eco one once but the clothes were still dirty so I didn't buy it again, but it would be cool to make my own.

Speccy I would say the Royal because the Lagan Valley isn't a full service - only because one of the nurses at the Ulster told me that patients from LV get sent to them for the out of hours clinic and stuff like that so it depends if you want to know who/where you're going? I've never used either though so I can't comment on care just that my times in LV [non-pregnancy related] were unpleasant and skank!!

i had an amazing birthing experience in the RVH, will always use them.

My birthing experience in the royal was excellent too. I had full use of the pool for hours.

However, the after care wasn't the best. The nurses were mostly completely horrible and had no time for me at all (apart from 2, who were great) :/ They ran out of water on my last day so LO hadn't been bathed and I was sooo stinking, couldn't even brush my teeth or anything. However, its the closest to us, so its the one we're using again this time around. I would've liked to use the Ulster personally!
