Beach Bump Graduates!

Simmy - I have no idea really what he should be drinking, all I know is that everyone says give them as much as they want. But Ajay is like Leo - a little guzzler and I don't want to deprive him. Might call the HV tomorrow x

Hello Ladies,

Hailey has had 2 great nights in her big crib in her own room! We felt comfortable moving her in because she is sleeping through the night (routine established, for just now, 10pm - 7am!) and because although I wasn't waking to feed her, I was waking due to all her weird and wacky noises!

RE formula feeds...we some times give Hailey a formula feed (4oz) if I am away etc. But she always gets a FF for her last feed - hubby gives her it...lady night she took 6 oz and then nursed! Is there a 12 weeks growth spurt?! LOL

FF - a link that might be helpful...

Happy Monday everyone :)

Here's another one....

Caz - my HV is coming round tomorrow morning so will ask her too and let you know what she says... She's a good'un.

Thanks GW... Great helpful links! Just thought i'd point out that US ounces are different to UK oz... ever so slighlty... as we still use imperial measurements. 1 US oz = 1.04 UK oz.

Thanks gw - really helpful. I also posted in the formula feeding forum and the ladies there said the same - can't over feed and sounds ok. He is content andget isn't sick after feeds (other than a little bit occassionally).

Just sitting in the car waiting for Neel outisde b and q - exciting life we lead!! Ajay was asleep in his car seat ao we didn't want to disturb him!!

Thanks Simmy - really appreciate you asking! x

Evening all.
Gw, glad Hailey is getting on so well in her crib! Harrison is doing well too bless him.

Caz, Harrison is having 6 bottles over 24 hours, he gets offered 5oz during night (As he takes less) and 6 oz during the day, he does anything between 4 1/2 and 6oz each feed but usually somewhere in the middle.

Simmy, loving the fact you wear ear plugs coz of Pauls snoring! lol

We had a nice day today even though the jousting event and apparent craft and food fair were a load of rubbish, seriously there were no more than 5 stalls at this thing and they charged £11 to get in! hey ho!
We went to a factory shopping outlet after just for a wander then came home, feel worn out now though.
Another good night from Harrison, he slept after his 10pm feed till gone 5 then down again till gone 7 so a very good boy. We are taking him in to my work tomorrow and then Wed my mum is babysitting as we are going to the theatre in london to see wizard of oz, tickets been booked ages:happydance:

Hi everyone! glad to see that all of your babes are sleeping well in there own cots! I am too afraid to try that yet....I still sleep on the couch with him in a crib next to me! I'm weird...but at least I can turn on the tv in the night when I'm awake....which is all night! Haha!! But at last I am a happy mommy! I decided to combination feed and now am giving both formula and breast milk. I feel so much better. I posted a thread in post natal support about trying to be perfect...if anyone wants to read it. He is sleeping good now, but unfortunately we need to work out what is daytime and what is nighttime..but we are making progress. I think he finally felt full after we gave him the first bottle...took a nice long nap and seems to be in a better mood.

Glad your feeling better Jenni, happy mummy and baby are the most important things! :hugs:

argh breast milk bag fail!

I put 4 oz in the freezer and the bag split and leaked and the milk froze round the other bags and i cant get them out without defrosting them. About 20oz of milk down the sodding drain......

Jen am so glad youve found the right balance for you. I think it's so easy for mums to put themselves under too much pressure to be the perfect. I dont think any of us can be anything except our best - and even that is too high a standard when youre sleep deprived....

I agree with this! Well done Jenni, glad you are happier xx

Yay jenni, i'm so glad you made the choice and feel better for it! Combi feeding is really starting to work for me as long as i'm careful about keeping up my BM supply, so i really hope it is a good solution for you too! I dont think Leo ever really got full on BF alone as he's such a hungry little chappie and my milk came in so late. I totally understand the relief you felt.

Oh by the way Jen - we may be going on a family trip to Dubai in late November (me, Paul, Leo, plus my mum and dad, my sister, her husband and their twins). My dad has found some apartments on jumeirah beach which look nice. The thing I was wondering is what am i going to do with a 5 month old baby there?! I would be really grateful if you have any recommendations... And maybe we could even meet for a coffee?? Will PM ya!

Mel - sorry the jousting event was crap - what a rip off! Enjoy Wizard of Oz tomorrow. You honestly sound like you are doing so well as a mummy and Harrison is a content little boy. Well done you.

Linds - oh no!! :dohh:

AFM - hopefully getting an early night tonight if i dont faff about on t'internet too long. Leo has been crying a LOT today and all night, and has been very grizzly lately, i'm starting to think he might have colic... I know all babies cry for no reason but he really really screams for ages (a really 'pained' scream) and is very difficult to calm down. Any of you with colicky babies, do you know how you can tell if it's colic rather than just usual baby crying?

Well done Jenni - glad things are going well!

Linds - nightmare with the breast milk - thats bound to happen to me too!
On another note, I saw your post on fb about trying to get Sophie to take the bottle, did you have any luck? I ask because we managed to get Annabelle to have a bit of expressed BM for about a week and a half but for the past week she refuses to take it. The bottle it seems is not her friend, or ours. She just rejects it everytime in favour for the boob! Its so frustrating! At some point in a couple of months I will want to go out with Greg and I'll need to leave a bottle with who ever is babysitting and won't be able to if she won't take the bottle! My SIL said that our nephew never took the bottle either!
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hope you all had a good BH weekend :)

Hann, the whole bottle thing is tricky while BF. If you introduce the bottle too late it's difficult I read. I gave Jill expressed milk with every feed in the beginning because she was slow to pick up weight. She loved the bottle then. Once she gained enough I phased out the supplements. It was a big mistake because now we struggle to give her a bottle. I found that it's best to try after she's already been fed a bit and is calmer. Also, make sure the milk is warm enough. It seems to cool down so fast. Also, experiment with different types of nipples. Jill only likes the Nuk orthodontic ones. Good luck!

Simmy, here is the definition for colic from the Mayo Clinic:

https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/colic/DS00058

I don't know how much Leo cries but it says 3hrs of crying for 3 days...It seems like a rather arbitrary definition to me. Jill is most fussy around dinner time and right before bed. It's driving me mad as of late. She constantly roots and kicks and won't latch properly...won't take a bottle...just wants to try to feed, but won't calm down enough to eat properly. This is after her diaper is changed and she already has fed plenty. It's like she doesn't know how to settle and get herself to sleep. I tried just about everything. The only thing that semi works is putting her in a carrier and walking around the house. If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know. It's so tough to hear them screaming even if it's for a short time.

Thanks for the colic definition BV. I guess when they say cry for three hours they mean nonstop? In which case I don't think L has colic, as it doesn't last as long as that, maybe an hour at most.

BV, have you tried a dummy? (pacifier). It sometimes calms Leo down. Doesn't always work though. Yesterday he was very cranky and the only thing that stopped it was watching Top Gear! We had him in front of the tv in his bouncer for about an hour!

Jenni - glad you're feeling better. Sounds like a good solution and so pleased you are feeling better. xxx

Linds - nightmare about the breastmilk bags! Aggggggghhhhhhh!!!

Simmy - lucky you heading off to Dubai, sounds lovely! I would love a holiday.... maybe early next year. We went to Dubai in December last year for new year and it was gorgeous! I was pregnant so it was a great break and lovely weather too!

And Top Gear.... oh no, he is a true boy already!!!

Mel - enjoy yhe Wizard of Oz today!

AFM - off to take Ajay to meet everyone at work today for lunch. Neel is coming too which will be lovely. Then we are going out for a few hours shopping as Neel is getting my presents. I had some on Friday but he wants one more! Bless him.

Ajay was a good boy last night. Slept from 8.30 - 1.30 am and then 1.30 - 4.30 and 5 - 8 so wasn't too bad.

x

Caz that's exactly how Leo slept last night! they actually sound like quite similar babies in terms of their sleep and hunger!

Yes, dubai is lovely - it seemed a good place to head to in december as you get the nice weather but the flight is not too long. I really need a holiday - i love to travel and Paul and I were planning a big trip in January this year (ie 2011), but I was so sick during my pregnancy that we couldn't go anywhere. I basically have barely left my house for the past 11 months! lol.

Caz, enjoy your trip to work! Should be fun.

Caz - enjoy your work trip, good move having Neel with you. I missed having Greg with me to cart the pram around!!

Mel - think you are off to work too - have fun!

BV - thanks for your thoughts on the bottle. The most success I've had is with those Nuk bottles too - they are softer so think they are better. I gave her a bottle a couple of times in the first couple of weeks with no issues but about 3.5 weeks in when I was given the gaviscon and needed her to drink out of the bottle she became so uninterested! She literally screams when I try and give it now. Sometimes Greg gets lucky and she'll take it but mostly she just refuses and I give up and just BF. I hope you manage to get Jill to take it again.

Simmy - Leo sounds like such a good baby! I think colic is meant to go on for hours. What he might have is trapped wind - if he is lifting his legs up and down and screaming then could be that. Annabelle does that and the only time she stops is when she poo's. I find it much worse in the late afternoons and evenings - maybe due to a build up of food?

I am implementing a routine as of today to get Annabelle sorted. She has been doing pretty well with the sleep so far for example last night she slept from 9pm - 3.40am the from 4.45am - 7am so I can't complain but I would like to have her sleep earlier because as she gets older I know thats important. So from today I'm implementing the 3 hour routine. She was up at 7 and back into bed at 8, then up again at 9.45 and back in at 10.45. I'm hoping she sleeps until 12.15. Its not exactly 3 hours but thats what I'm aiming for. It means that I can try the 7pm bed time routine, then do the dream feed at 11 (not been doing that) and then hopefully she'll last until 5 as she has been doing 5/6 hour sleeps. Once she masters that my aim is to get her to sleep until 7. I think it will take weeks and will have some bad nights but fingers crossed we will get there.
