Stopping BCP to TTC***Updates & Progress/Noted Changes Since Stopping BCP***24BFPs***

Hi all, just came across this thread and its great for the newbies. Let me share my situation here might help someone.

I am a hypothyroid for the last 12 yrs leading to irregular cycles pre-bcp, mild-PCOS detected in 2009. I have since been on bcp on/off, but for the last 2.5yrs have been using it regularly as told by my ob/gyn to help conceive in future.

Have been in talks with my ob/gyn and she suggested anytime I decided to TTC...I will have a 2 month window (1st 2 cycles) to naturally ttc once I go off the BCP. The 1st 2 cycles off bcp are supposed to be most fertile for someone like me as the body will still be used to working the way it would while on bcp (regular cycles-thus O correctly) and might help me......as there are really high chances I may get back to being irregular again.

I have just gone off the pill and lets hope it works for me and anyone else in the same boat(FXed)!

bblues9- BCP Gildess Fe 1/20 (generic for Loestrine Fe 24); 1st cycle TTC; 22nd Mar last day of BCP; CD1 25th Mar.

Ah, it removed them this morning.

Off to the doctor today and not leaving until I get some answers (and a prescription for progesterone to bring on af!) . A 4 month cycle is long enough!

Well I went to the doctor this morning, and kicked some butt! GP's seem so reluctant to do things for you with regards to someone who is proactive about their own condition.

She finally (after some persuasion) agreed to refer me to a PCOS specialist at the hospital, although there may be a little wait. She has also given me a progesterone prescription, which I need to take for 10 days, and hopefully that will induce AF.

We talked about my lack of ovulation, I said I thought it may be my 12lb weight gain in the last 8 months of being on the pill. She said that is was unlikely to be that as it was such as small amount and I don't look "overweight" as such, despite having a little extra around my abdomen (common in PCOS).

She said what is more likely is that I am suffering from something called "Post pill amenorrhea (sp)".... basically the birth control switched my ovaries off, and they are having trouble turning back on....

Perhaps having an AF will kick start something, so watch this space!

wtbam- oh my gosh! I am so happy to see your post! Way to take charge of your body and get something from your doc. I so hope this is the ticket for you :)

Welcome bblues!

Wtbam - nice job trying to get some answers! I hope AF does kick start those ovaries back into gear!

Bblues - welcome! Your story is really interesting, best of luck TTC in the next two cycles. Considering how critical the next few months will be, are you temping/using OPKs? I didn't use OPKs for my first cycle and really wish I would have.

So I am 17 DPOs and BFN. I think FF screwed up my O day. If I remove the EWM on CD14, the O date switches to CD22. Which makes me only 7DPO now (baaaah, the TWW starts over! :coffee: ...and we did not BD accordingly...thought I had already O'd!).

What do you guys think? I don't understand why I would have sticky/dry CM around ovulation but have had wetter CM earlier in my cycle. Makes me nervous that my CM isn't ideal but maybe my CM is taking awhile to catch up post BCP? This is why I wish I could have used OPKs, I thought I could rely on my CM, but apparently not.

My Ovulation Chart

Hey I just got back from the Dr. too. I just needed a pap and to make sure I'm healthy.

I will be going back if I don't O within 3 months. BUT i kind of think i did yesterday! I wasn't that accurate at take OPKs but they did get darker and my CM was more watery/EW and I had cramps. Now today my OPK has barely a line, I'm all dried up again and no cramps and I've broken out. I read that could be from the estrogen drop and progesterone rise because progesterone makes your skin have tighter pores and more sebum. So we will see!!! We didn't BD which is good in my case. FX'd that I am in the TWW for AF! Then off to TTC!!! :)

Anyone know how successful the blood work tests are to see if I am ovulating? Im going to the dr to get started on progesterone to start my period but then I'm wanting the dr to test to see if I am for sure ovulating.

Thanks for your help! you ladies are the best:)

Prachipie - I am considering OPKs...haven't bought one yet though...will be heading out to buy one sometime today :D. We were initially considering TTC in June or later but decided otherwise in the last 1 week after consulting the doc, so wasn't quite prepared with anything actually....except that we are BD everyday. Hoping it will go positive.

Jean jean the 21 day test is accurate if you havr it 7 days after ovulation. A progesterone level of over 20 will show ovulation :)

Dang Wtbam, I wonder if you did ov? Progesterone shouldn't bring on af till you stop taking it but maybe it's why your temp went up now :) wonder what effect it would have if you did ov!

patience, I don't think I did Ov, I think the temp rise is from progesterone I started yesterday! I took 15mg - I can't find any information of how that translates to the mmol in your blood.

I had repeat bloods this morning (after bloods 4 weeks ago showing increased LH and testosterone). I managed to press gang the nurse into testing my Estradiol levels too (to see if I am dominant?). Should get those results in the next few days. I'm not holding my breath but hoping to see a difference, perhaps a reduction in LH and Testosterone, due to the GI diet?

Let's wait and see. It was exciting to see a temp rise even if I did know why it had happened lol! I have to take the progesterone for 10 days, then hopefully AF will start when I finish it!

Hey Guys! I think I may have ovulated on CD 19, as I had had cramping from the time I stopped the pill to then. I wasn't too sure about how to distinguish CM and stuff but I tried my best. I noticed my CM was 'different' on Cd 18 and 19. It stretched more and I felt more 'wet' down there. I also had a much darker OPK but it didn't look positive. I'm wondering if I missed the positive, because they just started getting lighter and lighter the next few days.

Now, I have no cramping, increased appetite, I'm breaking out, and I have a temp rise. These all seem to be signs of an increase of progesterone...

I'm excited to see if AF comes!

Well a temp rise is a MASSIVE good sign! x

Wnt2be, sounds very promising!! CM is difficult when you first start until it starts changing and you can compare what it was before. Don't normally wish for AF, but I'm sure you want to know if your cycle will be regular, and if I remember correctly, you were like me and not really expecting anything this first cycle since you were slightly into your pack.

I would do anything for an AF right now, hehe

It's coming soon hopefully Wtbam! How many days do you have left?

Also, just a reminder, anyone that wants to be added to the front page, please give me your info in the format from the first post for your current ttc/bcp status :)

Gutted. A good friend of mine came off the pill one month ago.... she's just told me she's pregnant, no charting, no diet, no timing bd'ing :(

Im so happy for her but so bitter all at the same time!
