Going up and down the escalator with the pram

I'd have been tempted before but a week or so ago my nan tumbled down one when it jolted. Definitely wouldn't do it after that.

I remember there was a thread about this before where lots of people say they never do it and never would. I do it usually every day, and I don't see a problem with it, I know how to do it so there's no problem. Never get weird looks, I see loads of mums doing it.

Hubby's suggested it a few times when we're shopping. We both hold onto the stroller and the handrail. We don't make it a habit though and use the elevator 99% of the time.

To be honest if there isn't a lift in a shop then I don't bother trying to go upstairs.

If there are lifts and people avoid a lift and go on the escalator I just think its lazy

I agree leelee!

Was in Primark yesterday and i needed to go back downstairs. Had to wait for the lift to come up and down 3 times before getting on because lots of lazy fat people couldn't be arsed to go down the escalator. So god damn lazy. You don't even have to move on an escalator anyway! UGH.

I've never thought about it to be honest!

Never seen anyone do it either, I personally wouldn't!

I use to do it all the time with my son when I lived in glasgow because I am terrified of lifts! In some places this was the only way to get to the loo/changing/shop I had to get to.
Never been anywhere that I would need to choose between lift and escalators with LO yet. But I did carry her buggy up a flight of steps because the lift was broken and I couldnt just leave the buggy on its own.

It was the same in John Lewis yesterday. I had to wait for 2 loads of people before I could get the lift, but I just accept that things take a bit longer now. What is the major rush to get up and down the escalator for anyway?

I have used them on occasion if the lift is broke or I cant find one, scares the hell out of me but then they scare me even when im on my own :)
I think its one of those things that you know the risks, you know what your doing.
If we do have to use them though one of us stands in front and the other behind.
Somtimes its unavoidable especialy on the underground where there are no lifts and on massivly high escolators, havnt actualy had to deal with that yet but in that case I probably would get hubby to take the buggy while I carry him but you dont always have someone with you.

Its not always lazy, I have a phobia of lifts and 99% of store have their children section up or down staires.
Its one of those things that if you take procorsions and use common sense it can be done safely enough, im not thrilled about it im scared of both lifts and escalators so im pretty screwed either way.
yes accidents can happen but they can also happen walking down the street, most accidents are with people that dont use commen sense

I do it only if hubby is with me as he stands in front and me behind. This will sound bad but honestly, if the lifts were just for disabled and buggy users we wouldn't have to wait so long for one, places like Primark as someone mentioned, teens are in and out of the things all the time.

Also p's me off when ONE person with ONE buggy goes in and there's plenty of room, yet shut the bloody doors on you.

oooh no. i'd never do it. wouldn't want to risk it xx

I do it all the time, If there is a lift..I use it...If not, then I use the escalotors. I never get funny looks, well I don't notice if I do as I dont care what other people think.

Would never do it on my own but with OH, yes we have when there is no option. I feel it is fine to do with 2 people.

I don't let my wife do it (not being sexist) but I don't trust her wimpy arms to hold the pram.
I never see any signs but I never really look, going up I don't think there would be any problem, I am behind her and if the pram happen to just fall apart I would catch her, going down my wife is at the front and I am at the back holding it securely.

I think people just worry too much.

Never. My DH wanted to do it but I went crazy. He was too lazy to walk towards the elevator, so I carried Omar & he went up with the empty stroller. Would never take such risk.

We are not lazy, we are just being practical.
The wife always says use the lift, but if the escalators is like 10 meters away, why not use them.

It's different if you are afraid of lifts - that is an actual phobia. I mean people that won't walk to a lift in the shop because they can't be bothered, not because it frightens them.

Because it is more dangerous to use the escalator - hence the warning signs on some of them.

Are you seriously saying that you are too lazy to walk the extra distance to a lift???
