MsE, thanks for the explanation.... I guess I feel a little protective over some of the ladies on here as I have been involved in their respective journeys
Yeah, sorry I posted that last post about what happened to me was on my phone and a bit jumbled.
Anyway, to make things short:
I have PCOS (confirmed by a hormone imbalance on blood tests before TTC and during TTC).
I came off Dianette (which I later found was one of the WORST pills to try to TTC after due to it's action of suppressing hormones and effectively switching off the body) at the beginning of December 2013 and for four months nothing happened.
I literally went from "oh, we are just going to see what happens" to obsessively checking my CM, CP and OPK sometimes more than three or four times per day. I literally was praying for something to happen, ANYTHING!
On a side note (this is important), I was about 13lbs heavier than I was before I was on the pill, when I had "regular" periods (but was charting so not 100% I was ovulating).
I tried Agnus Castus (vitex), I went on Metformin at a biiiig dose, I tried Rasperry Leaf Tea, I tried Inositol (sorry that might not be spelled right). I considered going back on a different contraceptive pill to kick start my body but couldn't face that, given how desperate I was for my BFP.
Anyway, someone suggested I try the GI diet. Basically, the theory is (I won't go into it too much as it's extensive but can if you need me too), I wasn't ovulating because of my hormone imbalance (confirmed by blood tests). Basically, I had a constantly high level of LH in my body (as confirmed by constant weak lines on OPK's, therefore preventing the correct "Surging action". The theory of the GI diet is that it reduces the LH in your body, allowing the surge to happen.
Anyway, I went on the GI diet. It wasn't easy, in fact, it was HELL, but not even two weeks after I had started (and subsequently lost around 8lbs - this may or may not be relevant), I had a blazing OPK and I assumed I was due to ovulate. However, I did not have a temp rise for 2 days. I was so disappointed I went to the dr and demanded a course of progesterone to bring on AF, which she prescribed me. Funnily enough, as soon as I started taking it, I got a temp rise, which I assumed was related to the progesterone.
Fast forward 10 days or so, and I got the funny feeling I should test before stopping the progesterone cold turkey. BAM - pregnant. Never have I been so shocked in my life!
Anyway, after all of that (wasn't so short after all, sorry!) the point is, I 100% believe that the GI caused the ovulation and I was lucky enough to catch it.
