uhh... breastfeeding an 8 year old??

Hmmm! I do think it's a personal decision and that they shouldn't be judged for it - however I do find it a little odd myself. At 8 she doesn't need to feed from her Mums breasts, I guess it's a comfort thing? I could understand perhaps if her Mum expressed for the child but I think she should have been weaned off the breast by that age.

Eh? Its still good for humans no matter the age. I don't *need* to feed amelie at 19 months, and even babys who are weaned don't *need* formula or breastmilk as they eat food.

Its just my opinion! I havent said it's not good for kids, just that I find it odd at that age.

Exactly. It's the age aspect of it that we are talking about here, not how nutritious human milk is for humans. Sex ed starts early in schools and i don't wanna imagine what that girl would have to go through if she told even just one person at school that she got her mom's breast milk directly from the breast at age 8. (if she stops at that age that is...)

I had a friend I'd known from primary school who was breastfed until she was around 7. We lost touch when we were around 15 but at that age she wasn't weirded out or traumatised by it, and her and her mother were fantastically close but not weirdly so

i have said this before but for me... each to their own.

sorry, you did say that she doesnt need to feed so she just does it for comfort. A dummy is just for comfort, breastmilk is very nutritious.

Is human milk for humans of any age?

I find drinking milk in general kinda weird.

Other animals aren't going around drinking milk at all ages, are they?

we are not animals but all works on same basis, to sustain life mums milk is needed.

there are so many things about this thread i find offensive i dont even really know where to start.

How did my LO manage on Formula then?

Basis, and I meant animals need mums milk to sustain life and before formula so did we formula is a substitute. . Dont see formula for animals out there. (though there probably is but not in the wild).

Each to their own but I would be uncomfortable to see it happening in front of me. There are other ways to give BM and I just find the idea of a child that age BFing not quite right. I would feel the same about BF my own child if he was that age, JMO.

ugh i shudder at the thought of expressing  hate it, i dont blame the mother for not pumping!

I tried it, not easy and felt like a cow in a factory. Rather just pop baby on boob so much more easier.

I expressed a couple of ozs once but amelie said no @ the bottle. When first weaning I expressed milk for her porrige but i hated every second  might be cos i could hardly get any out, idk.

couldnt get hardly any out either. He seems to be an expert at it so I let him work away.

Expressing is very time consuming. I used to get loads out though, I got a 3oz bottle first go. So must have had a very good supply. It felt like a never ending cycle
xx

My pump could have been crap as I have still got a good supply and always did but couldnt get hardly any out. I did get ounzes out using the medela but not the tommy tippee or snobear pump.

I can't even remember which one it was. I've still got it somewhere. But it was one where I had to pump
xx
