What is your final voting decision? *New Poll*

I agree that the HIP grant should be scrapped (after June obviously :haha:) they would be better off putting the money towards educating women on eating properly and taking care of themselves during pregnancy not shoving money at them and letting them get on with it

I think the child trust funds were a lovely gesture whilst the country could afford it but sadly we can't anymore so i feel it should be scrapped. I think the health in pregnancy grant should go too.

yup we managed before we can manage again, cutbacks NEED to be made, it makes sense to make it in areas like these where they are literally as you say, a nice gesture, they aren't essential

i got this grant when i was pregnant. im a single mum and REALLY struggled to get everything i needed for my lo. some people cant afford to lose out on things like that. i wouldnt have managed :nope:

IDK, I just think that you decided to get pregnant and/or have the baby so you should pay for them  Start as you mean to go on and all that.

i didnt DECIDE to have a baby. i ended up pregnant and dont believe in abortion

I think thats a whole other argument. All we meant was that had you fallen pregnant 2 years ago, there was no HIP grant to have, and would have managed regardless

and pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease stop banding arond the tax credit argument (unless of course you earn over £50,000 and will therefore be affected, in which case argue away :winkwink:)

See, we earn over 50k (gross), but less than that net, so it doesnt seem fair does it?

we are the same, except earns under 50k salary but over 50k with bonus (which is discretionary) but overall gross is well below 50k because he gets hammered with tax!

I didn't getthe surestart grant either... does anyone know what the plans are for that? Since Tories want to effectively get rid of surestart centres?

I'm not sure about the sure start grant works so can't really comment on that

not sure about that actually.
would be a shame for people to miss out on that if theyre entitled because its a huge help!
mind you i dunno what a surestart centre is.
sure start grant is given by jobcentre

I wasn't entitled to the sure start grant so how do you get that anyway?

No offence to anyone but I think thats one of the main problems in this country. People having children when they cant afford them (I know accidents do happen). But why decide to have children when you know you cant afford them.

The lad my OH works with gf already has one baby which was a accident. Now they are actively planning for another. And all they do is complain how they cant afford this and cant afford that. So why are they planning for another child?!

I have to wait so should everyone else.

(Accidents aside as those cant be helped and its just life).

Just being nosey (tell me to sod off if you like!) but earning that much as a family I can'y imagine you get much in the way of tax credit under the current system anyway - please tell me if I am wrong :flower:

but how can you say i would have managed if i didnt have any money?
£190 goes a long way if you have nothing!
some mums dont manage as they have no money and end up abandoning baby or putting them up for adoption

agreed. I don't think you should plan on having a baby banking on getting benefits as they could be taken away at any point.

I hope we get electral reform, the system is crazy

FYI I could have done without the HIP grant. I spent it on my car tax

I know of someone whos husband is on DLA due to a bad back which is apparently so bad he can't do any type of work ...... YET he sits on his butt all day playing computer games and has gone on to father 4 more children

Labour are too soft on benefits, that was my main problem with them. That's why kids were planning on having babies so they could be "adults" without having to work

yeah i agree.
they are soooo expensive and its pretty irresponsible because its the child who suffers and thats not fair on them :nope:

and i'll add quickly that his wife herself has said there is nothing wrong with his back and he puts it on when he goes for assessments!

I do agree with you to an extent we're waiting til Im in a better paid job or a job that allows me to work part time before we have another. As hard as it is.

But at the same time I don't think it's fair to say don't have a baby unless you're well off.

Like for example my husband went to uni because his family could afford to put him through it, whereas mine couldn't, so he now has a degree which makes him more likely to get a better job then me. So if I'd married someone else who didn't have a degree or a good job because their parents couldn't afford it, does that mean that I shouldn't have a child?

Thats only an example Im not saying you need to have a degree to eaern money or anything, just another perspective, I dont see why money should judge wether you should have a baby or not.

But then again some people are responsible & claim what they need, and other pop kids out here there and everywhere to get benefits.

I do agree there's too many people getting benefits that could easily go out and work etc but some people do need them so what about them?

if we have another election, i tell you, leeds council better get their finger out their ass and get me my vote this time!
