This is going to be very controversial, but...

I think accident is such a horrible way of putting it.

But it reminds me of the episode of Friends where Ross realizes condoms aren't 100% affective. THEY SHOULD PUT THAT ON THE BOX!!!

I personally would never have sex with someone if I weren't in a committed relationship with them to begin with. And any adult with a brain knows that sex makes babies and protecting yourself can help prevent that, but it isn't 100% no matter what you do. You could take a pill, wrap 10 condoms around it, and say a prayer to the Gods but you still might end up pregnant.

The thing that upsets me is women that get completely upset that they are pregnant, even to the point of being angry about it. I don't care what protection you use, if you are having sex, you better be prepared for the consequences. If you don't want a baby and will be angry about it if you get pregnant, don't have sex. End of.

i agree with the op.
lol at the friends episode i loved it

my cousin is always referred to as a "happy accident" i don't see how that is terrible? now calling someone a mistake is much worse imo.

I do think it is possible to have 'accidents' - though I hate that term!

The pill can fail, even if you are using it 100% correctly, the exact same time everyday etc, I'd class that as an accident because if you are on the pill you don't wish to become pergnant at that point, so if you do, it's an accident?

Also, sorry to mention but rape, that could cause an 'accident'. I don't think you can say there isn't such thing as an accident really, but that's my opinion.

i think that's completely different! the woman doesn't have a choice whether to have sex or not. But, the chances of getting pregnant from rape are almost zero!

Interestingly I vaguely recall some statistics that showed that the chances of conception are higher in rape than in normal sex.

Really, why is that?

it was my uncle's partner who told me. we wer discussion abortion (obviously lets not get into that) and when it is acceptable, i brought up the rape issue and she was telling me it's to do with the link between psychology and physiology. another example is, when couples who have a lot of issues when ttc adopt and get pregnant not long afterwards. or go on holiday and relax only to find out they are pregnant wen they come home. i dont know how accurate it is, but shes a councellor specialising in infertile couples so i duno!

I found a link related to what I'd heard about conception rates being higher:
https://www.springerlink.com/content/wp5cnp43k6byxj4d/

It's only an abstract so I can't see the figures but the conclusion is there.

yeah there is accidently or unplanned as i would prefer to call it i.e contraception failing but people who dont use contraception cannot expect to not become pregnant! it annoys me ive had friends tell me they are pregnant and i ask them if they used anything and they say no and im just like well hat do you expect then!! if you dont use contraception ofcourse youre going to get an unplanned pregnancy

exactly. same with ppl who have unprotected sex and end up with an STI!

Yes. To use birth control and have it fail would seem to be an accident to me. No birth control is 100%, but we can't expect people just to not have sex.

of course there is such thing as a accident hence why people have abortions but i certainly not condoning it but its the truth

i much prefer the term unplanned....i find accident a bit harsh...especially for those whos children were wanted wether planned or not

mine wernt planned but they certainly wernt accidents :)

I agree. I should have used the word "unplanned" in my post as well. There are many children who are unexpected, but very much wanted and loved. :)
