Private Recovery Rooms?

I have never had to share a room with another person. But, lots of people do share rooms, this depends on the hospital. We do have connected bathrooms with showers in most hospitals here that I have been at. That is annoying because some woman just do not have manners and leave the toilet seat in gross condition. I too just had a baby and do not want to clean up after you! HORRIBLE.

I know! It takes no effort at all to look behind you before you leave the toilet.

I really hadnt thought much about toilet etiquette. Thats really gross.... Do they have no shame?

I'm pretty sure ours is free. Idk, I got this off the website:

"Childbirth
The private Labor, Delivery and Recovery Suites at Inland Valley and Rancho Springs are fully equipped with advanced technology comfortably arranged to provide a pleasant environment for delivering your baby."

I could be wrong about them being free but I'm pretty certain they are.

LOL I know, quite lazy on their part.

I guess no shame, it has happened more than once with me in separate hospitals! yuck! I always am spraying the hiv killing agent on the toilet with great caution before I touch it. Now, this time I am just going to call the nurse if it is nasty... I am tired of it.

At my local hospital its £20 per night but the specialist mental health midwife said I can have one and have my partner stay with me cus of the disabilities I have.

I can't believe its as much as £90 in some places!

i went to a private room at the top of the hospital and i hated it....there were only two midwife up there and i was the only person up there for 3days (and the fire alarm went off at 3 am) in the end my bf ended up staying with me lol....i think it just depends on how long they are goin to keep you to where they will put you in the hosp i went to...but the oxford womens centre gets sooo busy they are trying to get rid of ppl two hours after the birth shocking i kno...!!!!

I wonder how much it costs to go private to have your baby in this country? Dont thin many of us do because the NHS is "just there"

*Off she scoots to investigate*

£3800 down here - believe me, I looked into it!

I'm prepared to pay for a private room as long as it's not more than about £80 per night. I'm REALLY not thrilled about the idea of sharing a room/toilet/washing facilities with lots of other women. Call me a snob, but some women are just nasty.
Are you planning on having the baby in Mayday?

I got put in the birthing suite there because my contractions were coming every 2 mins or more and I was 8cm dilated yet they couldn't give me a room. They assured me id have a room when I arrived, but didn't.. and some stupid midwife was moaning about how people going into labour had caused their xmas party to be cancelled and they wouldn't have a room for me - I was so pissed off, had visions of giving birth in the corridoor! lol. To apologise we got the nice private rooms.. I had my own bedroom, Sonny could stay with me and we had an en suite bathroom - it was more like a hotel room. - Thats free by the way, but you have to book it asap.
Think you could get a private room for about £50-£80 a night (can't remember exactly).
I didn't consider it much beforehand, but next time I give birth I definitely want a private room again and would personally pay £50-£90 for the night - it's only a one off!

Oooh, thanks for that info, yes we are going to Mayday. Ideally I want to go to the birth center, but if there's no room there, I'm happy to pay for a private one if its available.

Wards are free here, and semi-private is only partially covered by OHIP, if you have insurance then it'll cover the other half.

You have to pay for a private room, if you don't have insurance than it's $50 or so a day. Not too bad, but if you're in the hospital for awhile (C Section) then it can get pricey. It's also first come, first serve.

:)

Once baby is born, we have to transfer to the maternity unit (only 1km away) and can stay there in a twin share room for up to 3 nights fully subsidized. If you want a private room, you can have one for $280 per night (about 100pounds) for up to 3 nights, it is partly subsidized. If you want to stay any longer than 3 nights, you pay $480 per night (173 pounds.) We are going for a twin share room because it's just too expensive to warrant getting a private room (although I really would LOVE one!) They say that unless they are really busy, you may end up having the twin share room to yourself anyway... *fingers crossed*

Not sure I want to reply to this thread.... But PP wanted to know how things differ around the world :hugs:

Because I am delivering in a hospital that only has private rooms I am not charged as my provincial health care pays for it. We have pretty big rooms and our OH's are provided a cot to sleep on while we are there in labor. They can use the provate bathroom as well.

Please don't hate me... I am just participating.

I am so sorry to hear how expensive it is for all you mommy's....come here to deliver!!! I will let you stay with me!!! :hugs:

You are going to the St. Albert one???? I would have done mine there had I known that my doctor had privliges...

 Yep!! My OBGYN is in St. Albert so I have no choice.....thankfully!

My friend's baby was born with major problems and was tranferred immediately to ICU. (When i say major she is now 4 months and still in hospital) Mum was made to stay in the ward with other new mums and babies. And hubby wasn't allowed with her or baby because it wasn't visiting hours. Nice.
She discharged herself out and was home less than 24 hours after her emergency section because of that insensitivity.

To be honest if there isn't a side room available (which is usually on the normal maternity ward anyway) there isn't a choice. I know it's hard when everyone else seems to have their babies but the midwives can only be in so many places at once and need to be able to keep an eye on you all the time.

I had two premature babies who were in special care and I had to go on the maternity ward with everyone else but luckily was moved into a side room after a short while. It was hard hearing other babies crying etc especially when mine didn't survive:cry: but I did understand that this was the only choice for safe post-natal care.
