Giving up smoking SUPPORT!!

I quit the day I found out I was pregnant,I was like 3 weeks and 4 days.I havent picked up a cigarette since then.I am very lucky because for some reason I havent had any problems with it,plus knowing that I had a baby depending on me made it 100 times easier.I feel blessed to have had it so easy and I hope everyone else is as lucky!Habits are very hard to break!

that is EXACTLY when i stopped too. although it was a couple days ago but im glad you posted. im inspired by all you ladies. :)

It is going to be so hard to stop smoking, especially where I work. It's a stressful environment and the first thing I want to do on a break is light up. When I'm at home i can be fine with one a day, but at work i can go threw 1/2 a pack.
Now that my co-workers know I'm pregnant, they go after me when they see me smoking.

Me and my good friend decided after this pack is gone (half left) We are both going to be done. I don't remember it being this hard when I was pregnant with my son, but I think it had to do with the extreme morning sickness.

I'm still trying. I always thought I would stop straight away but I have found it so hard! I can go all day at work without one but my problems start when I get home :-( It's not the nicotine I'm struggling with its the habit. I have cut right down but am struggling with the final step. I too am hoping that once I see my little one next week that will be the drive I need to stop completely.... xxx

Gave up at 16 weeks, I wish it had been much earlier than that : ( don't let anyone judge you or put you off. No one's stupid here, we're all aware of what the risks are. But know your limits, don't stress about it. Stress makes it so much harder especially with pregnancy symptoms to worry about : /

For all of you that have quit too, well done, it's not easy, be proud of yourselves. For everyone that's quitting, keep on going!! It's all worth it : D xx

Aww good lucky bernie!
And well done Sunflower and all the
ladies who have quit! I hope we all manage to be as strong as you!

No ciggies for 13 days now! How exciting, that's nearly two weeks. Even cutting down is an achievement, I'm very proud of all you ladies! Cold turkey doesn't work for everyone, but after a few days with patches I managed it :D. You can do it! xxx

I quit the day before I got my BFP because I just knew that I was pregnant, though the tests weren't picking it up yet. I have quit several times in the past and have to say that this has been the easiest for me (the baby is my biggest incentive). The first day I was going a little insane, pacing back and forth through the living room and now I haven't had the slightest craving for one. I found that drinking water through a straw helped tremendously. Good luck to all you girls still trying to quit (you can do it!) and great job for those that have quit! :)

I'm a struggling quitter! I found out I was pregnant 3 days ago and have been fighting with myself ever since! The more I think about it, the harder it is to do :( And then of course I struggle with ways to do it....cold turkey, slowly cutting back, using the patch, etc. My husband doesn't want to quit so having another smoker in the house makes it that much harder. And the only one in my family that knows I'm pregnant right now is my sister so it's even harder when my family still invites me to all the smoke breaks....such a tough thing to deal with and people who have never been addicted just don't understand it the way we do :(

I completely understand what you're saying; that would kill me. I'm one of the only ones in my family that smoked so I'm able to avoid those types of situations. I've always been most successful quitting cold turkey, but that's only because with me it's either all or nothing (if I have them on me, I'll smoke them). Like I posted above, drinking water using a straw has helped tremendously for me. And previously when I quit, I would chew on a straw when I had an urge. I've heard ice chips help too. :hugs:

OOOhhhhh and ice chips are sooooo good! Especially from Sonic! MMMMMM! lol With my first son, I smoked all 9 months because all the women in family told me that they did it and their baby was fine, the doctors over exaggerate the effects, etc. But with my second we had gotten saved about a week before I found out I was pregnant and it was either quit or not go to church so the decision was kind of put in my husbands hands. This time it's all me and it is soooooo much harder! But I think I am more like you, if I have them I will smoke them lol. So probably cold turkey will be better for me too :) I might have to break down on here and cry and get some E-hugs lol :hugs: How long have you been quit?

I quit 12 days ago (I was exactly 4weeks), and that first day was the worst! Mine's more of the habit since anytime I was bored, right after eating, right after waking up and right before bed I would have one. If DH smoked, I would be having such a hard time with it too. How long have you smoked? I started smoking about 6 years ago and have been on and off throughout that time (one time I managed to quit for 1 year).

Good for you! Congrats on being able to quit, you're a tough cookie! lol I've been socially smoking about 9 years and habitually smoking about 7. I quit when I was pregnant with my second son, but when he was about 8 weeks old I was pressured into having a few drags and it just built back up from there. Doesn't take long to refuel an old addiction :( Luckily though, we had a couple unexpected charges on our account that has left us without cigarette money so maybe that was a helping hand from God :) I'm hoping to be cigarette free by tomorrow! I'm gonna have to make a trip to Sonic and buy a few bags of ice lol!

I have been smoking for 17 years!!! sounds so scary to say that out loud! I have been trying to cut down...but even finding that hard. I think i too am an all or nothing type of girl....so it will have to be nothing! This time next week i WILL be smokefree! That is my promise! And i want you ladies to make sure i dont break it!!

Too all of those trying to quit this terrible habit, well done for trying and for those who have quit very well done.

I know this is a very hard habit to break as I done it 9 years ago and even now it I not thinking could still have one.
If you would like some tips this is how I done it:
1, don't see a fag as your friend when stressed - it's your enemy
2, think of the things that annoy you bout smoking - smell, ash etc etc
3, set a realistic date for quitting ie: a months time, during this time think of what u hate about it.
4, day before your quit day chuck away anything fag related : lighters ashtrays etc
5, day you quit stock up on pear drops or anything u can suck on and when you fancy a fag suck on a sweet
6, MAJOR TIP: If anyone offers you a fag say 'I don't smoke rather than I quit'

I really hope this helps as it did me and good luck in your quest xx

You girls can do it! It's definitely not easy, but it is worth it. Think of the 4 D's (drink water, deep breaths - when you get a craving take a few deep breaths to relax, delay - give your craving 5 min to pass, do something else - during that time find something else to do).

Fantastic thread, I'm one of these occational smokers. Normally only after eating and when I'm out with friends etc.
For some reason since I've got my BFP I can stop craving them!!! My OH smokes and there has been a couple of times I've stolen a "drag" from him.

We had been TTCing sor such a long time, I was always on at him to quit but now I have no reason to moan at him! At least he is not doing it in front of me or in the house
