Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

Hiya I'm looking for stories of people who night weaned but managed to continue feeding till around 2. I've had to night wean because it became unsafe for me to drive a car (nearly crashed &several times nearly fell asleep whilst driving) but I want to continue to feed until around 2. I didn't really want to night wean. Because I was scared it'd mean early complete weaning. is this true or just some weird thing in my head?

I night weaned at 12/13 months and Thomas is showing no signs of stopping at 22 months (even though I would be happy to stop at this stage because we are TTC). So I don't think it will necessarily mean the end of feeding. Better to night wean than give up breastfeeding altogether, well done!

I agree with Polaris. I think that night weaning doesn't necessarily entail the end of a BF journey. Also, better to night wean than stop BF altogether if it doesn't suit you to stop outright. Well done!

Thanks so much I just couldn't keep on being so tired, it was the near miss car crash that did it really, im sure Leo'd prefer me to be alive! I'll not worry too much then. He's showing no signs of stopping so maybe thats a good thing?!

I think it's a great thing if he's still enjoying nursing during the day  Looks like you've come up with a solution that works well for Leo and well for you!

x

I'm sure you still have a long BF journey ahead of you starsunshine. :hugs:

I bought some lemons to try now. Although Emma hasn't been asking for it during the day the past few days. Only because DH is home though. He goes out to sea for a week tomorrow so it's gonna be tough keeping her busy enough to avoid temptation of boo boos. :haha: I'm perfectly happy keeping the bedtime and morning feeds around though. I just hate the day stuff.

starsunshine- sounds like you have a while of nursing still ahead of you hun :) Best to be safe :hugs:

Sam- Lemons! Well lets hope it works better than the vinegar! It would be quite tiring to nurse frequently throughout the day I bet!

LOL at my stars. It's okay! I stole mine from someone else on here. I can't even remember who.

Well, she just asked for booby and I told her no. She started getting really upset that I told her no so I rushed to the kitchen and rubbed lemon on my nipples. All while Emma was upset. So I scooped her up and sat down and got into nursing position. She latched right on and immediately jerked back off and gave my boob a funny look.:rofl: She licked her lips and than licked my nipple and jerked back again. Than she started patting my boob and went back to watching spongebob.:rofl: Now she is happily talking to her daddy. So I think the lemon might work! And it's a tearfree solution because she doesn't have to deal with me telling her no. She gets SO upset when I tell her she can't have booby. So this is my own sneaky way.

SO doing the lemon trick! I'm trying to wean at night lol, so I'll just keep a bowl of lemon juice to dip my boob in next to the bed at night!

I keep giggling at the lemon trick - I think Alyssa would have pulled back, said YUM, and carried right on! She loves lemons

xx

:haha:  Sam... I bet Emma's face was priceless. I hope it works for you though hun, it's a good idea for sure!

I'm glad you guys don't think I'm being a horrible mother by doing it this way. I just kept thinking I don't know how I can get her to stop without tears and struggle. I've read on here before about a woman using cinnamon toothpaste to get her son to wean down. I figured cinnamon toothpaste would probably burn the nipples though. :haha: Me telling her no causes such stress and she will cry with these giant tears coming down her cheeks and than I end up giving in because I feel so bad and she's so sweet and sad looking with her tears. But now we have my secret weapon!! :muaha: For now I'll just do it in the daytime and hopefully she'll just stop asking in the day. We'll hold on to the bedtime feed and morning feed for as long as she wants. Although I may change my mind about that if she's still going in a year.

of course I don't think you are mean in the slightest. I think it would be much worse if you just cut her off, or kept telling her no and making her seem like it's bad etc.... I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to just refuse to the child as they wouldn't understand. I would give in too lol... I am a softy.

Thanks girls. :hugs::hugs::D

I really should start getting on BnB more. The support is so great when I'm doubting myself.

You should Sam, not just for the support but well.. we MISS you! lol x
