Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

Hey guys, Ollie has dramatically dropped feeds...He used to feed about 8am then 11am, 3pm, and then 7pm to go to sleep and on and off all through the night (we co-sleep) (sometimes there were feeds in between, as well as solid food!)

this was up until about a week ago...

Now though, we feed at 8am, then nothing until 7pm! occasionally one feed in between those! He has started to self-wean!! It was suddenly aswell!! I think it was because he had a week, about 3 weeks ago where his back teeth started to come through, and he wouldn't eat solids, only booby. When they stopped hurting so much, he took to solids better (If he possibly could! He has always been an excellent eater, basically anything you give him he will eat! And loads of it!)

So I'm thinking about introducing cows milk now, to the feed in between the am and pm, if he wants anything!? What do you lot think?? xx

Hi everyone.Hope your all having a good weekend. We are all full of cold,so Owen has been waking up extra for the booby, allthough still having plenty through the day.Im knackered!
I was just wondering ,before your period came back(those of you whos has),did you get any sort of signs it was on its way?Ive forgot off last time but Im having really bad cramps

Nursing strike? I hear it being thrown around but don't know much about it..... I know Kayleigh would rather a bottle of cows milk over booby :( so she only had one yesterday. She has been drinking cows milk since around 10- 10.5 months and loves it.

I had terrible cramps for a few days before AF returned. It was 8 months to the day. Ugh... they are worse than ever for me!

I know they don't recommend cows milk as a drink before 12 months. I would just keep offering boob and he will take what he wants/needs. He may well pick up feeds again, althoguh Sophia was down to 2 or 3 breastfeeds a day at around 10 months. She did then continue those until we stopped at almost 14 months. Try not to worry, i am sure he will be a boob monster for a little while longer.

I'm not worried he's going to completely self-wean! He loves his booby far too much!! And it's too late to worry about cows milk...he grabbed his cousin's bottle when my back was turned, I looked round, and he'd guzzled about an ounce and a half!! Oops!! He seemed to love it the way he'd guzzled it down!! I'll see how that effects him now, leave it a few days, and then if he's fine, I'll let him have more!!

Oh our doctor's recommend between 9-12 months you can introduce cows milk and actually suggest it before formula while breastfeeding if you are weaning slowly before 12 months...

Where did everyone go? lol...
Booby still going on, but only around 3-4 times a day now, which is normal for her age lol so I shouldn't complain but I do feel as though supply has dropped so I'm going to booby feed only for a while and see how it goes... might give in as LO has a cold and doesn't want it much right now, but loves her bottle!

I'm around!! Still BFing tons of times a day. :haha: I highly doubt she'll stop anytime soon. Hope you are all well! :flower:

We're still going strong. Our little boy has been more of a snacker recently but i reckon it may be the teething. He's up every two hours in the night at the moment... i'm def a zombie today!

Having had some neg comments with regards to nursing our lil boy from some people at work, i got the courage to have a chat with my boss last time i was in and tell her that i plan to nurse for a while yet and as she's been a tad difficult i was glad to see that she didn't react negatively. gosh that was a long winding sentence - sorry!

Amy is still going strong too, she's on and off all day....and all night aswell, which is getting a bit tiring really....does everyone elses baby/toddler use the boob to go to sleep?

I'm wondering if it might be time for Amy to go in her own bed/room soon...I don't see how its going to work though with her feeding so often during the night, maybe if she wasn't cuddled up close to me, she wouln't want feeding so often?

I'm really glad this thread is here, sometimes feel like my confidence takes a bit of a bash with various comments on this site about breastfeeding, dare i say it, beyond 8 months :headspin:

nice some still think its ok in here to call mums who have kids who can walk gross for still breastfeeding. Maybe any of us give advice to her in here instead of judging, heres link.

my babe still uses mummy milk to go to sleep... my hubby can get him to sleep but he rarely just goes down on his own. I stuggle to get him to sleep without boob as i clearly smell too good!!! ah well, i figured that we'll get there at some stage. Loraloo, it may help her being in her own room, however you may end up having to get up a bit more to start with?

here with sore boobs :(

:hugs: hun! xoxo

Good for you talking to your boss :) No need for comments in a negative way on how you feed your baby! Grrr!

I love this thread too!

Kayleigh doesn't feed through the night anymore, but still wakes for her soother a lot, more now where she is teething and has a cold! Mommy is sleepy! I think after Christmas we are going to try to put her in her own room without one of us in there... scary but I think it's time.

Gonna read that thread now dragonfly. But I can already see they are in second tri and first time mommy pregnant women are usually quite ignorant I've noticed. I ended up hiding the trimester threads so I don't see them anymore because I always want to jump in and tell them they are in for a rude awakening.:rofl:

Emma still feeds to sleep as well. But last night she just went to sleep without me. So I think it's something they will grow out of naturally. :flower:

Hi everyone. I'm still here, just being quiet though.

Still going strong on breast feeding! Some days Kira might feed 5 short times, and some days it's 20+ times!

In regards to sleeping, she doesn't use feeding to fall asleep and hasn't since around 4 months old. Having a booby usually energizes her, LOL.

Cleckner- did Emma lay down and just fall asleep? I just can't imagine it ever happening with Kira. We still do our pacifier and blanket and then bounce on the birthing ball for 15 minute routine :haha:

Nimbus- do your coworkers ask if you're still bf? Do you have to pump at work? I still pump once at work and I'm sure people know what I'm doing since I head towards the pumping room with my special bag. Fortunately no one has made a negative comment. Most of the girls at my work bf for exactly 1 year and then stop, so I wouldn't be surprised if I get a negative comment one day since I'm no longer the "norm".

I hope all the sleepy momma's with hungry babies at night get some rest soon! I don't want to jinx things, but Kira sleeps for much longer stretches now so I'm getting some good sleep in these days.

I'm still here, went Christmas shopping and stayed at my mums, didn't have internet! Still BF too...on average, 3 times a day and I ahve no idea in the night, he just latches himself on on his own!! x

I wish Amy would feed just 3 times a day. Is it a bad idea to try and get her to cut down? I know with time she will probably do this on her own and I know thats probably the best thing. I just think if she fed a little less often she would probably eat her meals better, and I'm more likely to continue B/F for longer. Has anyone done this, and if so, what's the best way?
