Just wondering if any diabetics are here so I can compare and obviously support each other as it is so hard to maintain blood sugar and lots of other matters :hugs:

I am type 2 diabetic but I am insulin dependant and insulin resistant so I struggle in pregnancy to keep ontop of everything!!

What regim are you on atm? I take Apidra 54 units with each meanl, 50 units of Glargine in the evening and Metformine slow release x2 a day!! A lot to start with but my HbA1c was 6.4 yesterday so I am really happy with that!

What is your HbA1c currently??

Your hbac1 is really good hun!! Mine is currently 7.4 which isnt great!! I am on 30 units of Novarapid 3 times a day and have 30 units glargine.

How has your blood sugars been since you found out your preggo? Which by the way CONGRATULATIONS! I found out i was preggo 2 weeks ago and the 1st few days they were quote high but now they seem quite low. I had a hypo the other day, my b/s was 2.1 !!! :hugs:

I don't think I've ever gone as low as 2. anything hun, that is low. Have you seen or spoken to your diabetic team yet, I have specialist nurses I can speak to all the time. The thing is in pregnancy your body runs at a lower sugar level than when not pregnant and if you are doing things like exercise, walking etc then your sugars drop much quicker. You will get used to it, I have had 2 children whilst diabetic and I am getting used to it now. I have hypos in the afternoon between lunch and tea so I have to have a banana or something about an hour after my lunch. I had a hypo at 3.2 whilst out the other day and had nothing on me to sort it out. Ending up paying £6 for a triple choc muffin and bottle of coke in the cafe where we were!! I hate hypos but they aren't harmful to the baby as opposed to high sugars which are.

I don't think 7.4 is bad, let me tell you hun, when I got pregnant back in Feb I had my HbA1c done and it was 9.7 and I believe this was the cause of my m/c in May and in Jan. I t has been a real battle to get them down and I am so glad I have now. You need your HbA1c doing soon though so you know what work needs to be done. Have you had it done recently??

I phoned the Diabetes team yesterday and I've got to go to Antenatal on Tuesday. They were very helpful last time but i sadly miscarried in Nov (had a missed m/c at 8 weeks) and had a chemical pregnancy in Jan. My hbac1 was 7.2 then which isnt bad so not quite sure why i m/c. We have been for tests and they couldnt find anything.

When you had your 2 children what was your hbac1 then?? Dont you find you have alot of hypos now? Just that when mine were that good i had loads of hypos?!!

I last had my hbac1 done a few weeks ago, i think it was 7.6. Also, i'm meant to go to Canada in 3 weeks time and dont know whether to cancel or not, what would you do??

There is no medical reason for you not to go to Canada hun, you should go and have fun!!

I do find with great control comes more hypos, it bothers me but as long as I know the baby is doing ok then I can cope with having to eat Mars bars every so often

When I was diagnosed with diabetes Iwas 30 weeks pregnant with my first son and then needed treatment after wards so was told I had type 2 then. So consequently my HbA1C was awful with Ryan, it was 8.5 when I gave birth at 36 weeks he was 9lb 6oz. Then with Shaun I had control early but it was a struggle from about 16 weeks constantly trying to keep on top of it. My HbA1c at the end was still around 6 though so I did it. I had sections with both though due their size I ended up with Pre Eclampsia and had emergency sections with both!! It was an awful experience and wouldn't wish it on anyone but I don't mind because I had my sons after wards. Shaun was born at 36 weeks and was 9lb 11oz so they were both big.

I lost so much weight when pregnant that I went down 2 dress sizes. Went from a size 20 to a size 16 maternity. Make sure you ask all the questions you need to and have a contact number to speak to your team if you need advice. I can ring mine any time which I find really reassuring. You will probs find you need to cut back your doses at first then build them up again or make sure you have a snack when you think a hypo may happen

The nurse said the other day that i may not be able to fly becasue i've had m/cs - i think there is a slight risk of m/c in early pregnancy when you fly.

I think you have done really well to maintain your hbac1 so well done!! As i know how hard it is!

I have just put a deposit down on my wedding dress (not getting married for another 2 years) and they had to tug the back to zip it up!! The dress fitted like a glove 2 weeks ago!! My boobs have gone massive already  God help me when i'm walking down the aisle - i just hope i dont put loads of weight on!! :hugs:

By the way do you know why you lost so much weight while pregnant? Was you sick alot? xx

No I wasn't sick alot, not at all, I've never had morning sickness hun. I think it just the diabetes has that kind of effect with me. I have an 11 yr old daughter and I didn't lose weight with her, I didn't gain much either but it was different then, I was only 21 when I had her.

I've never heard of anyone being told not to fly because of a previous m/c hun. I suppose you have to go with what the Dr says when you see him.

I just got married April, it was a special day and meant so much to me to have my children there, I was pregnant too on my wedding day but that ending sadly. I am sure you will have you little 18 months old running round and maybe even another one on the way by then lol

Aww Congratulations on your wedding hun! :happydance: Think you are the same age as me, i'm 31? I hope i dont gain much weight either but at the moment i feel like i'm ready to burst! How are you feeling? Do you feel any different? I've had slight spotting and had a scan on Thursday and just a sac can be seen, going by dates i'm 5 weeks and 6 days today, i'm really hoping its not a blighted ovum. The doctor said going by my dates the sac is the right size but i just cant help worrying as i've not only got diabetes but a bicournuate uterus (2 wombs) :hugs: xx

wow about your wombs hun, my friend has the same thing and she has 2 healthy children and an angel baby after he was still born with genetic defects, awful experience for her but nothing to do with the womb thing (can't remember the word lol)

I forgot to mention, I hope they have got you taking 5mg Folic Acid hun as it is important when diabetic due to the increased risk of spinal cord defects!!

I hope your scan went some way to making you feel a little easier. I think I am about 7-8 weeks but I have to wait for my scan to know for sure so will let you know when I do lol

I hjave had 2 miscarriages this year one due to blighted ovum and the other because I think my diabetes was just too out of control my HbA1cwas 9.7 when I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks and then m/c at 10 weeks, missed miscarriage too so I didn't even know.

They always have to check to make sure there is only 1 baby as the other could get pregnant if we are not careful, i've told my OH to stay away from me!!

Yes, i'm on 5mg folic acid and i'm also on baby aspirin. I have got my 1st diabetic antenatal tomorrow so i might pop into the EPU and have a scan again as i've gotta be scanned every week. For some reason i keep thinking i'm got a blighted ovum! Because all they could see last week was a sac so i'm panicking!!

I'm sorry to hear about your losses, its truly awful. My consultant told me he has patients with REALLY high HBAC1 and theys till manage to have healthy babies. Can't you go to the EPU for a scan hun??:hugs:

I would have to have a reason for them to scan me and I would feel awful lying. It's the first time I haven't had spotting of any kind or any bleeding other than my af in any pregnancy so I can't really complain about having nothing to worry about. I worry because I have nothing to worry about

I am bloating so much again that I have had to put maternity pants on today!! It's not funny at 7 weeks grrrrrrrr. I did last time and with my sons I was about 11 weeks so I'm not that far behind. I tend to bloat really quickly at first and then slow down til about 16 weeks then go up in stages!!

I'm looking forward to finding out how your app goes today, did you get your HbA1c results hun??

 same here. We worry when we have symptoms and worry when we dont

I have just got back from the hospital and there was a heartbeat :happydance: I am only 5 weeks and 4 days. Thats why they could only see a sac last week :dohh:

I've been in the hospital since 9am this morning and only just got home. As you know you have to see doctor, nurse and dietician! My hbac1 was 7.2 which is better than what it was :happydance: THey also said spotting is very common in people who have got 2 wombs and theres nothing to worry about.

I am still worried about m/c but i think if you have experienced it then it makes you worse. THe doctor also said it's fine to fly as long as i drink plenty of water and move about on the plane and wear flight socks, i'll be fine. So Canada here we come :happydance:

How are you feeling hun?? :hugs:

That is great news hun, I replied on your other thread too. It's great that there was a simple reason for the no heart beat hun and I can't wait to see a pic of your bubs! When do you go to Canada?

wow that should be great. I've never been myself but my brother lived in Winnepeg for a few years and decided he would rather be at home so cane home. Now he is moving to Aus this year instead lol.

I am still waiting for my early scan to come through but then I only found out I was pregnant 11 days ago lol

We are not going to jinx the holiday by packing or changing the money until i have my last scan before we go which will be the monday (we go on the tues). I'm really worried about having a missed m/c again as when we go it will be the same "week" as last time, i was 8wk 5 days last time. Everyone is telling me it wont happen again and try and relax but how can they say that if they have never been through a m/c themselves! :hissy:

To be honest, if i hadnt been spotting i would of gone to the EPU and said i had been just to get an early scan - its just reassuring to know :baby: is ok. How many weeks will you be about when you get a scan? Dont you normally get a very early one when your diabetic? :hugs:

I am waiting for an "urgetn refferal" but as I only found out 11 days ago I can't expect too much. The hospital I go to is not a big one and they are very busy. My Obgyn only has antenatal clinics on Fridays too so I am hoping for next friday as my husband is working lates and should be able to come with me. I don't think I would cope well on my own. I have been tempted to go to the epau to get an early scan but I have to book in through our A&E and then go to the EPAU and I feel awful wasting time like that. I would rather wait as I feel ok and as long as I haven't had any spotting then I'm trying my hardest not to panic too much. I'm going to ring the ante natal clinic chortly and find out if they have had my referral yet so I can get some relief knowing they are dealing with it all.

You're right hun, if you feel fine etc then you should just wait for your appt to come through. I'm just a worrier, it really annoys OH !!! I mean, i litterrally worry about EVERYTHING! Just wish i wasnt like this! Got told the other day i have got a few nasty things in my urine....a bloody water infection! AND YES.......i did google it when i got home even though i know it common in pregnancy, i'm on antibiotics now. :hugs:
