Erica - I had an 8 week scan to determine a heartbeat and number of babies. I paid for a private gender scan at 16 weeks (they wouldn't let you book earlier than 16 weeks). They say before a girls parts can be so swollen they may appear to be male, which is why they suggest after the 15th week. I've heard 3d are more reliable, but I wouldn't count on any guesses at 13 weeks, nature of their bodies.
I know I want my mom and husband in the birthing room. I think I'll have my dad in the corner to take pictures (there's one behind the bed that's mostly blocked so he can stare at the corner through the icky parts and be the one to take the new pictures of baby (since I'm sure my mom and husband will be too emotional and focused on baby and me to be thinking about pictures). BUT he's not for sure welcome yet (and I really don't think he wants to be there anyways ). Husband's parents are 2 states away and I haven't seen them in 4 years (dad doesn't travel well anymore - heart issues) so I'm not sure they'll meet our baby in person anytime soon. He has two sisters close (there are 5 living sisters and 2 brothers in various states) one in the same city the other 2.5 hours away. The one that's close will probably show up when invited, the other one will see us next time she's in the area (we see her a few times a year). My mom seems to think that EVERYONE's going to rush right over (I don't think so), but she's going to take time off to help DH and I adjust and she said she's going to be a bouncer, see Chelsea, meet the baby, get the hell out. Husband will have the same attitude, so I'm not too worried.
Katherine - I'm sorry people turn up uninvited! At least it hasn't turned out too poorly yet, but I would be annoyed if a bunch of people started inviting themselves over (especially since you were at the hospital for such a short time! At my hospital it's 2 days for vaginal, 5 days for c-section). Can't believe you have your boy on the outside!!!
