Beach Bump Graduates!

Morning everyone - Elliot also had a bad evening - feeding from about 7pm til midnight. My poor Hubby was helping try to soothe him bit he has to get up at 5.30 so must be knackered today. Had a good night though - he slept 12 - 4.30, feed til 5.30 then slept til 8! Albeit on me still...

He is definately not going to sleep on his back so was considering getting one of those movement pads that go under the mattress... They're a lot of money but do you think it'll help???

Hann Annabelle sounds like she's getting on great!

Caz we just put Elliot in a sleepsuit and he seems warm enough but it depends how warm your room is. He doesn't like being swaddled as he's always kicking his arms and legs! Have fun getting him registered!

Bec - I have the angel sounds sensor pad thingy and to be honest i wouldnt be without it now. I know they are not for everyone but we like it. We got ours on ebay for 30quid....

xx

morning all

DM - sorry Sophie has been having a rough time feeding. Funny you saying about the difference in colic. with Josh when he had colic (from about 4 months to 14 months - after going on formula) he screemed the house down in pain. whereas Logan has had colic a couple of times due to my tablets and apart from fussing with his feed and wanting cuddles you would hardly know he has it. Strange how they can be so different.

Claire - hope Niamh manaaged to settle and you got some rest in the end.

Hann - congrats on getting Annabelle to sleep in her bed last night.

Caz - sounds like Ajay had a good night last night too. He will start to settle into a routine sleep pattern. As for night time wear Logan was in a vest, and a longsleeved/leg onesie and then swaddled up til Thursday when the weather got hot and I now have him in a short sleeved bodysuit and then swaddled and he is fine. Enjoy registering his birth.

Freckles - glad Elliot slept well albeit with a late start. Hope your DH is okay at work today. I have the movement matress thing with my angelcare monitor and I do find it gives me peace of mind. Its the monitor I had for Josh and although it was quite expensive it has now done the two boys so I am happy with that. I used the pad until Josh went into his big bed so that was about 2 years old even though cot death reduces significantly from 1 year old.

AFM - Took logan up to bed at 10pm as he had had a good feed at 9pm however he then decided to continue feeding til 11:25pm!!! However the upside was that he then slept from 11:30 - 2:50am and then from 4am -7:30am. Feel amazing this morning for having two sleeps of 3 hours each.

Hi

We have the angel care movement mat too, haven't set it up yet but we will tomorrow as we have to buy something rigid to support it under the Moses basket. I will feel happier when we use that.
Freckles - sounds like Elliot is doing well. Have you considered taking him to a cranial oestopath to see if alignment might help him sleep on his back? It could be something really simple stopping him and causing him pain but easy to resolve.

Caz - sounds like you have a good system with your husband, it's def all about the teamwork with us! I will find it much harder when Greg goes back to work especially if she is still doing these mammoth feeding sessions! I'm holding on to Linds words that in a few weeks the feeds will only take 15 minutes.

Curlew - Logan obviously eats a lot too! Have you seen any decrease yet?

Have midwife today so going to ask her about the feeding. Annabelle has been latching properly since about 2pm yesterday so it no longer hurts. Big relief!
I also need to get my stitches checked, they feel sorecso I hope they aren't infected.....

Thanks everyone - I spent all morning researching the Angelcare monitor but I've just got back from the health visitor and she had a look of complete horror when I told her we had been sleeping him on his back during the day! She totally advised against it so now I don't know what to do *sigh*

He's put on weight since last time but has dropped nearly a centile line on the weight chart. I now feel like I'm doing it all wrong :nope:

Hann I'd not thought about going to a cranial osteopath - going to try a couple of things to get him sleeping on his back so will see how we get on with that first.

What is the risk with tummy sleeping? Is it over heating and suffocation? I think its mental how our generation where all on our stomachs and now its so high risk?

Niamh eventually settled around 11.30pm, right during a feed and only took an ounce which meant she woke up at 3am but only took 2 ounces so was up again at 7am. I dont know what is going on with her at the moment she was doing really well with her feeding and now its all a bit over the place.

She woke at 11am and has now only taken two ounces and has fallen back to sleep. I have given up and put her in her swing so I can get on with some ironing and washing.

Moira - Great that you got two decent blocks of sleep last night. Have you heard from Josh, bet he is having a great time with his Grandparents and cousin.

Hann - Well done for getting Annabelle in her basket.

Caz - Yay for little Ajay becoming an official member of the human race!! :) glad you got some sleep last night!!

Keep looking out for news from Simmy, hopefully she is in the throws or has baby in her arms now.

caz i put sophie in a babygrow. i'd use a vest if it was a hot night.

hann nice one. hope it lasts!

afm Soph finally went to sleep in her basket at about 1am. she woke for feeds every bloody 2 hours and then refused to go down in her basket so i had to have her in with me. little sod... i think its because her basket is cold and it wakes her. might start gettin her mattress out and wedging it under my leg while she feeds.

Back to no pooing - shes not had one since saturday morning. am eating red grapes, apparently it helps babies poo....

Claire I know what you mean, the 'rules' change all the time! She said since babies have been sleeping on their backs cot deaths have reduced by 50%. I think the risk is suffocation and apparently because their jaws get a bit squashed when on their tummy they can just breathe in their own exhaled air and not fresh oxygen.

Sorry to hear Niamh's feeding schedule is a bit erratic at the mo!

Think Colby's feeling a bit shitty. Ian gave him a bottle at 10:00PM and he never really settled after that. Was grunty and groany and keeping me awake. Woke up at 12:30 wanting a feed but I put him off til 1 as he is supposed to be 3 hours or more. He didn't take a full feed then and woke up an hour and a bit later instead, expecting food. I held him off til 4 hoping he'd take a full bottle. He had alot of runny diarrhea like poop and has been farting excessively. He won't take a full bottle again but keeps pulling his legs up and having wet farts. I even had to change him again. Gave him gripe water to see if that will help. Hopefully he feels good enough to get some sleep now and let me get some sleep too. Hopefully he goes 4 hours this time which puts us at 8 AM as I need some sleep.

I know what you mean about the tummy sleeping, my mum said that was how she was told we all had to sleep, or on our side! I cant wait till he is old enough to roll over on his own for that reason to be honest.
I have been letting him do a bit of tummy sleeping, as i said the other day, they do it in the hospitals so surely it cant be that bad?!
He keeps his knees bent up underneath his so he isnt totally flat on his chest which makes me feel better, and also he is now really good at turning his head from one side to the other. If he feels uncomfortable he shouts for help too!

My friend came and visited with her 11 week old who has just started sleeping through and she assured me that they get used to sleeping on their backs, i guess its a matter of perseveance as long as nothing is actually wrong...

Afternoon girls!

Less tired today, Atti had 2 blocks of sleep from 12:30 until just after 3am and then 4 until 7:30am so I feel more refreshed. I've had him napping twice in the crib this morning, he doesn't stay asleep for long in there but it's a start.
Because my milk has come in he's feeding for longer and more frequently but he's not sucking as hard because I have quite fast letdown. My nipples are still toe-curlingly sore when he latches but the pain doesn't last. Just a few more weeks and it'll allll be easier! LOL
Had to take him to the Dr this morning as his stump smelt REALLY bad and he's got a wee infection so they've given him an antibiotic cream.

Hope everyone else is well, will try and catch up later when FIL has gone!

update from Fiona (fifi folle)

"Ended up wioth an emergency c-section. Baby Cameron was born at 3.25am yesterday morning. He weighed 8lbs 9oz."

I have wished her congratulations from us all.

Thanks for the update Moira!!

Congrats Fi!

Hi all, quick question - sometimes Ajay is a little sick after feeding. We try and burp him but he doesn't really burp (he is more out of the bottom end!). Is this normal and should we try to burp him more to stop the sick? It's not a lot but say 20-30 minutes after feeding he has a bit of sick leak out. It doesn't seem to bother him, more me as I'm watching for it and then hoovering it up with a muslin square!

Congrats Fi!

Caz - I dont really have advice as Joshua is pretty good with his wind now, hopefully someone else can be more helpful. (I do still use the infacol at night though as thats when he is the worst at bringing it up, makes it come up alot easier!) I just wanted to say THANK GOD FOR MUSLINS! Lol, they are a lifesaver as he gets so messy when he drinks!

Hi ladies

Have eventually got round to this will post in Graduates thread too.

So i guess it all started Thurs afternoon, i went in for a BP check, a sweep and i got booked in for induction for 1pm on friday due to my high BP.

Went home, had a nice relaxing evening, bit of a gripey tummy, but didnt think a lot of it, was just focused on the induction the following day. I had a nice bath and we went to bed around 1130pm, i was nice and tired by this point.
As soon as i got in bed i started feeling contractions, i laid there for about an hour until i was pretty sure that this was it, it was like nothing id ever felt before, so i woke Alan up saying "i think this is it. As this point they were about 7-8 mins apart but the pain was bearable.
We phoned L@D at around 1am and were told to come in, got there about half hour later, i was monitored al the usual checks etc but was then told to go home for a bit, this was about 4pm
Oh whilst this was going on my mum and dad were on there way to ours. They got there shortly after we got home.
They didnt stay but took the dog with them. By this point it was very clear i was in labour, it was all in my lower back at this point though and OH was rubbing it everytime a contraction came, which did help.
I was pacing about, sitting down, getting straight back up, just not knowing what to do with myself and all the time contractions were getting stronger.
I tried laying down for a bit till that got unbearable then i had a bath. At 8am i was going crazy with the pain so we rang the hospital again and they told me to come back, which we did.
We got there and i was checked out and was gutted to find i was only 3cm dilated but they kept me in and i got started on the gas and air which took the edge off the pain and spaced me right out!
After a while this wasnt cutting it so i was given a shot of pethadine, i was definately leaning towards an epidural at this point which i eventually got when i was 8cm dliated. I went from 3cm to 8cm in the space of 4 hours so pretty quick.
The epidural was like magic i couldnt have coped without it thats for sure!
I got to 10cm at approx midday. I was checked over by a consultant but there was a problem. Harrison was back to back and his head was too high in my pelvis..This was beginning to have an effect on him and was slowing his heart rate down.
At first they decided to give me meds to increase my contractions and try to bring him further down which they tried for 2 hours but it had no effect whatsoever. His HR was getting more and more affected so it then turned into a rather urgent/emergency section!
A very strange experiance but it got the job done and my beautiful boy was born at 420pm on 22nd July weighing 8lb.
He had a slightly bruised right eye as even in the section they struggled to get him out as his head was arched right back.
BF has been a non started unfortunatly. I tried and tried but was unable to feed him so we are bottle feeding and he is thriving.
I suffered really bad side effects from all the meds and i was on a come down for the 1st 24 hours on top of the C section recovery, but it really was amazing how much better i felt the following day.
i though there was no way i would be home on Sunday but there i was,it been great.

im stiill sore but improving daily and we are so in love with Harrison. He is turning out to be a really chilled out little man and Alan too has been amazing with him. Our first 24 hours has been happy and relaxed and im sooo happy. MW came today she was pleased with everything which was great.

Was expecting last night to be exausting but get this... Harrison slept in his baskek from 1am till 730am this moring, im sure it will be a different story tonight but it was the best sleep ive had since wed so pretty good!

Niamh is VERY sicky!! I think she gets a bit of reflux and is sick after feeds. She is a nightmare with burping, its a long drawn out process. I am going to mention it to the doctor when I go back about my wound. Its not really a massive deal but sometimes you can see that its bothering her and she has a sore tummy.

I give her infacol after most feeds not sure if it helps all that much but still do it. I just put her down and stick a muslin under her head to save the sheets. :)

Hi again, i have read through but forgotten who said what!

Just wanted to apologise for my absence, was in hosptial since until late yesterday then Alans family popped in and i dont know where today has gone, will def be keeping on tope of the thread more now though!
Harrison has just had a feed, we seem to have a pattern developing, we change his bum ,he feeds then is ready to go back in basket for sleep. and thats basically it! Took hin to Tescos today, his 1st outing, but he slept the whole time! lol
Am tired now, got some friends coming to visit shortly, hope they wont stay long

As for the chat re weight... well i still look pregnant! lol x

Mel - Your story is pretty similar to mine with Harrison being back to back and getting stuck in the pelvis. Niamh still has a slight indentation around her head where she was stuck :( poor baby. She also had a massive bruise down her left arm where the doctor struggled and had to yank her out.

Great that you are doing well and are back home. Sorry about BF, it has not worked for me either Niamh has never latched I wonder if it is something to do with the birth?? As long as they are doing well thats all that matters.

What kind of reaction did you have to the meds?? Sounds horrid.

Congratulations Fi!

Thanks for the update Moira!

Can't wait to hear from Simmy!!

What a nightmare re the whole sleeping on the front thing! Naomi tends to roll onto her side- she's not a fan of sleeping on her back either, I do put her down on her back though.

Having a shite time atm, please excuse my french lol!
Naomi has only gained 3oz this week  The week before she gained 2, Her latch is fine, plenty of wet and dirty nappies- she just won't stay on long at all. Saw a LC today and she agrees that we're trying everything- we've got until next week then they said they will review things, I'm gutted- this was the one thing about parenting this time that meant the most to me- I know it shouldn't be such a big deal but I can't stop crying and feel like such a failure  I'm determined to keep going, I just keep thinking- should it really be this hard? Sorry for the moan I'm just so fed up :(

Hopefully Simmy will be on soon with good news to cheer me up!
