February Valentines 2012

holly usually spews all over my boobs half way through a feed and then does some awesome poo explosions (the out the sides of the nappy types and over mummy ) while im feeding her so i just have to sit there until shes finished :/ such a lady my daughter is

we do a lot of feeding with her lying on my chest or in the sling so she is semi upright and she'll often pause, burp then carry on, in the hospital the midwife told me bf babies prefer to trump it out! so not to be concerned if she doesn't always burp after a feed, I'd never be patient enugh to carry on for 45min. also we get a fair bit of gas released while she's feeding as it relaxes them!

Meghan gets times when she's really upset if we put her down or pick her up but if we pick her up then walk round she starts to look around and quietens down, often she'll then spit up a bit or poop once she relaxes and it's like oh that's what it was. I swear I walked miles round the house now and know which rooms are echoey!

sling update - I'm now lusting after a hop-tye, https://www.hoppediz.de/shop/hop-tye?___store=english&___from_store=default tried one on weds and it was lush! tried to go to a sling meet yesterday tho drove for 30 mins down county lanes then the road was shut so we had to give up and come home :(

Jonah was also very gassy last night. He was wiggling and grunting and waking up more than usual.

We have our 4 week appointment today. I'm excited to see what he weighs. I'm hoping he's crossed 10 lbs. I want a big, fat baby!

I feel so bad, Mason spent the whole night moaning, even in his sleep. He was just so gassy, i gave him some more gripe water but it took longer to kick in this time. He just seemed to painful. :(

Sam will do that, too, where he is fussy for no apparent reason and then he spits up or poops or farts... (hehe can I say 'fart'?:haha:)... and then he's happy again.

My ergo came yesterday. My four year old likes to be carried on my back (he's only about 30 lbs). Sam didn't like it yesterday but today he's happy and in it right now. :) But I can see where the infant insert will be really hot in hot weather. So hopefully we won't need it much into the summer, and if we do... we'll be using the moby, I think.
So far, I like the ergo better for my shoulders, neck, and back, but I like the moby better for sitting and it's less bulky for getting things done around the house. I can't really see over the top of the ergo for like, making a sandwich or something.
(haha am I the only one who eats while wearing their baby... and gets crumbs on him? at least it's only pb&j, not hot soup or anything.)

I took Jonah out of his Moby last week and had to brush off the toast crumbs and orange juice dribble

Just got back. Jonah is 10 lbs 7 oz :happy dance: That's 1 lb 4 oz in two weeks! Yay boobies!

I'm so glad you mentioned this, I was meaning to ask about it. I have the Close baby sling and on warm days I'm concerned about how hot Josh gets in it (and it's only March!). Can anyone recommend a sling that's cooler for summer use?

thin ring sling, mine is an ellaroo and is thin plus just on layer of fabric covering baby, also dress baby in just a nappy and leg warmers or just nappy and socks

also yes to the food on baby:blush: have got all sorts on her, rice, cake, bread, tomato juice, peas!!!

I recommend the Baby K'Tan for baby wearing in the summer. They also have it in a mesh type breathable fabric :)

Congrats Vegta, that's awesome!

Boutique Bella Bambini makes awesome mesh ring slings for summer! She's only got a slight few in stock right now, but she said she'd be restocking soon - I am superbly looking forward to when they are released! I purchased a Gira wrap from her that she made into a sling for me and it's fabulous. SO freakin' gorgeous (better be, for what I paid for the damn thing...)!

I haven't been using the Ergo insert with Ari and she's just crossed into 11 pounds and has great head control, but not complete yet. I should say, I never purchased one. So by the warmer months, I'd think you'd be fine. :)

Chris just told me I need to get rid of some carrying devices - because I have 6. :| Little does he know, I'm going to a few consignment sales starting tomorrow and covering the next few weeks... plus my babywearing meeting... so the likelihood of buying another is pretty high. :X Nobody needs to know!

My sister has a Kelty over which I've been lusting... it would be SO fun for when we go hiking! Chris is skeptical... immensely so.

Sorry, I'm rambling. Obviously, I have an obsession...

Anyone have exciting plans for the weekend??

I think I messed up my supply. We had a week of DH giving Kenny a breastmilk bottle at midnight and I slept through it and did not pump. Then Kenny even started sleeping a couple longer stretches so I would go from 8pm-3:30am not feeding or pumping. I used to have an oversupply now I think I'm dwindling! Since I blockaded and only do one breast per feeding this meant that each side might go 10 hours without being nursed!

At first I woke up engorged but that stopped happening. Now I worry maybe I'm producing less milk and I don't want it to ruin my daytime supply too. :(

As much as I loved the extra sleep I'm going to go back to breastfeeding all the nighttime shifts. DH can help me by bringing him to me and changing him etc. and maybe DH can still help bottle feed by giving him a daytime bottle while I pump. I'm also going to add in an extra pumping session to try to re-up my supply. I hope I didn't ruin it forever :(

I'd venture to say you should be fine, switching back now. :) Since Ari has been sleeping longer too, I first just slept and was all 'whatever' and now have been pumping on the one side while feeding on the other, and have noticed a slight incline in my supply since I started that, plus I wake up less engorged and pained. So I bet you'll see the same when you fall back into that routine. :hugs:

I can totally see where the carriers can turn into an obsession... Even after the moby and the ergo, I still want a mei tai... I've heard people say they can fit different carriers into the diaper bag... frankly I can't see either the moby or the ergo fitting... would a mei tai fit better?
I'm interested in getting something more lightweight, too... though if Sam can go in the ergo without the insert by summer, we should be okay...

No plans for the weekend here. Still homebound. Stupid c-section. :(
Samuel has his four week dr's appt on Wednesday. And he'll be one month old on Thursday. I'm totally in disbelief.

Vicky is it a juggling act pulling at the same time as nursing or do you use a bra?

you should be fine, as soon as demand goes up with you nursing or pumping more often your body will respond and up production, xx

My sister made my mei tei and it's of courderoy so it doesn't fit into a compact place very easily and can be very warm. It's super secure, but quite... warm. LOL. I know I've seen places that make them of lighter, more breathable fabric so that might be the way to go?

Well, if it's the daytime and I think about it, I grab my sports bra with the holes in it :)rofl:) and use that to do the pump/feed. But in the middle of the night, my brain's never with it so I just set myself up and start pumping, while she's on my lap on the boppy. Then I attach her with my free hand (well, she really attaches herself lol as soon as I move my boob to her face) and go at it. It took a few tries to get the hang of it, but now we can do it without leaking too much. The only issue is when she detaches during letdown (doesn't always happen as she's gotten used to the forcefulness, but on occasion she will if she's choking) and trying to juggle that... but it hasn't been too horrific. LOL. Practice, practice. ;D

Very impressive! I'll have to try the simultaneous pumping and nursing! Right now im dking some power pumping... Pumping after feedings and also in between feedings.
