The first rule of Team Halloween is you don't talk about Team Halloween.

I haven't confirmed GP yet but I saw that little dragon/monster smiley and just thought of her! So I hope she likes it!

Ok, so where's Fezzle? She has to tell us what's different about Halloween in the UK.

Any nicknames for Halloween? Kinda like xmas or bday? Or do we have to spell it out every time?! :dohh: I'm lazy...let's make up our own nickname! :haha:

Thanks for the invite! Count me in (and shhhh I won't talk about it!)
I will be an October tester too...

Thanks for the invite

Love the little witch that is cool

I don't think I will be celebrating Halloween this year but normally we go to Wimbledon for a house party and dress up is such fun last year I went as a witch and DH went as a spider :haha:
Seen some really cute little baby/children Halloween outfits looking forward to dressing up Elliot next year :happydance:

Halloween in the US and UK (this is my perception coming from both sides!)-

Halloween has become more popular in the UK even in the past 10 years that I've lived here. My friends who are in their 30s say it's definitely different than when they were children. I've never seen kids trick or treating, but I heard that in some places they do it now. I know I've seen children's Halloween costumes in shops so they must be wearing them somewhere. Halloween costumes in the UK are more 'traditional'- so whereas in the US it's pretty much any sort of 'fancy dress' (British for costume), in the UK, it's more witches, zombies and other scary things. Though I have seen people just wear whatever (nurse, lifeguard) and zombify it. I have seen people just wear costumes for Halloween that are not scary too though at parties. In London, I went to a lot of big Halloween club nights, but I don't think it's that common to have a Halloween party here with friends as it is in the US though I've been to one or two. The UK also has Guy Fawkes Day (Bonfire Night) on 5 November so that's pretty close to Halloween.

Fezzle I think that's a pretty good summary. It's def growing in popularity here but is no-where near the US scale yet. I used to go trick or treating when I was younger but I don't think I've ever been to a grown up Halloween party (shock horror!) I'm looking forward to getting caught up in some excitement here :)

I am also looking forward to hearing how you guys in the US celebrate Halloween as from watching films etc it is nowhere near anything like that in the UK :nope: I have never had kids knock on my door trick or treating and I never went when I was a kid either :nope:

We generally watch a horror film for Halloween :haha:

Lilly - I also LOVE the Fight Club rules  :haha:

I like the idea of a horror film for Halloween!

I have a seminar that day, so might bring in some candy for everyone. That's my hell week as far as my teaching timetable goes for the whole year, so I'll probably look scary by that Thursday!

The dragon smiley is adorable!

I am totally in for my favorite holiday of the year, Samhain, where we build bonfires, slaughter cows, and wear masks so the ghosts and faeries don't get us! Err... I mean, Halloween. Where we dress up like sluts and get drunk at parties. :haha:

Love Halloween, and I am excited to be here!

Also, yay a thread where I can talk about my paranormal investigation shenanigans!

I have found it! Will talk Halloween later this afternoon, gotta go teach a seminar... will be back after it's done!

Woohoo!

HaillyTTC reporting for duty!!!

That kitty is so cute.

My Halloween this year will for sure involve a stint as a 1920s cigarette girl for a murder mystery party. I bought some awesome earrings with a gift card my mom bought me for my birthday and already have a headband with feathers and fishnet stockings and approrpiate shoes, so all I need is a dress. I will post all the accessories on here later and see if ya'll can help me find one.

Last year, my husband and I were "Nerds" and a professor and schoolgirl (one of my sex costumes! :haha:) for two different Halloween parties, so I will post some of those pics here later, too.

Yay for Halloween! Let's do this.

(and, as you would figure, I am probably the least sexed person here, but the first person to mention it in this thread) :haha: We always talk about what we don't have, huh?

Wahoo, I lurveeeee Halloween :D

This is Halloween, this is Halloween (8) :D

Omigosh GP, paranormal investigation, YA! I wanna hear all about it. I'm too chicken to do it myself but I love stuff like that!

I love Halloween!!!! It's a tie between Halloween and Christmas for me. I always think I like one more until the other rolls around. :haha:

That's so interesting that Halloween isn't as big in the UK but does seem to be gaining in popularity.

Every year we attempt to go to a party or something, usually ends in disaster. This year since I'm in the family way and all I want to try to do an easy and cheap costume just for the trick or treaters. Hubs and I dress up and watch scary movies, or attempt to since there's a knock on the door every 5 mins. Then we'll go for a walk around the neighborhood cause our neighborhood goes all out.

I seriously can't wait for next year, having a little munchkin we can dress up and take out (of course all candy procured will be mine). Eventually when kiddo is big enough we'll get to be one of the parents that go out in big groups. They follow the kids around but wait at the end of the driveways with their red solo cups full of booze! :happydance:

Also, soon I'm ordering this shirt with a purple mohawk so I can wear it all month long!
