sure start maternity grant UPDATE

i now feel really unsettled coz if babys decides to come early i will have nothing, oh well juts got hope everything goes to plan and we sorted it by then :(

I think you are entitled if LO comes early  Not certain though. It does suck! I'd love to know where this random date of 11th April has come from  xx

Yes if you are due after the 11th but baby comes before the 11th you can apply after the birth

If baby comes before 11th you can reapply charliemarina.

Mrsbandegglet i wonder about the date too. It seems unfair that some of us knew we'd be entitled so worked out our expenditure relying on that, only for it to be pulled from our feet

i sent off for my grant last week for me to recieve a letter yesterday saying i wasnt entitled because i had a child under 16 but was told by job centre that i would be able to get it because of being able to claim 11 weeks before the 11th of april!!! really was depending on it to get my baby bits so no how u are all feeling!

im so confused coz people are saying if your 29 weeks before 11th april you can the grant and other are saying if ur baby is due after 11th april u cant, what is true?

Jobcentres have (wrongly) been telling people you need to be 29 weeks before 11th. This is old information they had andits totally wrong. Ive been on other forums where girls swear blind they are going to be entitled because they have been told this wrong info, and they have been declined in the end.

Anyone who applies for a second(or more) child will be declined if baby is due after the 11th. Thats the official rule and can be found on direct.gov website

i have a daughter under 16 but i didnt claim cause i didnt no about claiming for it will this make any difference:shrug:

Afraid not hun, that wont make a difference, whether you got it in previous pregnancies or not doesnt change the rules.

I know, its not fair! I didnt get it last time but certainly needed it more!

thanks u for the that, and it makes me laugh on how the government get us into debt and now are children are the ones who are paying for it

I sent off for ours last week, waiting to hear back. Not sure if we'll even be entitled but worth sending off anyway

I got mine and im entitled due to high tax credits with LO and our due dates are close so if you meet the critera you'll defo get it xxxx

^ Im hoping I get it due to higher tax credits rate but I can't find out how much the higher rate is!

Sent my form off today and hopefully it will go through!

Came across this thread and thought I would share.....

I trawled the benefit offices with my sister yesterday after her relationship broke down long and short of it is .... her ex-fella had been claiming all in sundry for them although my sister works 15hrs a week. So we had a job on trying to work out exactly what he had been claiming and cancelling all claims as she has moved back to my parents with her 1yr old DD (she is also currently 16wks pregnant!) We also got info on what she can claim herself. We spoke with a really nice lady esp considering my sister is pregnant we wanted to find out what help if any she is likely to get and she confirmed once my Sister hits 29wks she will be able to claim the SSMG even though she has a 1yr old DD (she didnt get SSMG for her as she was then in full time work). I pointed out the facts you Ladies have stated on this thread as I had already previously looked into for her and told her I didnt think under the new rules she would qualify but the lady at jobcentre was adamant that even though she has a 1yr old DD and her EDD is 5th August she will get the full 500.00. She said that they had had so many enquiries about this and had had it confirmed from `high` management that the changes are not going to take effect despite the stories circulating. She was a lone-parent advisor so specialises in this area. She gave my sister the form to get sorted once she is 29wks.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm very confuddled to say the least!

The plot thickens with this!!!

It just seems to have come out of nowhere and its a silly date - I would have thought they would have announced this with a deadline date but nothing has been mentioned about it....gonna have to make a call this week and find out what my job centre is saying!!!

Oh and had to laugh when I was looking this up that it states If your a registered asylum seeker you will get 300 quid towards to your new baby despite having other kids, its not the SS Grant but the fact that they get 300 quid and we get nothing, kinda sickens me...not racist in the slightest but its not very fair that the goverment is looking after AS and not their own hmmmph

^^ OMG I didnt know that about AS lisabee....not racist here either BUT this totally isnt fair and I dont even qualify for SSMG anyway just sympathise with the crap situation :(

Infact I feel a bit peeved tbh....I work 28hrs a week have done since DS was 4.5mths old (looking down the nose at redundancy as I sit here right now my fate at work is been decided as work management have met this eve!) BUT I still wouldnt qualify however not great to think my taxes are paying towards AS 300.00 for having a baby (No rules applied!) whilst you ladies dont qualify and should  Oh and I missed out on HIP too by 1 day :dohh::

Those who did get it can I ask how long was it before you heard.

So how come people are getting rejection letters saying their due dates are too late? This whole thing is confusing me

I 100% agree. The AS thing disgusts me. the world is nuts.

the job centres were issued with information from somewhere a while back (I wish I had copied this info when I read it) and it was never updated. And that's why they are throwing out wrong info.

End of the line is, all the applications go to the HMRC in the end and they will decline it, no matter what job centre tells you , the details on the direct.gov website are totally correct and the girls on here have had letters backing it too.

Its scandalous - the worse thing ever is allowing that bloody tory goverment in... what makes them think the entire countrys deficit is gonna be cleaned out by cutting benefits such as this is beyond me...hope they enjoy it while it lasts as they wont be allowed back in again!!!!

And I missed out HIP by a week - so I am getting nothing - I am currently taking my employer to a tribunal so I am not gtting any mat pay either ATM altho gonna try and get mat allowance but am sure like evrything else it will be turned down!!!!!! I give up!!!
