January 2020 Garnets

Sorry OnErth missed your update - i think im too tired to read it right! Did you want her to do things which she didn’t do, or were you happy she didn’t do them?

I didnt want her to do anything but look at me and say " you're pregnant". Haha. I was quite happy she did just that.

Glad your scan went well

Ah that’s good :) you are so relaxed about everything I need to share some of your vibe :)
Thank you!

Bumble bee - welcome here!

Interesting hearing about people’s children with autism and how they are affected differently.

Pukite - what a cute bump!

As for baby stuff, we don’t need anything unless we have a boy, in which case we will need clothes and maybe some more boy-ish looking sheets and receiving blankets, not that it really matters anyway. It’s always fun to pick up a few things for a new baby anyway, but glad we don’t have any large purchases to make. We already have an awesome double stroller!

Also, I discovered the other day that when I’m lying on my back, I can clearly see my uterus bulging out (and can feel it as well)! So interesting! So no wonder my stomach is bulging out a bit now. I find it interesting how early many of us are showing. The top of my uterus was half way up to my belly button, which seems high for this stage but I probably just forget.

Welcome bumblebee, so exciting! Lots of us due the same day.

I’ve been trying to take daily walks late in the day. I wait until it starts to get dark because it’s much cooler by then and also so my neighbors don’t see my big bloat. It’s worse in the evening for sure. Can’t wait for the bloat to ease up. Some days it’s not so bad but others it’s painful. I don’t take long walks but I hate that I lay around so much so even just 15-20 minutes helps

Ashley - that’s great you’ve been going for walks every day. I should go more often but I’ve been so sluggish. It definitely helps to get a bit of fresh air and exercise though. I hear you on the need to hide that huge bloat from the neighbours! Haha.

Opinions: for the gender private scan...
I get 4 pictures and only 15 minutes. Should I do 2d at $100 or 3d at $149?

Part of me doesnt care as long as they see the bits BUT wouldnt 3d make it easier to see them?

I try to go on a walk. Up my street and back is 1mile.

Welcome Bee...due the day after me :)

Red how many weeks was your scan? Must be so reassuring!

Erth you'll probably get cuter 3d pics but you pay for it so it's a hard one. They'll be able to tell the gender either way I'm sure.

Afm - my 12 week scan is on Monday....eek. Really can't wait for the reassurance as my symptoms are mild now. I move house on Friday so hopefully the time til the scan will fly by.

Still having tonnes of mucus...I really don't recall this from my first.

I’m feeling dumb right now. I just ate an Arby’s roast beef sandwich before realizing I shouldn’t be because of the risk of listeriosis. I guess because it’s served warm it didn’t cross my mind but I know they don’t heat it to a high enough temp. And now I’m stressing. It says it can take up to 30 days to get symptoms of you do get listeriosis so I will just have to worry over the next month now??

At all the pregnancy places I know of which offer 3d/4d scans and private gender scans etc, they all say that you cannot sex a baby in 3d. They always do the sexing in 2d and then go into 3d to look at the babys features. Xx

Ashley - I’m sure you’ll be fine, especially with it being heated up. Chances of listeriosis are very small, so don’t stress about it. I always have this same panic, but every pregnancy there’s at least something I eat that could give me listeria. It’s very difficult to remember to avoid all these things (and you don’t realize how much cold cuts and the like are everywhere until you can’t have them)! Just don’t stress. :)

Also - looks like the symptoms are fairly extremely with fever, headaches, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and can even progress to a stiff neck. So it’s not like you’ll miss it if you do get it. But I’m sure you won’t!

Hi all :hi: Just came across this group and was hoping I could be added to it please, due with our long-awaited (just over 4 years!) baby #2 on 27.1.2020. have my 12 week scan next week on my birthday, the 18th so praying for good news [-o< x

That's updated for you now - and January 27 is officially the busiest day of the month :)

I recently read a book about this, and the conclusion with food restrictions was that the most dire risk is listeria, BUT it's impossible to know what food item will have the next outbreak. It could be roast beef slices, but it could also be celery. Also, the risk is low.

So - it's almost impossible to prevent getting it if you're just going to be that unlucky, because it could be in anything, but most likely, you will not come into contact with it at all.

JD - very true!

Speaking of freak-outs though, yesterday I randomly lost a filling and now I’ll have to go get it fixed but I realized I’ve never had a filling done during pregnancy before and according to the internet it’s recommended to wait until the second trimester. Why did this have to happen now? I certainly don’t want it to get infected in the mean time, but I will at least wait until my dr’s appointment next week and ask what she thinks. I definitely feel very nervous about it, especially since freezing does cross the placenta. :( Why did this have to happen?

Well crap. You just made me remember the deli sandwich I ate yesterday before I took my kids to dance class. Oops... but it can't be any worse than the time a couple weeks ago when I took the wrong cold medicine - you know, the one that can actually decrease blood flow to the fetus and cause poor development and growth disorders. Awesome. :) But my DR said I should be fine, so... at least there's that? *shrug*

I'm sure if it was a one-time thing, you have nothing to worry about. Not gonna lie though, you totally just made me crave some Arby's. :)

Ive never listened to that advice. Not that I'm changing litter boxes and chomping on sushi but I dont change the way I do things.

I think its wise to take into account and be aware it's a risk.

After looking at some studies last night it seems the risk is really low. Something like 18 pregnant women out of 100,000 contract listeria. Not sure how many pregnant women follow the no soft cheeses, no cold cuts etc religiously but the risk seems low either way. I’ve always stayed away from them during pregnancy. Or I would at least heat up lunch meat before eating. I remember with my second pregnancy turning down a deli sandwich or something at my moms and she looked at me like I was crazy when I brought up why. She said with all of her pregnancies she craved and ate so many lunch meat sandwiches and we are all fine so it was nonsense haha. But knowing how I am with with over worrying I will continue to stay away. I did read lunch meat was one that seems to be the least common to cause it and it’s actually produce outbreaks that cause more. I will probably still go get Arbys roast beef but heat it up until steaming from now on. It was so good with the Arby’s sauce!

Literati- aren’t there non silver fillings that are less toxic?

Ashley - I don’t think my dentist does silver fillings, but The freezing they use does cross the placenta. I should hope the actual filling part isn’t toxic. I’ll have to ask about that as well. :/ more panic!

That’s good you’re not as worried about the listeria. Good idea to heat it until steaming next time. I also just heat my cold cuts if I have them during pregnancy. Does the trick! People do seem to think you’re crazy if you follow all the food rules. It’s surprising how many people don’t give any regard to them at all. My thought is that you just can’t be too careful.

Fit Mama - congrats on the boy! And great about being low risk for everything!
