what if i fart during labor??

i am going to own up and say that i did have a bowel movement when i was in labour with my youngest daughter. It was during her coming out and i didnt know until after. When your baby is on the way out he/she has to put pressure on your bowel and apparantly it happens more times than not and the midwifes have you in a discrete position at that particular time to deal with this thats why many mums dont even know it has happened. ohh the joys of childbirth eh.

Honestly, you wouldn't care if a marching band walked through the room. I'm sure he's seen and heard everything before.

Yeah, thats why so many women have clearouts before labour. I had about 4 days of clearouts  But didnt poop whilst pushing hooray.

I had an epidural and was farting throughout labour and then on the theatre table during my section .. and there was such a fit surgeon i was SO embarassed

Ahahahaha- this brings back memories!!!

I had a 2nd degree tear after the birth of my DD that required stitching. My OB came in to assess the damage and work his magic... I was chatting away on a hormone high and while my OB was putting my stitches in I let fly. Not once, but a few times! I'd had an epidural and I don't really know where all the wind was coming from! I giggled my head off nervously and apologised saying 'It wasn't me. I didn't mean that.' (WTF???). My OB actually leaned back on his stool until he was sure I'd stopped. My hubby laughed so hard he cried and I was mortified.

I can laugh about it now though :)

You've got your legs spread wide, your sweating and puffing and panting,
probably naked, and by this point several people have had their hand up
your bits. so i think its safe to say you have no dignity when you are
in labour, so dont worry about it, seriously you probably wouldnt even notice.
Most women dont even know they've done a poo, you cant feel anything else
but the pain.

haha this has made me giggle sooo much. i just have visions of my farting in the midwifes face now haha. oh dear that would be embarrassing. x

ditto, i hadnt thought about it but now im crying with laughter!

I have been like some kind of belching, farting factory since the beginning of this pg so I'm not sure I'll have any dignity left anyway. :haha:

I've heard you can have an enema if you're really worried - but not just to control the pooping it can apparently focus the pushing aswell. It used to be offered as standard I believe but now you have to ask for it

So might go for that, but to be honest I really doubt I'll care at the time.

loving this thread :haha: I couldn't care less if I fart or do a no 2 :winkwink: my husband hears me fart every day lol (I was brought up with 3 brothers so have no shame) and the midwives have seen and heard everything before so im sure a wee fart wont bother them might even give them a laugh :haha:

I think when I'm in labour, the last thing I'll care about is farting lol!!! But having a bowel movement... not so relaxed about, my OH would find it very funny though!

I'm not worried about having a bowel movement, farting or any of that, don't think I'll care tbh!!

I'm more worried about vomiting since I have a phobia of it anyway.. Have been lucky so far in that I haven't been sick once since I got pregnant but am worried about it happening in labour, seems it happens to a lot of women..

Myk's mummy :rofl::rofl:

Brings a whole new meaning to 'Gas and air' LOL

Just thinking of all those women who eat curries to bring on labour too - maybe I should pack a clothes peg in my hospital bag - the MAT unit must stink :haha:

Oh dear...I was worried about pooping...but now I'm also worried about farting! I hope it's not one of those horrid poops with the farts all mixed in!

OMG I just nearly wet myself these are so funny!!!

I think if u fart it will blend in to the background noise of screaming, talking, baby heartbeat and poo will blend with the other stuff down there so dont worry.
