Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

staceyg, i'm glad your Lo's stopped biting; that must be a relief! I hope it continues & that he doesn't start again!

Thanks for your responses about feeeding past 18 months. My replies would be pretty much the same; just wanted to make sure i was normal, lol! :haha: I haven't fed harry outside the house for a long time now (except in the car or at a service station if we're on a long journey & he's gotten all grouchy), mainly coz he's too interested in other things or he knows it's not the 'right time' & i can fob him off with dried fruit or a drink instead. I've been lucky too that i haven't had much negativity (I had more negativity in the early months when people kept going on about how small he was & that maybe i should switch), and my DH is totally supportive of self weaning (although he finds it odd past pre-school age) & going with the flow of things. My mum thinks i'm a bit weird, but she doesn't ever moan about it or anything. I have some friends who think that doing stuff like BFing past 6 months, BLW or cloth nappies (which we dont even use!) are for mums who are just trying to be different & rebelling against the norm. Funnily enough, none of them have kids. All my close friends who have children all BF (or did for at least the first 4 months) & more than half of them do BLW & babywearing. None do cloth nappies though to my knowledge. My closest friend & old room-mate from university is still BFing her 14 month old & wants to go the self weaning route, so thats nice to know, even if we are 400 miles apart now!

Anyways....... better go start dinner or hubby will moan if it's not ready when he gets home. it's so nice having him home again after him being in Finland :)

Sorry off topic, but Florabean what does ERF stand for in your sig? I've been racking my brains but can't work it out!

Thanks guys. :hugs:

Do you find it's any different from feeding a smaller baby compared to a toddler? Well when she was small she didn't try to sit on my head whilst feeding! But then she also used to choke on my (then) forceful letdown... I guess we have far fewer problems now, we're both pros!

Do you NIP still? Not really. I have done a few times but generally she doesn't ask for it when we're out. I do at my MIL's and have done in a coffee shop and I think the library.

Do you ever say no if it's not convenient/possible for you? Yes and she just demands it more. But I can distract her easier now if I ask her to find something and she starts searching which gives me time to finish whatever I'm doing.

Do you make them wait? Do you have any rules or anything if they misbehave while on the boob (like doing gymnastics while latched on, lol, or pulling your hair, or hitting your boobs etc?) I take her off if she hurts me but she is going through a phase where she thinks me being cross is hilarious... I try to say no calmly and just keep stopping her but she doesn't often bite or pull my hair.

Do you feel you face any more negativity nursing an older child compared to when they were a baby? Not sure really... People don't ask so much. If they find out, lots are shocked but not all in a bad way. The other day a mum at school said 'wow, that's brilliant' which made my day!

Do people think you're weird or a rebel or an activist for extended BFing? Yes! But then I AM an old hippy at heart so I don't mind. :haha:

I sometimes think I must be part-hippy too. :haha: I wish I could be more into it like become a vegetarian and grow my own garden or something. I just love my meat too much and every plant I own seems to die. I grew a tomato plant in one of those topsy turvy planters(do they have those in the UK?) and it took ages to finally get a tomato to bloom out and when it did it tasted terrible.

I'm vegetarian but can't grow anything... Seriously, not even cress.

ETA Actually, I am very good at growing mould on half-cups of tea in my cupboard at school. And my bikini line grows at a rate of knots!!! :haha:

Hi ladies! Haven't been in here for a while, just figured I would stop in and say hello!

YAY Lynnikins & a belated happy birthday to EJ. Hope you all had a fun day. :flower:

Hi Eve :hi: good to see you popping in. How are you?

:haha: becstar

Cleckner loving your new pics of Emma in your signature. She is looking very cool!

Kaiden has tonsillitis. He's on the mend now thankfully.

How is everyone?

well im darn sure EJ is cutting his bottom molars they are huge swollen lumps in his gums the poor lil guy

Hey ladies.

Nothing new really here. Emma still needs to get her canine teeth and 2nd molars. She hasn't gotten a new tooth in over a month. Seems like she waits and does them all at once.

Does anyone else's babies not gain weight anymore? Emma was up to 24 lbs a few weeks ago but now she's back down to 23.4. Which was what she has been since she was like 14 months old. I wish I had her metabolism. The girl eats more than I do in the day. :dohh:

Hiii...Ollie has to get 6 more teeth and that is it, his canines have just come down, the boy tends to grow them in their pairs, seriously...If you can see one tooth, the rest of the pair is there too, maybe a day behind, but there lol!

I'm unsure about his weight, as haven't had him weighed in forever! But he seems lighter to me, so maybe he's lost lol...

^^ He already got his canines?! Weird. Those are usually one of the last ones to come in. :haha: Usually closer to 2 years old from what I've read. So that's good that he has them already! I think they are tough ones to come in.

Yep to the not gaining weight she has been around 26-27 lbs for months now even though she eats like a horse and still has one milk feed a day. We still have

Think we have started the weaning process now though she will sometimes ask and then forget if I dont straight away and then when she does it can literally be a couple of seconds each side. The only time now is just before bed. Still we reached two years.

And I will update a picture soon the avatar one is over 18 months old
