Quirky /old-fashioned songs to sing to LO - suggestions please!

Abby sings ALL the time. And sings pretty much everything. Her favourites are "Abby Babby bee" "Row your boat" and "twinkle twinkle" There are so many more too.

Five little monkeys
Five little ducks
Five little spacemen
Five little speckled frogs......seems to be a theme there!

One finger one thumb.
Head shoulders knees and toes
Wind the bobbin up

And Baby TV do some great versions of songs, Animal Fair is a good one, the hokey cokey sung by a polar bear and looby loo is great too.

I could go on for hours!!

wind the bobbin up and miss polly had a dolly
Abby loves Miss Polly, was always my favourite too.
no you canny shove your Granny of a bus
no you canny shove your Granny of a bus
no you canny shove your Granny, coz she's your mammies Mammy
no you canny shove your Granny of a bus!
Ahh, but did you know you CAN shove yer granny off the bus if she's yer daddy's mammy? I was shocked to hear that verse!

Well, may I just say a big well done to everyone for giving me a good laugh today :happydance: I have lots of new ammo for tomorrow. Your suggestions are great, the longer the better as the days do drag sometimes :haha:

Will be thinking of you all tomorrow crooning away

I had visions of you then spending the day singing with your lo thinking, oh gawd, shes off again!! :haha:

I know, poor love! Sometimes if he's really lucky he gets to spend the day with nanny and gets all the real old rubbish :haha: Don't even get me started on the rhymes (1, 2, 3, mother caught a flea... over the garden wall, I let my baby fall... Mrs White had a fright in the middle of the night... to name but a few).

I just remembered another old classic: my baby has gone down the plughole! (anyone?)

On the baby's knuckle, on the baby's knee,
where will the baby's dimple be?
Babies cheek, or babies chin
seems to me it would be a sin
if it's always covered by a safety pin!
where will the dimple be?!!!

Ooh, I've never heard that one! Does it have a tune?

I love singing old music hall songs to my little man! :happydance:

The sun has got his hat on
Hip hip hip hooray!
The sun has got his hat on
and he's coming out to play!

Others are:

Daisy, Daisy
My Old Man
Henry the 8th
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
She was a sweet little dicky bird
Joshua (but I change the name for my LO)
2 Little Girls in Blue

Can't think of any others at the moment but I have tons more! I blame the baby brain :haha:

popping in from teen parenting hope yous don't mind

we sing "gonna build a house" gets quite a few smiles :haha: xxxx

Some great ideas! I forgot about Joshua! That's a lovely song. I think I will have to google music hall songs as they are quite a rich store! I think it will be really good for improving his vocabulary as well #clutchingatstraws

What? Absolutely not! Get back in your corner :winkwink::haha::haha:

I'm fairly certain being a teen mum doesn't exclude you from posting in baby club!!

I don't know that song, how does it go?

I LOVE THIS THREAD!

I am so crap with singing songs. We only ever do Wheels on the Bus, Old Mcdonald, Twinkle Twinkle and You are my sunshine if I'm feeling particularly exciting!

its from the tweenies it goes
we're gonna build a house
with a chimmery tall
we're gonna build a roof
and a garden wall
two small windows
we can peep inside
one front door
you can open wide
gonna build a house

that gets sung over and over in my house :)

It does, but it's hard to describe. It was one of my grans songs, goodness knows where she got them from!

I LOVE this thread.

I plan on teaching my LO all of the above as well as all the songs from musicals. And the great works of Freddie Mercury.

I found it! It's got more verses than I knew - it's quite cute!

How much is that Doggie in the window (woof woof)
We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo
Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor

Oooey gooey was a worm
A mighty worm was he
He sat upon the railway tracks
The train he did not see
Oooey gooey

All fantastic suggestions!! My LO has had a lovely day today being sung to :haha:

I am a guide leader so my babs is having lots of campfire songs!

my favorite is barges and its nice and relaxing. this makes her go to sleep

We sing nelly the elephant, 2 little speckled frogs and old macdonald. If she's upset this always does the trick. Although the animals that ate on old macdonalds farm are amazing, we had a dinosaur according to OH ! :haha:

Has anyone found some of the nursery rhymes quite disturbing!?

- 3 blind mice
- sing a song of sixpence
- goosey goosey gander

Another I don't think has been mentioned ' the farmers in his den'

Xx

Thanks hun, I remember that one from my own guiding days, bought back some memories! We sing the baby bumblebee song and the littlest worm too, haven't tried those with Fi yet!

Another one I thought of yesterday was "THere's a hole in my bucket". I tried singing it and nearly lost the will to live!

And she'll be coming round the mountain was another one I remembered. Oh and What shall we do with the drunken sailor / stinky Stanley!
