Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

Dragonfly - hahahhaa gay from breastfeeding! More like he'll be a women eater!! (opps didn't mean that to be a pun too lol)

hehe woman eater! will love his boob apparently so his dad says. He is on the lavtivist site as a model wearing a t shirt that says "im a tit man" , i got him in as i bought the t shirt and they had no baby wearing it. https://www.lactivist.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=406
some other baby there to I see bit William has a few pics there. Darrens parents thought it was terrible the t shirt and some friends thought how embarrassing for him to wear it that it was weird and my parents havnt said anything but they are only home from hols and i will bring it up to see what they say tomorrow.

lol thats great! I love anything that promotes bfing. I've kinda got a bit obsessed with rubbing it in mil face as she's constantly trying to give my lo something else! lol

so rude of people to even suggest that! my mum suggested formula in everything at one point and said it was good enough for me. Thats not the point I say what my son has! Others complained they couldn't take him out with him being breastfed not that I would have allowed it anyway but I did have a pump for just in case only that wasnt good enough, no wonder some dont last or try breastfeeding with peoplel like that around.

Its really not helpful is it! Luckily I'm very stubborn lol.
I left lo with mil for the day with bottles of ebm and came back to find lo wouldn't take a bottle so hadn't eaten al day - mil didn't even bother to phone me and tell me so i could come back. I think she thought it might encourage my into ff. but nope. its made me even more pro bfing. I just won't leave my daughter again. simples lol

No one got William either because I didnt want that to happen. And they wouldnt have dared thats why they stepped back after using bf excuse not to take him. My mum thinks i should have went shopping with her and feed him in the loo like all bf woman do! I would have stabbed her in the car before we got there we cannot see eye to eye ever.

Ah well no one visits and when baby 2 is born they will all be unconformable and not want to come and see it. I aint leaving the room for them! and I aint stopping, they will just not visit thats what they done last time when they didnt like it as they didnt see it ever before.

I've been very fortunate. Hubby is pro-BF as well and has been so supportive from the very start. We have no family here in the UK, but my family back in Canada have all been so supportive and always comment how beautiful it is to see a baby breastfeeding. It's made our BF time even more special. I salute each and every mum who BFs, particularly those who have to deal with people trying to thwart them at every turn. Well done mummies!!! x

Can I just ask what people have done/will be doing when they return to work? I can only express very minimal amounts, even when taking Fenugreek and this is only ever from one breast... something which 2 LC's have found very puzzling. She'll be 9 months when I go back in a few weeks time and I'll be able to feed her before I leave (around 6am) and during the night but I'll be doing 12 hour shifts (2 a week) so there'll be a couple of days when she isn't BFing at all during the day. Will this make her stop wanting to feed? :nope: and what should she be drinking during the day instead?

(p.s. Gay from BFing! *snigger*)

aw elski - i dont know. i'm not going back to work so i hadnt really thought about it. hopefully someone will be along who can help! xx

Well I am preg again so dont have a job anyway as I was to ill and left when I was preg with William when preg :( I tried expressing with 3 different pumps I got and its not easy. I applaud any woman who can do it.

I really don't think expressing will be a viable option. I'm going to express anyway as hopefully just the action of doing it will help to keep my supply up but it would probably take days to get even one feeds worth. If only we had a local Wet Nurse in the area :winkwink:

I was saying the other day here if only you could buy bottled breast milk in any shop anywhere. You think they would have that in this day but that would effect formula sales big time. Plus I cant see loads of mums sitting hooked to machines being milked. Thats just weird. You would need loads of woman to just for a good amount.

Bottled breastmilk would solve all my problems! I wonder if it's available in other countries?

I guess (loathe as I am to admit it) that she'll have to have follow-on milk on the two days that I'm working unless I can find some miracle solution. I'll just have to offer the breast a lot more often on the days that I'm not working to keep her interested. I'm predicting worse-case-scenario here I guess, she may still be just as interested in the boob.

Can you get nothing out with a pump? I know I could like like 2fl oz out at one time and i have several pumps for that. The medula (sp) one was the best one and you can do it daily on the days you work not stock up like theres going to be a war etc

At nine months, you should be able to give her follow-on milk from a cup instead of a bottle - she'll probably be just as interested in boob when you are around. I have heard that they often start feeding more during the night to compensate though (big sleepy yawn!!).

William never took to a bottle, I put jiuce in it for him and he wouldnt have it but would take from a cup. Bf babies learn quicker that way so no point on bottle I was told and seems to have worked.

Elski, I went back to work full time when Alyssa was 6 1/2 months old. By that time she was drinking water from a sippy cup and eating yogurt and cheese and such. She nurses in the morning before I go to work, when I get home, before bed, and if she wakes in the night. On weekends, she knows she can nurse whenever she wants. I have never been a successful pumper, so EBM wasn't an option. She simply nursed LOTS in the morning, then had water whenever she wanted during the day, along with lots of yogurt and cheese and fruit and veggies. It hasn't adversely affedcted my supply; it has simply tailored itself to her demand. Almost a year after returning to work, this is still working well for us. Looking forward to our 18 month BF milestone soon!

Please feel free to PM me or anything if I can help. It can be done without follow-on milk, promise!

xx

Polaris - and here was me thinking she couldn't possibly feed more frequently during the night than she already is

Dragonfly - yeah that's what I plan to do, just express as frequently as possible although in my job it might not be as cut and dried as that on some days!

That is SO good to hear!! So she'll really be ok on just water as long as she's getting dairy in her diet and BFing as much as she wants to when I'm around? xx
