Now that I know the level of his depression, I wonder if some of that abuse stemmed from it. If I have to stay with my mom for a while, I will, but I want to get him help first. If he refuses, I know it's best to leave with the kids, even if they hate me for a while, but if he gets help and changes, then I'm not going to go. This is not who he is.

So, we'll see.

What time is everyone taking their kids out trick or treating? I don't know what a good time is? I remember my mom and MIL and friends' parents complaining when people turned up "too early"..

Well, Zoe has school in the morning, and because of her conditions, I don't want her out too long. We're starting at 5:30 and will be done by 7:00pm.

I called the doctor and the doctor won't refer him!!! They told me to take him to the emergency room and let Mental Health assess him and make the decision on whether they will give him an appointment, because "it'll be a month before he can get an appointment otherwise".

There is NO WAY I can get him to go to a hospital, especially when the wait is over 10 hours!!

Now what am I to do?

Tasha--we generally go out as soon as it gets dark out that's when I see people's lights go on and when I see other kids out as well

Brandi- yes, unfortunately you can't force him to seek mental help... The only way you can force someone to see a phsychiatrist would be to call the police and have them take him to the psych ward.

Whether he hit you because he is depressed or not, that is no excuse. I think if you can go stay with your mom for awhile, that would be a good idea and maybe it would be a wake up call.

I was hoping the crafts show would be the weekend we had the car but it's the weekend after. Not sure if I'll make it or not since a long bus ride back and forth don't appeal to me at this moment

I don't know much about the mental health system but I'm pretty sure you can't force anyone to get help as Joss said unless they want to or unless the cops are called. Personally I would try to get him help but would probably leave until he does because nothing justifies abuse. And you have young kids who are seeing it. I was only 2.5 when my mom left my abusive father but it affects me to this day.

How is everyone's Halloween going? Are all the kiddos excited? Hannah is but she's also being a PITA We *may* have threatened her with no trick-or-treating if she didn't stop

Brandi- they are right there is no way you can really force him to get help (just like you can't force someone with a broken arm for example to go in).. I think that if he's become a danger to himself or others (ie: threatening suicide, harm to you/others, having a violent outburst) THEN that's when you can call 911, then the police generally take them to the ER, where they'd have to stay for observation... then criminal charges may be laid depending on what was happening, like if he assaulted you for example... I would still go to your mom's though, as you don't know how stable/unstable he is..

We just finished pumpkin carving and now Alia is having a rest before we take her around to the family's houses....I'm excited to eat all her treats

I think Hannah is overly excited for Halloween man she's been a handful today. I told her she needed to nap for trick-or-treating tonight. Fingers crossed it works

they had some Halloween shows on Disney Jr. so she watched that and we read some Halloween books before nap which was fun

We had to threaten no trick or treating today as well with Claire, she was being a hellion in Costco.

Elyse didn't want to come in from playing outside so I told her that her nose was turning red which obviously means it's about to fall off

Oh man, the other day my friend did the whole "Got your nose!!!" thing with Claire (where you put your thumb between your fingers to act as the "nose") and Claire lost her marbles, grabbed my friends hand and frantically tried to put her "nose" back on her face.

Where's a video camera when you need one? I so WISH we got that recorded.
